How This Influenced My Thinking: Listening to real people tell their story on being twins and a part of a study of how nature vs. nurture has impacted them individually has contributed greatly to my understanding.

Title: The Latest Science of Nature Versus Nurture Author: Stefan Molyneux Date Published: May 25, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This video is breaks down all factors from genetics to environmental influences that contribute to human development. The video shows the importance of prenatal care to environmental effects on individuals after they have been born. How This Influenced My Thinking: Reviewing this video has really made me think on which plays a bigger role on a person's development. I have come to the conclusion that genetics play the leading role but not by much. The human fetal stage is very fragile and will induce any stress that it has encountered, from emotional stress, to chemical through the actions of the mother. Credibility of Source: Stefan Molyneux who is a radio broadcaster, is really a collector of information rather than a scholarly researcher, who merely reposts other's findings from educated researchers.

Title: Genes vs. Environment Author: University of Edinburgh Date Published: May 16, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This article provides information on over 800 sets of experiments that were done to prove how genes played a more important role in development than the environment. How This Influenced My Thinking: This made me want to conduct my own research or do my own study on twins who were separated at birth to see how identical their characteristics were after five or ten years of being apart. That would help me see for myself if genetics really do have a greater inpact than environment does on development. Credibility of Source: This source is credible because the information was derived from universities, journals, and other research organizations and they have references to all the information they used.

How it Influenced My Thinking: there are certain times during development that "nurture" could have an influence on the likelihood of being involved in crime, and some are genetically pre-disposed to be more violent. overall, it is a complex subject, but i believe both play a role in development. Credibility of Source: based on research conducted by university professors, including criminologist J.C. Barnes, Ph.D.

Title:Babies Listen and Learn While in the Womb Author:Denise Mann Date Published:Jan. 3, 2013 Why Relevant and Summary:It discusses learning in the womb. Babies begin to absorb language within the womb in the last 10 weeks of pregnancy. In a study, infants only hours old sucked on a pascifier more often when they heard vowels sounds in their native language than when hearing vowel sound in a foreign language. The mother's body amplifies her voice so the baby cannot hear dad's voice. How This Influenced My Thinking:I never knew that a newborn could differentiate between a mother's voice. Why Relevant and Summary: Total overview of breastfeeding, some benefits and concerns of mothers as well as some problems one may encounter How This Influenced My Thinking: This opened my eyes to some problems that may occur during breastfeeding and also more developmental benefits. Credibility of Source: I have found WebMD is pretty credible

Title: Breastfeeding Benefits Your Baby's Immune System Author: N/A Date Published:1/12/12 Why Relevant and Summary: This article is relevant because it stresses the pros to breast feeding. It especially highlights its capabilities to stop disease and build up the immune system. How This Influenced My Thinking: This helped me more scientifically understand why breast milk helps build up our immune systems with the antibodies, white blood cells, etc. Credibility of Source: healthy children's website seems reliable.

Title:Childbirth Options: What's the Best? Author: Brenda Conway Date Published: N.D. Why Relevant and Summary: This is a great article explaining the many different birthing options. It also gives pros and cons of each. How this influenced my thinking: I didn't realize there were so many options available with a hospital birth. Credibility of Source: The article was from Web M.D. so i think it is very credible.

Title: The Cultural Art of Breastfeeding Author: Cynthia Good Mojab, MS Date Published: October-November 2000 Why Relevant and Summary: While this article is from a pro-breastfeeding site, there is a ton of info about the culture of breastfeeding. It covers both biological and cultural aspects. How This Influenced My Thinking: I never thought about how the lack of breastfeeding in the family would influence a new mom. Credibility of Source: The La Leche League is the Pro-Breastfeeding place to go. I find this source extremely credible.

Title: Natural Childbirth & Waterbirth Facts, Benefits for Mom & Baby Author: Marie Black- Holistic Life Coach Date Published: Uploaded August 4th 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: Insightful information about benefits and concerns of the waterbirth method of childbirth. How This Influenced My Thinking: Good points on benefits of waterbirth, she was able to give me more information on my concerns as well as suggestions for research. Credibility of Source: very credible information and citing of sources.

Author: No Author Date Published: December 7, 2011 Why Relevant and Summary: This blog is very helpful because it explains the Bronfenbrenner's Theory in detail. It also gives examples of the five different concepts and applies it to adolescent's behavior. How This Influenced My Thinking: This blog helped me make the relationship between the five stages not only a child's perspective but in an adolescents perspective. Credibility of Source: I wouldn't call this blog very credible but it gives good examples of the five concepts of the theory.

How this influenced my thinking: This really explained how important it is to make sure co-sleeping is right for both you and your significant other. Tshoff Date Published: September 27, 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: Talk about genetic diversity within Africa, including information on Lactase persistence in adults. How This Influenced My Thinking: Interested article that helps gives concrete examples of genetic variances. Credibility of Source: Very Credible

Why Relevant and Summary: Talks about teaching techniques from a vygotskian perspective How this influenced my thinking: I was confused as to how to translate the theory into a teaching method but this article cleared it up. Title:Outdoor Play Author: Johnson, Christie & Wardle Date Published: 2005 Why relevant/summary: This article is relevant because it throughly discusses the importance of physical activity to a growing toddler, specifically how outdoor play can aide in not only their physical development but how it can also be used as a tool for cognitive learning opportunities. How this influenced my thinking: This article opened my eyes to how outdoor play is not only providing play and physical activity for a young child but also many different learning opportunities that they may not experience otherwise. Credibility of Source: Very credible, the authors provided many examples as well as citations and references.

Date Published: 2005 Why Relevant & Summary: Earlychildhood NEWS is the online resource for teachers and parents of young children, infants to age 8. You will find articles about developmentally appropriate practice, child health, safety and behavior as well as links to teacher resources. Relevant in that it's up to date applicable information on child development in Piaget's Preoperational Stage. How This Influenced My Thinking: Explained in depth how children experience the world differently than adults. Credibility of Source: Great

It also gives an insight on how people who are diagnosed with ADHD act in different settings. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article definitely made my knowledge of ADHD a lot broader. Credibility of Source: This article seems to be credible.
