Casino Hits Labor Savings Jackpot with Preventative Maintenance Management | Case Studi... - 0 views

  •
Silver Reef Casino in Ferndale, Washington implemented a web based program called Bigfoot computerized maintenance system (CMMS) to solve the challenges such as the lack of a system for managing, tracking and analyzing repairs over time. Now, the casino has a preventive maintenance program in place so they can notice for everything from the glass washers at the bar, dishwashers in the kitchen, to the rolling press ironers because they are all in the PM scheduler. Also, the CMMS provides valuable information after repairs are made to equipment or other system. Another advantage of a CMMS system is that the managers can easily find information, such as the model and serial number of a piece of equipment, without having to sort through spreadsheets or repair manuals. Therefore, the maintenance team can quickly address customer complaints, and maintain the customer experience. Bigfoot PMs for industrial equipment prevent costly repairs and disruption of guest service.

Tips for Cashing in on Geofencing | Top Stories | | Hospitality Magazine (HT) - 0 views

  •          When a loyal customer arrives in a new city, send a notification offering early check-in and room upgrade
  • ·         After the customer makes a selection, he/she is directed to the hotel shuttle. ·         Once checked in, a notification is sent about happy hour in the lobby offering a free drink. ·         When guests head out for a meal, the app can be accessed to find recommended restaurants. ·         Set up the app with an “offer wallet” that will have discounts and coupons for area attractions. ·         At check-out, a notification is sent asking the guest to fill out a quick survey.
  •
With the mobile marketing technology, hospitality companies focus on finding innovative ways to personalize communication with customers, and the one of solutions is LOCATION. Geofences, or virtual perimeters placed around physical locations, unlock the knowledge to consumers' physical whereabouts. Upon geofence entry or exit, hotels can send promotional, informational push notifications to app-holding customers. By offering personalized, contextually sensitive content, brands will increase buyer motivation and encourage customer loyalty.

POS Hackers Sentenced for Multi-Million Dollar Payment Card Data Theft | News | Hospita... - 0 views

  • “The Subway case is a clear indication that privileged and administrative accounts are increasingly targeted and used by criminals to steal sensitive information,”
  • “In this case, the attackers were able to simply do an Internet search for remote desktop applications that were used by the restaurants, and through simple password cracking techniques, they were able to gain administrative access to the systems.  This enabled them to easily steal sensitive financial information from unsuspecting customers.”
  •
According to the article, two Romanian nationals have plead guilty for participating in an international, multimillion-dollar scheme to remotely hack into and steal payment card data from hundreds of U.S. merchants' computers, including a great number of Subway restaurants. The reality is that anyone with an Internet connection can search for, identify and target remote applications that businesses rely on. This case is a warning to operators utilizing POS systems to shore up their security by taking steps to make their accounts more difficult to breach and therefore less attractive hackers.

Property Management Predictions | Top Stories | | Hospitality Magazine (HT) - 0 views

  • “Expectations and technology change. Today the critical point we are focusing on with our PMS is overall improvements to the guest experience. The whole concept of understanding your guest and understanding their preferences and behaviors to enhance the experience goes along with a hotel’s ability to market to the guest in a better way.”
  • “Going interactive with the guest experience is going to have an impact in the sense that every guest can be a user on your PMS,”
  • “This will include functionalities such as: updating profiles, tracking rewards, making requests from the room, and interacting with other guests.
  •
This article introduces the next generation PMS systems: 1. Mobility is about taking customer transaction and activity away from a counter or a tethered device. 2. PMS will be integrated with social site's information and capabilities because online/social branding and interaction will be a requirement to compete. For example, PMS will enable hotels to stay on top of ratings and respond guest comments on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, TripAdvisor, Yelp and more. 3. Integrated data- PMS systems will have to adapt to allow the guest to specify their preferences and requirements while the PMS tracks spending patterns to match guests' preferences and choices.   4. PMS providers are focusing more on creating products that can transcend to the global market place by adding mapping tools that display locations of goods, inventories, assets, and supply chain networks as well as currency and time conversion. 5. PMS providers will focus on expanding and improving their cloud-based technology by increasing security, reducing of costs of system adoption, and interoperability with all hotel departments. 6. Personalizing the PMS- There isn't one size fits all. With all of the functions that modern property management systems are expected to perform, further customization is always a desire for hotels.

Hotel room monitoring reduces energy by 40% | News | Refrigeration and Air Conditioning - 0 views

  • Hotels can save 40 per cent of energy consumption if they re-evaluate the time that rooms are occupied, according to ebm-papst
  • According to the Carbon Trust the hospitality sector is responsible for over 3.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions per year, and it is estimated that energy savings of up to 20 per cent, equivalent to more than £200 million, are possible across the sector.
  • “A retrofit upgrade from AC to EC fan technology in HVAC equipment can pay dividends for the hospitality sector.  Results include energy savings of up to 66 per cent, with additional savings being made possible by utilising the EC fans built in control functionality, enabling fans to work at a very low level while rooms are not occupied. In addition there is also a reduction in noise level
  •
This article suggests EC fans technology as one of ways to save energy in hotel rooms. The room temperature can be set and EC fans can modulate gently, instead of the occupant having to blast the room with warm then cold air. EC fans are not only less noisy, but they provide better room conditions for guests too. And I'm sure that there are more various systems available for green hotels besides EC fan. Technology is being a huge help to save energy cost. Therefore, I think that adopting a proper technology will be a crucial decision when the hotels are going green.

The new system allows the director of revenue management more time for analyzing trends and making more strategic revenue decisions because the revenue management process is simplified and expedited, providing market information quickly and easily. Although the system doesn't replace human insight, its complex algorithms and ability to pull data multiple times a day provides Coastal Hotel Group with a clear vision of hotel data, making it easier to book the right guest at the right time for the right rate. In addition, the IDeaS RMS automatically uploads rate shopping reports from vendors and uses competitors' data to create the best available rate decisions. That can be a strong competitive edge of the Coastal Hotel Group properties.

Taking Network Security to the Cloud - 1 views

  • The biggest threat to network security at the hotel property level isn’t a lack of technology – it is the lack of resources to manage it.  A strong network security solution should combine cloud-based security configuration with plug and play installation of a firewall and IPS appliances.
  • The impact of a mass security approach is significant to hotel network operations. It could eliminate the need for on-site IT resources to configure and deploy security appliances. It could also provide much-needed network visibility across an entire portfolio of properties. Lastly, it would be instrumental in expediting large-scale security deployments and updates.
  •
Today's travelers expect a strong network security. The challenge is that many hotels lack the IT resources because of budget. As a result, IT functions are limited to making sure security patches are up to date and services are running rather than proactively identifying security threats and preventing. This article introduces cloud-based security system as a solution. With the network security system, IT headquarters can monitor and manage the entire network. Also, hotels can save the cost for on-site IT resources and security appliances. It was interesting that cloud-based security is a solution for network security when there are many opinions that cloud computing is not safe.

Digital Signage Gives Burger Joint a Boost | Case Studies | | Hospitality Magazine (HT) - 0 views

  • Affordable and customizable communication
  • “We are able to share with our customers more products that we have every day because those are the most important products for us,” co-owner Zach Steffens says.
  • Quick solution for quick serve restaurant
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • “We can show more items. With the daily specials, instead of changing out those plastic letters, we can just upload it and it runs. If we want to change it midday, it’s really easy to do, which is important because we want the majority of our employees’ focus to be on customer service.”
  •
The owners of a Culver's franchise decided to install a digital signage to provide more menu information quickly because the menu board couldn't communicate enough with customers for a short time to select menu in the fast food restaurant. The challenge was how the small business owners and franchisee would handle their budget for the investment and added cost.  The problem was solved by selecting EzSign TV from LG Electronics which displays branded messaging and shows broadcast television or input content at the same time. Furthermore, the software offers a choice of more than 50 templates that can be customized with images and text. Therefore, the business can highlight the items with pictures and deliver their daily specials more efficiently.  Installation is easy, and daily specials menus can be replaced by simply clicking. The digital signage looks cleaner than old fashioned menu board, and saves more time to change menus. By implementing a system that requires limited attention from staff, Culver's can focus on customer service and deliver value. That was a good decision adopting a new technology fits in the quick service restaurants.
