Title: Peer Relations in Middle Childhood Author: Blume & Zembar Date: n.d. Why Relevant and Summary: This article explains how friendship is important in middle childhood. Whether or not someone likes you or dislikes you can really make or break a person. Friends provide all the needs the one self can use at that time and in the future. For one of them being a need for survival because in middle childhood friendship is based on people liking you which then determines their popularity status. Also discussed in this article is the individual need for success, power, status, approval, autonomy, and etc. It also expresses the concerns of rejection in children at this age and it affects them. How this influenced my thinking: This helped my understanding of why it is important for us to connect with others and increase our social skills. I have found a new understanding of the word friendship from this article. Credibility: Seems credible because they cited quotes.

The habit forming patters of socialization developed at an early age impact how we relate to people as we become older. How this influenced my thinking: I was not aware how big of an impact peer relations/friendships in middle childhood had on adults. Credibility of source: seems very credible. It is actually useful information that I found to be interesting because there are things that even I did not know. How this Influenced My Thinking: It influenced my thinking by making me realize that middle childhood was perhaps the most important time in a child's life that mattered the most to them. looking back now at y middle childhood I can see why it was so important. that's the period in time where things changed for me and I know changed for every other kid around me. How This Influenced My Thinking: I showed me how our problem of obesity cannot be limited to diet and exercise, but is the perfect storm of sendentary/obesity-promoting occurances within our culture. How This Influenced My Thinking: Called me to evaluate my own experience with friendship when I was going through middle childhood. How This Influenced My Thinking: After our class discussion on BMI, it made me wonder if perhaps the statistics listed regarding overweight children are based off of BMI. Even though BMI is a good place to start, it is certainly not an accurate indicator of our children's body composition. Credibility of Source: High.

Why relevant and summary: This article discusses the importance of friendship during early childhood and middlechildhood. It discusses some of the factors that allows a child to keep a friend and the possible outcomes when a child is rejected. This article also discussed that it is imperative that a parent understand when a child is lonely or just simply wants to be alone. How this influenced my thinking: I found it interesting that like adults children need their alone time. Why Relevant and Summary: I thought this article was pertinent to friendships in middle childhood, and in particular, it seemed useful in terms of dealing with negative social interactions. There are good statistics and information on how to get help for a child that has been bullied How This Influenced My Thinking: It was good to look at the numbers and see how many children said they had been bullied because of their weight Credibility of Source: Taken from a website that is fighting obesity.

How can we help them to overcome obesity? How it influenced my thinking: This helps me to realize how truly important it is to emphasize that this a lifestyle change, not a diet. We want our children to understand the importance of health and exercise and that short amount of efforts will not reap long term gains. Credibility: Very. How this influenced my thinking: This made me realize that ADHD could affect an dult to the point of suicide. Credibility:it came from WedMD and was recently published.

How This Influenced My Thinking: This helped back-up my ideas. Credibility of Source: It seems credible. It has all the sources and links they used on the bottom of the page, as well as on the images and videos used.

Title:  Identity Development Throughout the Lifetime: An Examination of Eriksonian Theory Author: Justin T. Sokol Date Published: March 1, 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: Erikson's theories are relevant to almost all types of research on identity development. Identity development is a life-span process, as Eriksonian theories suggest. This particular publication is an in depth examination of Erikson's theories on identity development: identification in early childhood, Identity formation in adolescence, identity development in adulthood. How This Influenced My Thinking: I agree with the research: Identity development is an ongoing process that continues through adulthood. I see examples of this looking over my childhood, adolescence and adulthood so far. At 32 years old, I can honestly agree with Erikson's theories on identity development - I feel as though my identity (though does not change drastically anymore) certainly continues to develop.  Title: Author:Kendra Cherryh Date Published:D.N.N Why Relevant and Summary:It is a clear description simply written for the lay person to understand the basic development of language. How This Influenced My Thinking:it has made me have a respect and understanding for how language begins.  It has made me think about how it all starts with the simple sounds an infant makes Credibility of Source: It seems to be a very credible source.

Title: White Paper: Teaching in the Zone Author: Angela Lui Date published: 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: This paper goes into amazing depth about zone proximal development as well as scaffolding. It doesn't give a generic textbook definition, but rather puts it into terms that are not only interesting but easy to understand. How this influenced my thinking: It allowed to be better understand what the textbook had already explained. I was able to see real life examples of these definitions. Credibility of source: Very credible, there were tons of references and the author appears to have done extensive research prior to writing this.
