Why Relevant and Summary: In this article, I learned that the sex talk can help prevent a lot of things. Such as fear, awkwardness, and curiosity. Having the sex talk is well awkward, but it helps prevent unsafe sex, unplanned pregnancies, and well sex. Apparently, if a parent talks to their child about sex it decreases the number of partners they will have and it will keep abstinence a lot longer than others. For a girl, it is easier and less awkward to talk to your mother about sex than it is your father. I learned that it is never too early to have the sex talk with your child and that there are websites and centers that can help you ease into the sex talk without it being awkward. I read about how there are signs that indicate puberty is around the corner for girls and how a mother should have open communications with her daughter when it comes to puberty and sex. How This Influenced My Thinking: i knew sex was always an awkward topic, but when i was young my dad explained to me what it was, and discussed puberty with me and it was normal and not odd. as i grew into adolescence it became wierd to talk to my parents. this just showed me that parents can find it difficult to the point where they ignore the issue and dont bother discussing it. Additionally, the article features a few personal stories from young teens. How this influenced my thinking: As a mother of two young girls, it won't be long until I'll be dealing with talking to my kids about these issues. I was glad to read from several sources, including this one, that the rates of sexual activity among teens and preteens has been declining over the past few years.

It explain what to expect the question to be at certain stages and how much information to give and how to present it. how has this influenced my thinking: I have a 7 and a 9 year old and I am very interested to know as much as possible about this topic. I was very surprised to read how the professionals contributing to this article find it a OK to explain to an 8 year old the basic concept of conception. credibility of source: it was published on the "American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry" website.

They elaborate on how a girl start her menstrual cycle and why it is important for them not to engage in adult activities such as sex. In this article, they describe the situation of a little girl in the first grade! How This Influenced My Thinking: Made me aware of what I was consuming and how I may decide to raise my children. It is concerning that there's a possibility of "outside" estrogen causing this early onset of puberty. It's also interesting that we do not note this trend in boys. It talks about, changes in body shape, breasts, body hair and changes going on in the mind. It talks about menarche, getting enough sleep, sexuality, dealing with dating etc. Most importantly, the website talks about protecting yourself, if your sexually active and how important it is to seek medical care such as seeing a gynocologist. How This Influenced My Thinking: I think it is great that this information is presented appropriately for young girls to utilize and educate themselves on what is going on within their bodies as well as reassuring them that this is all normal and happens to all of us. I'm glad that this information is readily available to girls that perhaps do not have relationships with their parents to discuss these topics. It talks about the basic respect that partners need to show each other. It says that a happy marriage means respecting your spouse. It also discusses healthy ways to resolve conflicts step by step with a spouse. How This Influenced My Thinking: This article made a great point - that true compatibility doesn't exist, so shrug off the little stuff. It says that irreconcilable differences are normal and we shouldn't try to resolve or unresolve but rather come to terms with them and except the differences between you and your partner. I often feel that if you are unhappy because of disagreements that will never be resolved -then you should leave. But the point that we should just except these disagreements and cherish the stronger aspects of a relationship has changed my thinking on this. It gives statistics of teenage pregnancies, sexual intercourse, marriage. How it affected my thinking: These statistics blew me away. I honestly though there were not that many teenagers having sex at an early age, I thought many teenagers had their first intercourse when they were at least 17 years old, but according to the statistics there are teenagers whom are having intercourse at the young age of 12 and 3. Credibility: seems credible since its from a teen website.
