For many concepts, the tablet menu would certainly enhance that element but I am not sure that this technology would do anything other than distract from the intended atmosphere.

In traditional times menus were in the form of paper however, in today's day we are moving towards a technology based society. The core features of the tablet menu for a restaurant are noted as customization, visualization and engagement. A tablet menu allows for a restaurant to ditch the paper. This provides a change and the ability for your restaurant to stand out against the competition. It is however important to note, tablets should not replace the traditional server or waitress. As noted in our previous discussion topics I think technology should be used as an enhancement not a full replacement. As with anything there are both negatives and positives. I believe this is only useful in a fine dining establishment while reading the wine menu as it can be updated frequently. For other restaurant segments such as a casual restaurant, this can be appealing. While technology can always be beneficial, some establishments are better off with traditional approaches to dining.

    The digital menu seems having a lot of benefits for the restaurants. This menu is practical during the COVID-19 pandemic, when in person interactions are forced to be kept at minimal. However, I would expect more in person interactions at an upscale restaurant because I am paying more.

    I found this article incredibly interesting, as it is an interview with the co-founder of eMenu, Alexandru. He speaks about how he thought up the idea of eMenu, when he was at a restaurant trying to pay the bill, but after five minutes of trying to call the server and being ignored, he got annoyed; and believed there was a way to fix this. Additionally, he makes great points about why the eMenu is so efficient, such as it being technology based, it is very popular amongst Millennials. He also makes the great point of it being on a tech system, it allows restaurants to have the menu in several language options more conveniently. As well as, it being flexible enough to make changes, such as newly added plates, without needing to reprint several new menus. He then goes on to say, he now looks forward to bringing this technology into the hotel industry, where room service menus can now be available from the TV, rather than in a "small wasted paper menu." All in all, I believe Alexandru makes some very valid points as to why the eMenu should be considered in many aspects of the hospitality industry.
