ITG Networks provides multi-product technology solution at the new Residence Inn by Marriott on Pittsburgh's North Shore. Wexford, PA April 15, 2010 - Kratsa Properties awarded ITG Networks a multiple product contract to install and support Kratsa's technology solution for the new Residence Inn by Marriott, a 148,500 square foot, extended stay hotel offers luxury suites on Pittsburgh's North Shore, within walking distance to Heinz Field, PNC Park and a variety of bars and restaurants. Adjacent to PNC Park's home plate entrance, on the corner of West General Robinson Street and Mazeroski Way, this 10-story hotel will provide an array of the latest digital amenities. When the hotel opened its doors on April 5th guests had mobility with a business-class, wireless, high-speed Internet access (HSIA) solution throughout the property. This solution provides secure, plug n' play access. Wireless is available throughout 180 suite-style rooms and all common areas. Wired Ethernet is also available in all guest rooms. Each desk is equipped with a convenient pull-through desk hub and 10' Ethernet cable. For added convenience, the hotel lobby offers a large social laptop table with twelve built-in Ethernet and power outlets. With a complete understanding of the Marriott requirements ITG was able to engineer the overall network to use common networking gear for both Voice and Data. Kratsa Properties now has a system that will both cost less to operate and offer the features and functionality the company requires to meet its customer service goals. Summary: This company provides mobility internet throughout a property, and in this case is the Residence Inn Marriott with 180 suites. ITG Network works hand in hand with different companies to integrate the property management system. Nevertheless, ITG is a full service management development company whom helps with the maintenance of the hospitality industry properties

Marriott Bringing Beacons To 500 Hotels By The End Of 2016 | - 0 views

  •
This article spoke about how Marriott had given proximity marketing an initial try in 2014, and how it was so successful, they decided to bring it to an extra 500 of their hotels in 2016. They originally started with this technology to see who they targeted most effectively. Once they saw how successful it became in driving sales, they started to improve their offerings, by adding promotions tailored to locations, from local food to spa services. Overall, Marriott believes its no longer about how loyal a consumer is to a brand, but how loyal a brand is to their consumers.

Google takes its next step in online travel planning - 1 views

  • Google has finished putting all the major pieces of its one-stop travel shopping together. The company calls the offering Google Travel, and it has the system in place for consumers to try out
  • Google Travel is, of course, very much a work in progress. But that’s the Google way — test, learn, iterate, solve big consumer problems, expand it around the world, and then monetize the heck out of it,” Schaal said
  •
Google is indeed joining the online travel business, this will allow the largest search engine to become one of the largest travel intermediaries. Why is this important? Google has been experimenting and working with the world largest hotel company. The data they exchanged with Marriott has moved Google Travel along so much. This one stop shop is something Marriott is also experimenting with.

This article was a great choice! It will be interesting to see how it plays out. If Marriott did share their data with Google, as the previous reply indicated, most likely it will be successful. Marriott has a strong, vast database of client information. Google Travel will have plenty of information to have a strong, running start.
  •
Great article. When I heard about this next big step that Google is making I was intrigued because I travel about 2-3 times a year and my go to site to book flights is Google flights. I always found that it was simpler to use Google Flights than to use Expedia or Orbit. Although Expedia and Orbit offered the hotels and flights in one page, I always deemed them to be too busy and more complicate to navigate. Looking at Google Travel, Google have kept it clean, direct and simpler and no pop up ads than what we are used to from the other OTA sites. It is interesting to know how relations with Google and Expedia will be after this. Although as the article states, Expedia CEO Mark Okerstrom saw this coming and he states "we have to be watchful about what they are doing" because Google have obtained a tremendous amount of data collected from marketing that Expedia does through Google.
  •
True, Marriott is transitioning into a one stop shop and google has started but they haven't gotten on part with the other platforms as of yet. But it won't be long before they integrate and take over especially with all the information they have.

10 trends in hotel technology - 1 views

  • Hotel guests travel with an increasing number of personal devices and their own information and entertainment content. A SmartBrief poll showed that 45% of hotel guests travel with two devices and 40% with three or more.
  • “We noticed travelers were packing books less and less. They’re cumbersome and take up valuable luggage space, but it’s really hard to replace the joy of reading a great book on the road,” Nelson said. “It’s also important for families that forgot to pack their tablets because games (and other contents) are big hits with bored kids.”
  • The Hyatt Union Square New York offers three check-in options for guests: an iPad check-in with a staff member called Gallery Host, a self-serve check-in kiosk and a traditional front desk. About 40% of guests at the hotel select the iPad option.

  • According to a poll taken by the SmartBrief online service, 85% of travelers believe Wi-Fi in hotels should be free.
  • When the planners are in the hotel, they can request more coffee, more flipcharts, a change in temperature in the room, or whatever they need. We’re facilitating the conversation in the way planners and customers really want to talk to us.”
  • Another example from the participants was the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Behind the hotel’s front desk is a huge video wall, and one of the applications is a live tool that allows guests in line, or anyone in the lobby, to send Twitter messages about the hotel or other topics. Also, the hotel’s food-and-beverage outlets use to the board to promote specials or events.
  • Marriott offers free Wi-Fi in its select-service and extended-stay hotels and in lobbies of its full-service properties. In addition, gold and platinum level members of the chain’s loyalty program receive it for free, Roe said.
  • Courtyard’s GoBoard lobby information center has become a way to eliminate the frustration of guests standing in line to ask a simple question, such as directions or a restaurant recommendation.
  • Marriott last week launched its Travel Brilliantly marketing campaign, which Roe said will help the company “define the future of technology.”
  • The white paper noted a variety of ways hoteliers increase their luxury offerings through technology—everything from high-definition TVs embedded in bathroom mirrors to curated set lists of music downloads as offered by Hard Rock Hotels.
  • Marriott’s new Workspace on Demand service allows non-hotel guests, such as small businesses and entrepreneurs, to book meeting space at Marriott properties on half-day or full-day basis. Larger groups can book meeting space that includes audio-visual equipment and Wi-Fi.
  •
This posts summarized 10 trends in the hospitality technology. Most of them are benefiting the guests directly, such as the wifi access and the self check-in services. However, as more and more hotel in the industry adopting these technology, the competition has been brought on, and every company is working harder to invest more technology in hotel management, development as well as operation. These 10 trends are the most basic ones which have changed the industry greatly, but there are mot to expect in the near future.

  •
China is going to be selling a lot fewer alarm clocks to Marriott as travelers rely more and more on their mobile devices. Since this article was published in July 2021, Marriott has since made it official that alarm clocks are no longer required in guest rooms. The mobile phone has made the alarm clock requirement obsolete. The majority of travelers view this as a positive change as travelers complain about the cleanliness of the alarm clock, being awakened by the previous guest's set alarm that hotel staff does not cancel, needing space on the nightstand for their own mobile devices, and the glare of backlit numerals interfering with their sleep at night. Owners appreciate the cost savings, yet their hotels may experience an influx of wake-up call requests in the absence of the alarm clock; however, most phone systems allow guests to set their own wake-up call through the telephone without operator assistance.

They were: Marriott International CEO J.W. "Bill" Marriott Jr.; InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) CEO Richard Solomons; Carlson CEO Hubert Joly; Choice Hotels CEO Steve Joyce; and Eric Danziger, CEO Wyndham Hotel Group. The discussion ranged from hotel Internet fees to iPad apps, new lobbies and chainwide hotel renovations. The hour-long event was moderated by USA TODAY's Barbara De Lollis . The text has been edited for clarity and length.

Thought this was a great article from the perspective of five of the top industry executives. Of particular note was about the issues of catering to the newer wireless data hungry traveler. Interesting to see all of their comments and concerns. Seems like this is an issue that is across the board and there is no consensus at the point about how to tackle.

Luxury Hotel Transforms Guest Experience Through Technology - Cisco - 0 views

  • The hotels’ target market consists of highly accomplished, technology-savvy guests who expect the world’s best business tools, room amenities, and business services.
  • They envisioned using advanced video, collaboration, and networking technologies to create a unique and exciting experience throughout the property, delighting leisure travelers and providing world-class collaboration capabilities for business travelers.
  • The venture would require exquisitely coordinated interactions between high-bandwidth wired and wireless networks, multiple business video and collaboration applications, and endpoints such as video displays and IP phones.
  •
The JW Marriott Marquis Miami and Hotel Beaux Arts Miami are three Marriott hotel brands that have been combined as the setting to create a revolutionized guest experience experience with the use of technology throughout the property. Not just technology here and there, but rather technology as the primary provider of the experience. This is evidenced by the conference room amenities: Virtual Meetings by Marriott, mobile video concierge, world's largest video powered by Cisco, digital signage, and wireless IP phones for guest use (which allow guest to order room service, check the weather, special offers, etc.). The goal and vision of the property is to allow guests to experience the advantages of technology to interact with other guets, co-workers, and hotel employees, in hopes that they will enjoy new ways to communicate, as well as have more fun. The hotel has already experienced several benefits and other favourable results: a one-of-a-kind experience for guests, effective marketing of hotel services, operational efficiency from working with one vendor, and increased guest safety thanks to 70 surveillance cameras deployed throughout public areas of the property and monitored by Cisco, who will notify hotel personnel immediately of any emergencies.

How Hotels Can Spring Clean Their Information Security Policies Ahead of the Summer Tra... - 8 views

  • Shockingly, nearly a third of hotels (32%) admitted they currently have no known policy for storing and disposing of documents
  •
Memorial Day weekend will soon be upon everyone and with summer officially kicks off. This article talks about how hotels can clean up and do better to protect their guest personal information. A few years ago, all major corporation were required to adopt General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regulations which helped some hospitality companies. In my current capacity with Marriott International as a Workforce Administrator we were required to schedule all customer facing associates for training on GDPR. Prior to Marriott acquiring Starwood hotel company they had their own data hacking which caused an increased expense for Marriott to let customer know they were doing all they can to stop the data breach and protect their personal information. They also created a dedicated call center for this effort to let guest know that they will continue to put protecting their personal information as a high priority. This article outlines how hotels can prepare for increased guest traffic and protect their guest personal identical information. One of my responsibilities as a Workforce admin is to handle staffing for all of Marriott International Customer Engagement Centers. Employee training on GDPR is required every year for Marriott associates. Training employees on how to better protect guest personal information is more cost effective than dealing with a data breach due to negligence of an absent-minded employee. Guest expect to know their personal information is going to be protected. This allows them to have piece of mind. Leaving a clear and clean area allows for guest to feel that their information is being protected. Imagine walking up to the front desk and finding the previous guest personal information cluttered in view. This will make the current feel their personal information will left unattended and viewable to the guest to walk up causing nothing but anxiety attacks. Unable to enjoy their summer vacation. Guest expect that the overall security of the hotel

32% of companies not having a known policy is startling considering that 77% of Americans find it to be important to them. Yet another IT issue the states finds itself behind the curve on.
  •
Another point as for the "clean desk" policy goes, it also needs to include stricter policies on securing credit card information. It should not be written down or repeated on the telephone. In an open environment sound can carry and unwanted parties can hear. Cell phones should be stored away from the desk, because cell phones are in itself a potential security breach.
  •
Our hotel as well has reinforced the clean desk policy. I remembered the data breach for Marriott it was in most major news channel and at work for several months we had the same questions from our guest requesting more information. As you stated a hotline was created and of of course the most surprising for me was the acceptance from our guest. Main responses were, with the new technology advance world we've coming and going into that is something we all have to face.
