Title: Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development Author: Kendra Cherry Date Published:n.d. Why Relevant and Summary:This article gave information on Kohlberg's theory of moral development. All three levels were mentioned and all six stages were discussed. Preconventional reasoning consists of stages one and two. Stage one is based on obedience and punishment.Children should obey the rules in order to avoid consequences of their actions. Stage two is based on individualism and exchange. The example given is of children arguing on which course of action is best, when it really only matters which one is best for you. Conventional reasoning consists of stages three and four and is based on conforming to someone else's needs of a role. Stage three is when a person lives up to social expectations of what people have of them. Conforming to what they see you as. Stage four is maintaining social order, society is viewed as one when making judgements such as maintaining the law and order. Postconventional consists of stages five and six and is based on independent judgements. Stage five is social and individual rights and stage six is our universal principles. 7-Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory - 2 views

  •
Title: Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Systems Theory Author: Dede Paquette and John Ryan Date Published: 2001 Why Relevant and Summary: Explains Bronfenbrenner's theory and connects it to modern child development and compares this to child development when the economy was more industrial, less technological. It also explains Bronfenbrenner's concerns with our technological world. The 5th page looks at the human body as a part of a person's microsystem, which was fascinating, especially since the textbook doesn't seem to consider this. How This Influenced My Thinking: Introduced the idea of the human body as being part of the microsystem - new to me! Also, I learned that this model can play a big role in influencing public policies, which is refreshing because as a student, it's easy to get caught up in this thinking that the classroom stuff isn't relevant or doesn't easily apply to the real world… but it can! Credibility of Source: Pretty good - the work cites a lot of educational resources, and I read the company profile, which seems to be run by qualified people.

Title: Helping kids cope with seperation and divorce Author: Jocelyn Block Date Published: Nov 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This article is a parents guide to supporting children during divorce. It describes the needs and expectations needed for healthy coping through divorce. Children need reassurance, stability, patience, and love even more during a divorce. Keeping these important staples intact will help the child deal with divorce. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have always thought that no matter what the parents do the children involved in divorces will feel the repercussions and that there is nothing that parents can do to fix it. This false belief that I have had is untrue-many children that are provided stable, secure, and loving homes after divorce learn to cope and turn out to be just fine. But it is all dependent on the parents methods of making the divorce less traumatic for the child. Credibility of Source: Its credible- the authors are doctors.

  •
Title: Psychosocial Development in Middle Adulthood Authors: Diane E. Papalia Sally Wendkos Olds Ruth Duskin Feldman Date Published: 2004 Why relevant and summary: This is just a really great outline from a McGraw Hill Human Development Textbook. It is a free, online student resource. It touches on all aspects of life in middle adulthood, and provided a good reference point when interviewing my friend's 57 year old mother for the survey. When we are in our 20s and 30s, reaching middle adulthood seems far off, but the truth is, time passes by quickly and aging is inevitable. 7 - Peaceful Coparenting after Divorce - Children's Best Interest - 0 views

Title: Co-Parenting After Divorce - Sixteen Arguments in Support of Co-Parenting Author: Edward Kruk, Ph.D. Date published: April 16, 2012 Why relevant and summary: In the absence of violence, abuse, etc., the best thing for children in the midst of divorce is to have time with both parents. Shared parenting or Co-Parenting encourages children to maintain meaningful relationships with both parents after a divorce. Although in practice, this can be difficult and the reality is that in many divorces, kids will live primarily with one parent, the point is to set aside our anger and conflicts with the ex spouse and really put the children's needs first. How this influenced my thinking: I recently went through a divorce, and my ex spouse lives on the opposite coast. Co-parenting is quite tricky, but the bottom line is that we both agree that the kids need their father in the picture as much as possible. We have agreed to never, ever use the children as a weapon against each other. We always consult each other in terms of the children's needs, education, etc. Although the kids live 100% of the time with me, I encourage daily contact with their father via Skype/FaceTime, and when they are a bit older, they will be able to travel and spend some school vacations with their dad. Credibility: Psychology Today blog is credible.
