This program is designed to fund the implementation of innovative digital-humanities projects that have successfully completed a start-up phase and demonstrated their value to the field. These projects help us better understand the central problems in the humanities, and they also raise new questions in the humanities which help develop new digital applications and approaches for the use in the humanities. The digital humanities Implementation Grants programs seeks to identify projects that have successfully completed their startup phase and are well positioned to have a major impact. These grants involve, Implementation of computationally bases methods or techniques for humanities research; implantation of new digital tools for use in humanities research; implementation of new digital tools for use in humanities research, public programming, or educational settings; efforts to ensure the completion and long-term sustainability of existing digital resources; studies that examine the philosophical or practical implications of the use of emerging technologies in specific fields or disciplines of the humanties, or in interdisciplinary collaborations involving several fields or disciplines; or implementation of new digital modes of scholarly communication that facilitate peer review, collaboration, or the dissemination of humanities scholarship for various audiences.

Alan Lu and William G thomass III are humanities chairs with a long involvement in digital issues who have experienced budget cuts in regards to digital technologies, which are driving changes in higher education. They believe humanities faculty members, chairs, and adminstrators right now have a choice. This choice consist of taking no systematic action on the digital humanites front, and to let the long term digital future build for them. The other option is for humanities faculty, chairs, and adminstrators to plan how to intergrate the digital humanities systematically throughout the different departments.

This blog article by Stanley Fish discusses how digital humanities is seen by others in positive and negative ways. Some people find that digital humanities is a "monstrous terrain" because it destroys traditional humanities and that not all authorship of online sources are accurate. On the other hand, digital humanities allows students to use a variety of resources with conducting research. Stanley explains one of the challenges in digital humanities is to spread the awareness of such a field.

This article, titled Humanities in the Digital Age by Alan Liu and William G. Thomas III, addresses the hard times that have fallen upon higher education. One solution and innovative way to combat these financial cuts, the writers claim, is to make a movement into the digital humanities in higher education. The article continues on to highlight the best parts of digital humanities and how it can be a huge help to struggling universities both public and private.

This article contains three main reasons why Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) should have Digital Humanities Projects. The three main reasons listed in this article are that Universities without Digital Humanity Centers (or cultures) can share resources, some of the research is bound to be cool, and humanities research builds connections. Each assertion is backed up with some research from Digital Humanities projects and is a very persuasive argument for the digital humanities programs and research.

This post focuses on the group Weigle Information Commons (WIC) and their thoughts and ideas after attending a Digital Humanities event titles "Libraries, Labs, and Classrooms: Locating the Digital Humanitites." The WIC fit into the categories discussed and expanded on the ideas presented at the event by asking themselves, "how can WIC promote DH projects among our students and faculty and provide the resources to make such studies come to life?" The WIC then outlines some ideas and projects they have to promote "digital publics" through digital humanities work.

This link leads to Marylhurst University Online Digital Humanities Degree. I thought this was worth noting because it is actually an English and Digital Humanities degree that is being offered. I've looked at a few local colleges near our Texas A&M, and very few universities offer Digital Humanities as a main degree and not a minor or extra field of study. This is worth looking into because the universities need to start offering this degree since it is making so many changes to the way we view the humanities.

Jouranlist Steve Kolowich reveals how digital humanities can help education, especially through undergraduate work. He explains that most undergraduate students are unaware of how to use digital tools in their research and the best way to confront this issue is to teach them to work with metadata and design databases. Teaching digital humanities is a fundamental shift as well, because grading items such as crowdsourcing projects is quite different to grading a multiple question exam. Like many other professors in the digital humanities field, Professor Laura McGrane believes if the job is done right, students will be able to conquer research in a more knowledgeable way.

This link, rather than an actual article, is an entry for the grant application process for the Digital Humanities, closing on Jan. 23, 2013. Although it lacks any actual discussion of its own on the Digital Humanities, it provides a link to its own entry on the NEH website which has a collection of projects which have applied for grants, such as WordSeer. The grant requires its applicants to be nonprofits or education institutions, meaning its list of applicants may provide insight into modern innovations in the Digital Humanities with regards to education.

This article focuses on the limitations of the traditional method of studying literature. David Smith, assistant professor of computational social science in the College of Computer and Information Science, and Ryan Cordell, assistant professor of English and digital humanities in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University hope to mend the gaps and limitations to the traditional method by encouaging a digitial humanities project for their school.

The Digital Humanities Summer Institute represents an opportunity for various people involved in the digital humanities to take week long courses covering various kinds of topics, broken into three rough categories: introductory, intermediate, advanced. Referred to as a "grown up nerd camp," the DHSI represents an opportunity for scholars to expand their toolset and learn more about the Digital Humanities. When the article was posted, DHSI has been running for ten years, and continues to run today.

Left of Black, a video program from Duke University, reveals a conversation between Professor Mark Anthony Neal, Howard Rambsy II, and Jessica Marie Johnson--all of whom are scholars. The three have an educational discussion over digital humanities and its relation to those who study different cultures and ethnicity, specifically Black Studies. Over this thirty minute conversation Rambsy and Johnson talk about what they have been doing in digital humanities and what can be done to incorporate more Black Studies work. For instance, Rambsy has been creating archival work in Black Studies by posting historical issues of "Negro Digest." Johnson explains how media effects the finance black studies digital humanities receives and that there are a variety of ways to produce black history in powerful ways online. Rambsy believes one great way to spread black studies digital humanities is to introduce and push students into projects in related fields.

This website, ThinkingCulture, aims to exercise the cultural imagination. Figure/Ground conducts a series of interviews for the website, continued here with Miriam Posner. Miriam Posner teaches Digital Humanities at UCLA. The interview with Posner focuses on the her path into her academic post. Posner explains her struggles with tenure and her early career in academics. The interview continues on to discuss Posner's teaching, digital humanities work and her writing plans.

Audrey Altman is set to give a presentation at the University of Iowa entitled, "Attck of the Digital Map! The Wonderful Monsters We Create When Humanities and Technology Collide." In her upcoming presentation Audrey will discuss both historical analysis and digital mapping and the requirements that both bring to the table individually in any given project. Both are individually composed of different aspects and Audrey will try to discuss the pros and cons of both tools when used together simultaneously for one project. Altman will also highlight on the project that she and her undergraduate students have embarked upon this semester that attempts to utilize the two aspects into one project. She will attepmt to delve into the findings, triumphs, ailures, and education gained by she and her students throughout the whole experience.

This short blog post announces and advertises Audrey Altman's upcoming talk about digital mapping. This talk is designed to discuss how historical analysis of maps and digital mapping require different sets of skills and methodologies. She is speaking from the context of a project she is heading which is which is involving undergraduate students in to creation of map-based documents for an archive on Iowa Latino/a history. Her talk is going to talk about both problems and surprises involved with the project and digital mapping.

This is the main page of UK-based Digital Humanities project DIGHUMLAB. This project's purpose is to "contribute to skills development, internationalisation and innovation through a national focus on Digital Humanities in research, education and knowledge transfer." In other words, it is a project designed to further the importance of research in the Digital Humanities field through the development of a variety of new methods for use in the Digital Humanities.

The website offers information for different job offerings, blog posts, and classes offered in the field at Texas A&M. The website looks to be mostly run by the faculty for the department at Texas A&M.

This news article by Casey Gould for Campus Times of the University of Rochester addresses the Presidential Symposium and their meeting to discuss what to do with and about the humanities in higher education. The panel discussed what to do with the humanities to continue to make it relevant in times where many are claiming that it isn't. The discussion of digitizing the humanities came up to some agreement and disagreement.

Richard E. Miller, an English professor at Rutgers University, gives a presentation to the Rutgers University Board of Governors on Digital Humanities. He argues that the English department is moving towards that of Digital Humanities due in large part to the internet becoming increasingly involved in English and humanities education. His presentation defines and discusses Web 2.0 (the web as used for creation rather than just research) and how the use of things such as Wikipedia, blogs, etc. are pushing everyone towards creation-mode on the internet. Through this presentation, Miller hopes to convince the Board of Governors to allow for the creation of a Digital Humanities department at Rutgers University.

This is the main page of Stanford University's projects in digital humanities, mainly the Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA). CESTA is a digital humanities project comprised of several projects, that span a wide variety of content areas and use different approaches. Two of the three projects mentioned (Mapping the Republic of Letters and Spatial History Project) seem to be a collaborative research effort to digitally map a concept. The last project under CESTA, Literary Lab, seems to be an archive of papers, dissertaions, and research by the current students and staff members of Stanford.

The core purpose of this article is the promotion of the digital humanities in academia by informing digital humanists how they might be able to better communicate the value of digital humanities. The four main points are: educate the general audience about the subject matter, the need for reviewers to understand the diverse nature of the field, documentating ones role in collaborative projects for the sake of promotion, and explaining the changing nature of peer review in the field. It also briefly addresses the need for institutions to accept new forms of media.
