Data Security and Your Next Hotel Stay: How the FTC Encourages Strong Security Practices - 0 views

  •
Summer's just around the corner, so imagine you're setting off on vacation. When you give your name and credit card to a hotel front desk clerk, you probably expect them to keep that sensitive information about you under lock and key. You probably don't imagine that this personal information would be easily available to malicious hackers.
  •
But unfortunately for customers of the Wyndham Hotel chain and its affiliates, that hasn't always been the case. Between 2008 and 2010, the risk of data breaches was unacceptably high. On three separate occasions, third parties attackers circumvented Wyndham's security systems and accessed credit card information. The FTC filed a complaint against Wyndham in 2012 alleging that the company's security practices - including failing to encrypt payment data and the use of default logins and passwords - constituted unfair and deceptive practices under the FTC Act. It is precisely for this reason that we have consistently argued for a flexible approach in understanding the unfairness and deceptive regulation prongs of the FTC Act; a cramped interpretation of the authorizing statute would preclude the agency from protecting consumers in our current era of computerized and network technologies absent further Congressional grants of authority, which could take years.

  •
Mobile point-of-sale systems are set to become the most revolutionary of breakthroughs in the transfer of currency since the invention of the cash register. We can experience Mobile POS very often in shops like Nordstrom, Apple. It is a very convenient way to free customers from long waiting line in front of the cashier counter. In shops like Apple , you can just simply grab any sale assistant and ask them to do the check out for you on their POS iPhone. Despite its many benefits, mobile processing will not supplant traditional POS overnight. One hurdle that must be overcome in the public conscience involves security. Many people don't trust people swiping their credit cards on iPhone and without any printed receipt. However, once mobile POS does become commonplace, it will be a boon for businesses of every size

- Hotels Going the Green Way with Technology - 1 views

  •
There are of course numerous ways a hotel property can go green. Depending on need and budget, one can choose from a range of options and technologies. There are tons of technologies right now designed for hotels to save energy. But, since energy-efficient equipment may be costlier both in terms of installation and capital costs; the hospitality industry is acknowledging the long term benefits to be reaped in terms of reduced maintenance and energy saving, especially when energy costs are escalating. With technology constantly improving and becoming cost effective, initiatives that seemed too expensive just a short while earlier are now within reach of most hotels. Going green using techonologies can be easy for big hotels , but for smaller scale hotels, the installation and maintence costs too much. But we believe that with the fast development of technology , go green will be acceptable for every hotel.

GDS hotel bookings rebounding - 0 views

  •
Accompanying global growth in reservations, rates paid by corporate travelers increased by +2.1% over prior year. More and more people and angency are booking over GDC in the past 2 years. As people all think that , if the GDC messages can be reached by travel agency, then it also can be reached by individuals. However, leisure bookings, which are those made predominantly through online channels, including mobile, only delivered a slight rate increase of +1.8% over 2012 in January . Which means , even GDC is accessible for leisure travelers, they won't move to GDC entirely in a short time. For GDC business people, the real question was which hotels positioned rates to reap the most profit from those bookings that came through a diverse range of channels.

Taking Network Security to the Cloud - 1 views

  •
While many hotels right now are keeping and tracking down their valued customers' information, lots of those hotels are facing security problems also. Customers expect ironclad security that protects their entire "online" experience in the hotel, from online booking and iPad-enabled check-in to the wireless connectivity in their rooms. In today's cyber threat environment, that makes the hospitality industry a desirable and lucrative target for attacks. This article mainly talked about how to strength hotel network security. It suggested that a strong network security solution should combine cloud-based security configuration with plug and play installation of a firewall and IPS appliances. Which can be described as Taking Network Security to the Cloud. The IPS device will automatically contact and authenticate to the installation cloud, retrieve its configuration, and then reboot into the hotel's network ready to protect.

Rezbook Review: New Opentable Competitor | Gourmet Marketing - 0 views

  •
The most famous restaurant reservation software -- Opentable, now has a competitor. Rezbook is the cornerstone of Urbanspoon's online reservation system, from which all the parts come together. The already spectacular iPad, with its wireless internet capability, is the main platform that a restaurant manages reservations from Urbanspoon with. While the software techonology in hotel industry developping very fast , in restaurant industry, the upgrade seems to be quite slow. Opentable covers1/3 restaurant reservation business in United States, but 15000 restaurants believed that they have no more choice. Even though OpenTable pulls the strings in online reservation,Urbanspoon, a relative light weight in online reservation, has created a system both refreshing innovative and beautifully simple. Rezbook maintains efficiency and ease of use while maintaining all the requisite features. It's a step forward. To make an analogy: Urbanspoon especially RezBook, the anchor of their reservation system, takes Apple's ethos of simplicity, functionality and style that have catapulted iPhone, iPad, and iMac to being the industry standard. Not coincidentally, Rezbook works off the iPad. This new system smells the trend of Apple products being used everywhere. The perfect combination will sure attract more attention. At the same time, Rezbook's join will sure help to improve the development of restaurant software.
