The stud found that over weight children were put at more risk for more health complications therefore more likely to die before the age of 55. How it influenced my thinking: This article made me more aware of the risk factors that children face when over weight. Credibility: Very. Date Published: 2009 Summary and Relevance: The fight against obesity should not be focused on weight, but rather healthy living. Focusing on weight creates weight prejudice. this is relevant because people who are obese are more likely to be bullied about their weight (even if they are living healthy). How this Changed my Thinking: There are different ways to view fighting obesity, and focusing on lifestyle is healthier for self-esteem. This article presents relevant information for our human development class as well as resources for further research. How This Influenced My Thinking:  Brain development greatly influences me and I am always looking for information that I can put into practice. I have experience in working with youth who have faced maltreatment at an early age and I can see the lasting effects it has had on them. Title: Children & Divorce Author: GSYMC Date Published: 2009 Why Relevant and Summary: It helps to understand the behavior of children at different stages depending on when divorce takes place. How this influenced my thinking:It helped me to understand what I was going through when my parents got divorced. Also helps me to understand what other children might go through and how to be a supportive friend or family member. Credibility: This site seems to be credible.

title: Social Issues: What Can Parents Do? author: PBS- parents date: n.d why relevant and summary: I found this article very interesting, it gives great advice on how can parents help their kids with their friendships and what can they do without overpowering them. how has this influenced my thinking: This article has confirmed a lot of strategies that I have used with my kids and their friends so far. credibility of source: it is published on the PBS website.

Title: Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Author: Encyclopedia of Mental Disorders Why Relevant and Summary: This article is relevant to testing intelligence because the Wechsler Intelligence Scale is a method of measurement for testing intelligence in children. This scale offers subtests that measures intelligence by verbal and nonverbal performance. How This Influenced My Thinking: I was able to better understand the different subtests that makes up the Wechsler Intelligence scale. Title: Puberty Author: No Author Date Published: Last updated October 13, 2010 Why Relevant and Summary: This article is published on .gov website and provides, in depth information about the changes that specifically happen to girls. It talks about, changes in body shape, breasts, body hair and changes going on in the mind. It talks about menarche, getting enough sleep, sexuality, dealing with dating etc. Most importantly, the website talks about protecting yourself, if your sexually active and how important it is to seek medical care such as seeing a gynocologist. How This Influenced My Thinking: I think it is great that this information is presented appropriately for young girls to utilize and educate themselves on what is going on within their bodies as well as reassuring them that this is all normal and happens to all of us. I'm glad that this information is readily available to girls that perhaps do not have relationships with their parents to discuss these topics. Credibility of Source: Yes, this website is managed by : The Office of Woman's Health, Office of Assistant Secretary for Health and the US Department of Health and Human Services.

Title: Kohlberg Author: Saul McLeod Date Published: 2011 Why relevant/summary: This goes over the different levels and stages of kohlberg's moral reasoning theory. Explains an exaple he used for determining moral reasoning (Heinz question). How this influenced my thinking: This further explained what each stage resembles morally. this showed me one of the examples from his research, and how each group resoinded to it. this gave me firther depth into the stages. (at least from another perspective) Credibility: Saul McLeod has written quite a bit of information around psychology and development. Simply Psychology website. has citations and references.

Title:Religious vs Secular Humanism Author: Austin Cline Date Published: n.d Why Relevant and Summary: It helps define what it is to be humanist, and discusses whether their is some sort of religion involved in everything, even within Atheism or Humanism. How This Influenced My Thinking: It got me wondering about all the different religious believes and how different everyone's mentality and beliefs are. Credibility of Source: Seems credible.

It discusses why kids bully, signs of bullying, and strategies to stop bullying. How this influenced my thinking:I love that this article says to be brave and walk away. Never confront the bully. Sometimes, the bully is just looking to get a reaction out of you. Credibility of source:Credible

Title: Should gay marriage be legal Author: Procon.org Date Published: 4/12/2013 Why Relevant and Summary: Gives a rather unbiased argument to both sides of gay marriage. Very useful information, background and other wise. How This Influenced My Thinking: Didn't, but it was very interesting to read some of the background information . Credibility of Source: Credible, based on common sense as well as references from history.

Kant believed that moral reasoning is not based on the idea that humans are a means to an end, but that were an end in ourselves. How This Influenced My Thinking: I have studied Kant in Philosophy classes in the past, and enjoyed having the chance here to cross previous learning into what I am learning now.
