Why Relevant and Summary: This article gives a good description of the different temperaments and different parenting skills you could use based on the temperament. How this influenced my thinking: I used to think that there was only one way to parent and what worked for one child would work for all but this showed me that by understanding your child's temperament you can develop a much more effective way to parent. Credibility of source: Seems credible, a lot of references.

There are also a number of other highly relevant articles that are easily accessible on this site. How this influenced my thinking: There is a lot of information about raising a child with ADHD. I've never had experience with this in regards to my own children, but as a former teacher I have been aware of the 'basics' for many years. There is so much to learn and understand on this topic, especially so that caregivers can be more understanding of individualized needs and be less likely to judge or treat children with ADHD differently. Credibility of source: This is a Discovery Health article. It may not be highly credible in it's own right, but likely pulled it's information from scholarly/medical/research based resources.

Why relevant and summary: This article discusses the importance of friendship during early childhood and middlechildhood. It discusses some of the factors that allows a child to keep a friend and the possible outcomes when a child is rejected. This article also discussed that it is imperative that a parent understand when a child is lonely or just simply wants to be alone. How this influenced my thinking: I found it interesting that like adults children need their alone time. I never realized the importance of them being able to play by themself and if a parent is too pushy that it could cause them to withdraw. Credibility of Source: Article was published by a Dr.

Title: The signs of a heart attack in women over 50 date: 01/05/2010 author: Sherril Steel-Carlin Why relevant and summary: This was a short article articulating what women over 50 should know to prevent a heart attack or get help as soon as they feel the first signs. In the recent disease heart attack are the number one killer of women and most of them can be prevented if we recognize the early symptoms. how has this influenced my thinking: Even though I am not quite that old, I do have an aging mother and mother in law, this is something that they need to be aware and my husband and I as well. Credibility: the article is published in a health and wellness online magazine, and even though the author is not a doctor, I am pretty sure she got her information for credible sources.

Title: Your Body at 50: A Health Guide for Women Author: No Author Date: No Date Why relevant and summary: This is a nice, user friendly overview of changes that women will go through in their 50s. It addresses bodily, mental and emotional changes as well as lifestyle adjustments. How this influenced my thinking: Although our bodies age and change over time, another birthday does not have to mean a loss of fitness or attractiveness. Women who eat clean, healthy diets and exercise regularly, are less likely to age as quickly as women who are sedentary and eat poor diets of processed foods. I have a 53 year old yoga instructor who can pass for 35. I hope I look that good at 50! For most women, her 50s mean menopause. But it is not really a pause at all. Menopause is more like a shift. Your hormone levels shift and change, and your body shifts out of its childbearing years into a new state of balance.

Title:Selective optimization with compensation Author: many Date published:1999 Why relevant and summary: This site is a wikipedia psychology site that provides the reader with an explanation of what SOC is. It also gives a great example of a 75 year man who tries to maximize his cognitive resources. Further more, it breaks down the word 'selective optimization with compensation' and tells you what each word implies on its own, and how all the words as a whole make up the meaning of the theory. How this influenced my thinking: This influenced my thinking by providing me with a great example of SOC in a way that really helped my understanding of it. The idea of SOC makes perfect sense and i can see why psychologists use it when they are talking about successful aging. Credibility of source: I feel like the site was pretty credible. Title: A review of successful aging models: Proposing proactive coping as an important additional strategy Author: Carolijn Ouwehand, Denise T.D. de Ridder, Jozien M. Bensing Date Published: Aug. 3, 2006 Why relevant and summary: This is a really great look into aging successfully and what that process entails. It delves into selective optimization with compensation. The authors argue that proactive coping - attempting to prevent potential stressors that are the cause of this decrease in resources - may be a valuable strategy for successful aging. The authors also present this theory as a method of postponing disengagement from daily activities. How this influenced my thinking: I have not given much thought to aging, although I know it is happening and will continue to happen. I've always just kind of viewed the elderly with a distant form of respect coupled with a bit of sorrow. Let's face it, who wants to get old? Yet, this will happen to all of us unless (god forbid) some unforseen tragedy strikes first. Reading about ways to gracefully and successfully age and avoid or postpone disengagement, will go a long way as people enter older adulthood. When I reach older adulthood, I hope to be as active as that 106 year old man who started running marathons in his 80s!

Title: Identity formation Author: Rice and Dolgen Date published: 2002 Why relevant and summary: This article was a good summary of identity formation and a good in-depth look at James Marcia's four identity status' that make up his theory of identity formation. How this influenced my thinking: I have always been intrigued about what makes people who they are and why some have such a strong personality or sense of who they are while others seem lost as to who they are. This article made me think that mabe the amount of dramatic experiences one faces creates their personality or who they want to be. Credibility of source: I think this came from a book, seems credible most of the info was very similar to wikipedia.

Title: Identity Formation Author: Rice and Dolgin Date Published: 2009 Why Relevant and summary: On this article it discusses different stages that an individual may be in or is going through regarding their identity. It goes in depth on identity formation stages, regarding politics, religion, a vocational goal and more clearly defined sex roles. How this influenced my thinking: I can relate to it because I can relate to some of the stages and understand them better. I also became more informed. Credibility of Source: It seems credible I believe it came from a book perhaps even a textbook.

This is relevant because it explains prenatal care. How this Influenced my thinking: It coincided with what i already knew about prenatal care. i learned however that women should take folic acid even if unsure if they are pregnant, or if they are planning on getting pregnant Credibility of Source:part of U.S. department of health, women's health department.

How This Influenced My Thinking: This allowed me to see more of the preganancy side than anything else. I managed to read through it and find out that there are a lot of things you need to do while pregnant. Credibility: It came from Womenshealth.org, and a doctor wrote this, so I assume that it is very credible.

How This Influenced My Thinking: This influenced my thinking because of its high credibility and target audience. It is in a womenshealth website reviews by healthcare professionals so it is taken into account for many women who are about to have a child or are thinking of having a child. It really shined a light for me in regards to consumig folic acid during pregnancy and how important it is for preventing birth defects. Credibility of Source: High its a .gov

Basically, explaining that women should be able to breastfeed where ever and whenever they want and need too without people thinking it's bad or in a sexual manner. How This Influenced My Thinking: I now think that women should be allowed to breastfeed where ever and whenever because it is a statement and it is natural. Credibility of Source: Credible. It also walks through the different stages of attachment and where children are at in different points in their lives How This Influenced My Thinking: I felt like it gave a little more information and helped to clear some things up that I was wondering about in the textbook. How this influenced my thinking: I found it very interesting that Bowlby thought that there is a link between separations with the mom at an early age and maladjustments later on. Credibility of Source: It is from the simply psychology website, seems credible.

Date Published:Jan 6, 2012 Why Relevant and Summary: It gives a nice overview of what exactly ADHD (and also ADD) is, what symptoms there are and how to work with it. it also gives interesting facts about how long it may have been around, and how many people are diagnosed with it. How this Influenced my Thinking; This just gave me a few extra bits of information about ADHD and its history, i am already familiar with it, as i have a younger brother who was diagnosed with it. Credibility of Source: The authors have degrees, and it is on a credible website about many varying aspects of psychology.

How it Influenced my Thinking: I was really surprised by the number of children in america that have ADHD. It says on average one student in each classroom will have it. Credibility of Source: Seems like a very credible source.

How This Influenced My Thinking: The up-to-date research regarding the history, treatments, and causes of ADHD of this site have been illuminating and helpful. Title: My Autism and Me Author: "tordajav" Date Published: Nov. 12, 2011 Why relevant and summary: This is a great short video/ documentary narrated by a young girl diagnosed with Asperger's named Rosie. She is very knowledgeable and gives a beautiful perspective. 

Title: Parenting Styles and Adolescence Author: Kimberly Kopko Date Published: 2007 Why relevant and summary: This is an excellent overview of Diana Baumrind's parenting styles through Cornell University Department of Policy Analysis and Management. This research provides an overview of the parenting styles presented by Diana Baumrind, and their impact on adolescent development. How this influenced my thinking: These parenting concepts really interest me and inspired me to reflect on the several parenting styles I encountered as a child moving through a variety of foster homes. It also gave me quite a lot to think about in regards to how I parent my own children. Often I question whether or not a child having grown up in such an unstable environment as I did, is able to be a healthy and 'good' parent. However, after reading through these parenting styles, I have realized that my parenting style is natural, healthy and has a good balance of warmth and discipline. Credibility of source: Cornell University research seems credible.

Title: Catholic Marriage Preparations Author: NA Date Published: NA Why Relevant and Summary: This website is very helpful if one is planning to get married in the Catholic Church. Although it's only an outline of the marriage preparation classes, it definitely helps to give the key points of what is needed before getting married such as sacraments and also includes how Religion plays an important role within the marriage. How this influenced my Thinking: This website made me realize what a marriage consist of. For many people like me one usually thinks that married life is the best time of one's life and there is no problems that come with it, but reality is that a lot of work has to be put towards the marriage from both parts in order to have a successful marriage. This article definitely made it clear that a marriage has a lot of components. Credibility: Seems credible since it's from a parish website

Title- why religion matters author-Patrick F. Fagan date-Jan 25th 1996 why relevant and summary- this site provided many supporting examples as to how religion influences a child's upbringing. This give my paper some depth and intertwined different view points. how this influenced me- i wasn't really influenced by this site because it didn't add anything that i hadn't heard before. It might influence a person more if they are not as familiar with religion, specifically Christianity, as i was. credibility-the site seems pretty credible. It is a .org website, and was written by someone with a PHD in his area of study.
