How This Influenced My Thinking:It's amazing to know that with each experience a baby encounters, it only aids in brain development. It gives several examples on how to make your child grateful for everything and in the process it also helps children to be more social and overcome shyness. How this influenced my thinking: This article was very helpful. I was aware of all of the examples but it definitely made me put in action the examples whenever I have a toddler, because I definitely want them to be well educated and respectful. How this influenced my thinking: I am very interested in brain development and learning. I am excited about researching learning and brain development in the womb. Credibility of source: very credible news station and research is cited.

Title: Dealing with others Author: Rick Green Date: 2010 Why relevant and summary: It is a funny short article that deals with how to answer questions and misconceptions about ADHD and keep your cool. It is aimed to people who have the diagnosis and struggle to explain their behavior and challenges to others. How has this influenced my thinking: I really found it very interesting the advice given, and i think these rules can be applied to anything people have misconceptions about. Why credible: This article was written for the ADHD.org website.

Date Published:Jan 6, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: It gives a nice overview of what exactly ADHD (and also ADD) is, what symptoms there are and how to work with it. it also gives interesting facts about how long it may have been around, and how many people are diagnosed with it. How this Influenced my Thinking; This just gave me a few extra bits of information about ADHD and its history, i am already familiar with it, as i have a younger brother who was diagnosed with it. Credibility of Source: The authors have degrees, and it is on a credible website about many varying aspects of psychology.

How it Influenced my Thinking: I was really surprised by the number of children in america that have ADHD. It says on average one student in each classroom will have it. Credibility of Source: Seems like a very credible source.

How This Influenced My Thinking: The up-to-date research regarding the history, treatments, and causes of ADHD of this site have been illuminating and helpful. Credibility of Source: 7- Sources are cited at the bottom of articles, from credible sources.

Title: Nature, Nurture and Attention Deficit Author: ALIYAH BARUCHIN Date Published: 3/12/08 Why Relevant and Summary: I was curious about whether nature or nurture is responsible for ADHD. This article was an interview with Susan Smalley, Ph.D., is a professor in the department of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and director of its Mindful Awareness Research Center. How this influenced my thinking: I was fascinated to find out about some of the environmental factors that show increased lecels of ADHD. Credibility: I'm on the fence. The doctor seems credible, but I am not sure about the writer.

There are four main parenting styles that are out there and each child was parented by at least one of them. How this influenced my thinking: It made me realize that there are more parenting styles out there than what how my parents parented me. It makes me happy that my parents parented me the way they did because i do not like the other type of parenting styles. How This Influenced My Thinking: This mademe aware of the different styles and how it could effect children, so it made me know which parenting style I would like to take on. Credibility of Source: This is credible due to the citations and that it comes from an original source document.

Focusing on weight creates weight prejudice. this is relevant because people who are obese are more likely to be bullied about their weight (even if they are living healthy). How this Changed my Thinking: There are different ways to view fighting obesity, and focusing on lifestyle is healthier for self-esteem. Title: Author: Yamini Durani Date Published: October, 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: Explains reasons for cosleeping, how it is safe, addresses SIDS, how to safely cosleep, and how to help your child make the transition from cosleeping to sleeping on its own. How This Influenced My Thinking: I was never aware of cosleeping, at least to the extent with which it can occur. I was educated on the risks of cosleeping, which I never knew were possible. I was also introduced to SIDs. Credibility of Source: Source written by a doctor.

Title: Effects of Divorce on Children Author: Lesley Foulkes-Jamison Date Published: 2001 Why Relevant and Summary:This article focused on children and their behaviors and reactions after divorce. It also gave some good insight on what parents could do to make their child feel less confused about the divorce. How This Influenced My Thinking: I learned about statistics of how likely children are to behave in negative ways after divorce and also gave me good advice on how to help your child cope. Credibility of Source: Lesley is a psychologist and has a Ph.D and all of her information seemed to be very accurate.

How This Influenced My Thinking: Opened my eyes up to the many challenges present in this type of situation - when a couple is not happy together nor getting along but still need to work really hard to keep a good enough relationship to support their children.
