Author: John Stossel Date Published: Dec. 6, 2012 Why relevant and details: This article discusses the decrease in the percentage of middle schoolers engaging in sexual activity over the last decade and also offers tips for parents on how to talk to their kids about sex. Additionally, the article features a few personal stories from young teens. How this influenced my thinking: As a mother of two young girls, it won't be long until I'll be dealing with talking to my kids about these issues. I was glad to read from several sources, including this one, that the rates of sexual activity among teens and preteens has been declining over the past few years.

Although it's only an outline of the marriage preparation classes, it definitely helps to give the key points of what is needed before getting married such as sacraments and also includes how Religion plays an important role within the marriage. How this influenced my Thinking: This website made me realize what a marriage consist of. For many people like me one usually thinks that married life is the best time of one's life and there is no problems that come with it, but reality is that a lot of work has to be put towards the marriage from both parts in order to have a successful marriage. In the recent disease heart attack are the number one killer of women and most of them can be prevented if we recognize the early symptoms. how has this influenced my thinking: Even though I am not quite that old, I do have an aging mother and mother in law, this is something that they need to be aware and my husband and I as well. Credibility: the article is published in a health and wellness online magazine, and even though the author is not a doctor, I am pretty sure she got her information for credible sources.

A few of the benefits that many agreed on were that there was better one on one care and that they were able to become closer to their families. How this Influenced my Thinking: This was a very insightful article on why most elder people would rather be cared for in home versus in a facility. Credibility: This website conducted research on this topic.

Title: Caregiving Support & Help: Tips for Making Family Caregiving Easier Date: last update April 2013 Author: Melinda Smith, M.A. and Jeanne Segal, Ph.D. Why relevant and summary: This was a very interesting article that outlined some of the challenges of being a caregiver and how to handle the situation. Some of the tips where practical like, exercise, eat healthy or get enough sleep to more specific which had to do with how to handle the emotional burden of the situation. How has this influenced my thinking: This article was very interesting for me, because I currently support my parents, even though they are in good health and able to take care of themselves, still some of the issues outline in the article apply to my situation as well. Source credibility: The article was publish on a government website and the authors are medical professionals.

Bensing Date Published: Aug. 3, 2006 Why relevant and summary: This is a really great look into aging successfully and what that process entails. It delves into selective optimization with compensation. The authors argue that proactive coping - attempting to prevent potential stressors that are the cause of this decrease in resources - may be a valuable strategy for successful aging. The authors also present this theory as a method of postponing disengagement from daily activities. How this influenced my thinking: I have not given much thought to aging, although I know it is happening and will continue to happen. I've always just kind of viewed the elderly with a distant form of respect coupled with a bit of sorrow. Let's face it, who wants to get old? Yet, this will happen to all of us unless (god forbid) some unforseen tragedy strikes first. Reading about ways to gracefully and successfully age and avoid or postpone disengagement, will go a long way as people enter older adulthood. When I reach older adulthood, I hope to be as active as that 106 year old man who started running marathons in his 80s!

How This Influenced My Thinking: It forced me to look at the situation--caregiving for an elderly parent/parents-- from both perspectives. I was able to understand how it affects both the children and the parents and able to understand the pros and cons. Credibility of Source: CNN News-- pretty credible.

How this changed my thinking: I saw that even with how destructive divorce can be on a child this can help them to cope. Credibility: Seems credible.

How This Influenced My Thinking: This article has influenced my thinking by discussing so many factors that influence a child's weight and doesn't blame the parent as being a careless or lazy parent rather it points to specific factors, such as socioeconomic status and genetics.
