Title: High functioning autism in adults, a personal perspective Author: Steve Date Published: 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: A high-functioning autistic man gives his perspective on living with autism. This is relevant because it touches upon theory of mind (subtly) and connects it with autism. How This Influenced My Thinking: This video was powerful to me because Steve was able to express his perspective on the world even though he says he does not understand other people's perspectives… I really liked the way he described it. Now I know there are close to 10 possible causes for it. Credibility of Source: WebMd.....you can decide ;)

Author: N/A Date Published: Revised in 2012 Why Relevant and Summary? This website explains obesity in the United States. It compares the obesity percentage of today's children with those of twenty years ago. It also gives a brief summary of how to deal with children who have obesity, and even includes a meal plan. How this influenced my thinking: This site influenced my thinking in the fact that I always thought that putting an obese child on a diet was the best solution, but this site mentions that one must not completely change their diets because they do need foods from different groups because they need it to grow. Credibility: This website seems credible since its from the government.

Title: Obese Children Twice as Likely to Die Before 55 Author:COURTNEY HUTCHISON and MICHELLE SCHLIEF Date Published: Feb. 11, 2010 Summary/Why Relevant: This article discusses a recent study done on children whom were obese. The stud found that over weight children were put at more risk for more health complications therefore more likely to die before the age of 55. How it influenced my thinking: This article made me more aware of the risk factors that children face when over weight. Credibility: Very. The authors provide citations for the research study as well as other resources.

Why Relevant and Summary: I thought this article was pertinent to friendships in middle childhood, and in particular, it seemed useful in terms of dealing with negative social interactions. How This Influenced My Thinking: It identified a significant factor that explains why some kids succeed. That factor is resilience. Credibility of Source: High

Title: Children & Divorce Author: GSYMC Date Published: 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: It helps to understand the behavior of children at different stages depending on when divorce takes place. How this influenced my thinking:It helped me to understand what I was going through when my parents got divorced. Also helps me to understand what other children might go through and how to be a supportive friend or family member. Credibility: This site seems to be credible.

Title: The Sex Atlas Author: Erwin Haeberle Date Published: 1983 Why Relevant and Summary: Still relevant, even though its old because puberty hans't changed. It talks all about primary and secondary characteristics of puberty as well as the cognitive side of it. How This Influenced My Thinking: It opened my eyes to more of the cognitive side of it because the physical side is kind of obvious to me! Credibility of Source: Seems legit! It's a published book...

Title: Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Author: Encyclopedia of Mental Disorders Why Relevant and Summary: This article is relevant to testing intelligence because the Wechsler Intelligence Scale is a method of measurement for testing intelligence in children. This scale offers subtests that measures intelligence by verbal and nonverbal performance. How This Influenced My Thinking: I was able to better understand the different subtests that makes up the Wechsler Intelligence scale. Credibility of Source: Found on the Encyclopedia for Mental Disorders.

Title: Formal Operational Stage Author: Saul McLeod Date Published: 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: This article discusses Piaget's concept of formal operational stage, which is the stage when adolescents gain the ability to think in an abstract manner around the age 11+. This article also provides definitions and examples for key terms like inferential reasoning, concrete operational stage, pendulum task. How This Influenced My Thinking: I was able to gasp the concept for pendulum task better than from reading the textbook. Credibility of Source: not sure how credible but found on simply psychology.

How This Influenced My Thinking: It made me realize popularity is actually a huge thing with fourth graders Credibility of Source: No way to tell but it seems like a very credible source!

Title: Should gay marriage be legal Author: Procon.org Date Published: 4/12/2013 Why Relevant and Summary: Gives a rather unbiased argument to both sides of gay marriage. Very useful information, background and other wise. How This Influenced My Thinking: Didn't, but it was very interesting to read some of the background information . Credibility of Source: Credible, based on common sense as well as references from history.

Title: Kantian Ethics Author: none Date Published: n.d. Why Relevant and Summary: Relevant to Kolhberg's final sixth stage of moral reasoning: Universal Ethical Principals. Kant believed that moral reasoning is not based on the idea that humans are a means to an end, but that were an end in ourselves. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have studied Kant in Philosophy classes in the past, and enjoyed having the chance here to cross previous learning into what I am learning now. It also helped me to understand Kohlberg's sixth stage more thoroughly. Credibility of Source: Great - Wikipedia is credible

Title: Understanding Childhood Obesity Author: Len Saunders Date Published: October 23, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This article reflects upon many of the socio-cultural factors which have aided in our childhood obesity epidemic. How This Influenced My Thinking: I showed me how our problem of obesity cannot be limited to diet and exercise, but is the perfect storm of sendentary/obesity-promoting occurances within our culture. Credibility of Source: 6 - He has served on many board with education & influence in childhood obesity.

Author: Amy Desai Date Published: 2006-2007 Why Relevant and Summary: This article give the viewpoint from a Christian worldview, in which options other than divorce are evaluated. It warns of the long-lasting effects an emotional judgment may not take the time to contemplate. How This Influenced My Thinking: This whole Focus on the Family site has great resources and ideas for those in marital distress. Credibility of Source: 6- Expert in the field but not clear citing of resources.
