This program is designed to fund the implementation of innovative digital-humanities projects that have successfully completed a start-up phase and demonstrated their value to the field. These projects help us better understand the central problems in the humanities, and they also raise new questions in the humanities which help develop new digital applications and approaches for the use in the humanities. The digital humanities Implementation Grants programs seeks to identify projects that have successfully completed their startup phase and are well positioned to have a major impact. These grants involve, Implementation of computationally bases methods or techniques for humanities research; implantation of new digital tools for use in humanities research; implementation of new digital tools for use in humanities research, public programming, or educational settings; efforts to ensure the completion and long-term sustainability of existing digital resources; studies that examine the philosophical or practical implications of the use of emerging technologies in specific fields or disciplines of the humanties, or in interdisciplinary collaborations involving several fields or disciplines; or implementation of new digital modes of scholarly communication that facilitate peer review, collaboration, or the dissemination of humanities scholarship for various audiences.

This blog article by Stanley Fish discusses how digital humanities is seen by others in positive and negative ways. Some people find that digital humanities is a "monstrous terrain" because it destroys traditional humanities and that not all authorship of online sources are accurate. On the other hand, digital humanities allows students to use a variety of resources with conducting research. Stanley explains one of the challenges in digital humanities is to spread the awareness of such a field.

The NEH's Office of Digital Humanities announces 5 institutes that will receive government grants to further their research. Included are the University of Texas at Austin's HiPSTAS, the University of Maryland, College Park's Digital Humanities Data Curation, George Mason University's Another Week | Another Tool - A Digital Humanities Barnraising, Folger Shakespeare Library's Folger Shakespeare Library Summer Institute for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities: "Early Modern Digital Agendas," and Arkansas State University's Humanities Heritage 3D Visualization: Theory and Practice.

This article comments on common ideas found in many definitions of digital humanities. The author uses the collaborative aspects of digital humanities to draw connections to a broader description of what he calls the open humanities. This new distinction includes the "aspects of the humanities aimed at democratizing production and consumption of humanities research," but excludes the purely digital elements of the digital humanities, such as code, markup, and hardware.

This article highlights three large uncertainties of the Micha Cardenas about the digital humanities: is queer new media rare or is analysis of it rare, if there is something "conservative, even sellable" that is present in the digital humanities, and can queer theory, new media, or the digital humanities "disturb hegemonic systems." Although the article does not answer any of these questions, it discusses the history of Queer Theory as "hip, trendy," and its potential reflection in the digital humanities. These questions also arise out of a concern that discussions in digital humanities, particularly CCS, "can run down a road that is very conservative."

Digital Humanities 2012 was a conference held in July of 2012 with the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations. ADHO is an umbrella organization meant to promote digital research and teaching within the humanities disciplines. Originating in 1989, the Digital Humanities 2012 conference was held at the University of Hamburg in Germany this year. The website contains all of the conference activities as well as many of the presentations in the form of podcasts.

This blog post created in anticipation of a panel on undergraduate work and research in the digital humanities creates many questions and ideas for discussion at the panel. The author invites others to share input in hopes of turning it into a discussion to bring forward to the panel at the 2013 Digital Humanities conference. Among these questions and ideas are questions of the best way to incorporate project-based digital humanities research approaches in the undergraduate classroom as well as designing curricula to incorporate Digital Humanities into the coursework while still including traditional humanities disciplines.

She begins by defining humanities, digital humanities, infrastructure, and research infrastructure. Along the way, she presents several useful and informational websites for those interested in learning more about the digital humanities. She also specifically talks about DARIAH (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities) and its establishment as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium. As the presentation goes on, she shares its role with libraries as well as academics.

This article contains three main reasons why Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) should have Digital Humanities Projects. The three main reasons listed in this article are that Universities without Digital Humanity Centers (or cultures) can share resources, some of the research is bound to be cool, and humanities research builds connections. Each assertion is backed up with some research from Digital Humanities projects and is a very persuasive argument for the digital humanities programs and research.

This link leads to Marylhurst University Online Digital Humanities Degree. I thought this was worth noting because it is actually an English and Digital Humanities degree that is being offered. I've looked at a few local colleges near our Texas A&M, and very few universities offer Digital Humanities as a main degree and not a minor or extra field of study. This is worth looking into because the universities need to start offering this degree since it is making so many changes to the way we view the humanities.

This website, arts-humanities.net, aims to support and advance the use and understanding of digital tools and methods for research and teaching in the arts and humanities by providing: information on projects creating and using digital content, tools and methods to answer research questions, information on tools and methods for creating and using digital resources, a listing of expert centers and individual researchers, a library documenting lessons learned through case studies, briefing papers, and a bibliography. The website encourages people to become members and to contribute.

This article, titled Humanities in the Digital Age by Alan Liu and William G. Thomas III, addresses the hard times that have fallen upon higher education. One solution and innovative way to combat these financial cuts, the writers claim, is to make a movement into the digital humanities in higher education. The article continues on to highlight the best parts of digital humanities and how it can be a huge help to struggling universities both public and private.

This article focuses on the limitations of the traditional method of studying literature. David Smith, assistant professor of computational social science in the College of Computer and Information Science, and Ryan Cordell, assistant professor of English and digital humanities in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University hope to mend the gaps and limitations to the traditional method by encouaging a digitial humanities project for their school.

This short article is about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's initiative for digital humanities supported by the Center for Digital Research of the Humanities. This new push for digital humanities has opened many new positions for scholarly pursuit and research at the school, which helps to open jobs and boost the economy.

Alan Lu and William G thomass III are humanities chairs with a long involvement in digital issues who have experienced budget cuts in regards to digital technologies, which are driving changes in higher education. They believe humanities faculty members, chairs, and adminstrators right now have a choice. This choice consist of taking no systematic action on the digital humanites front, and to let the long term digital future build for them. The other option is for humanities faculty, chairs, and adminstrators to plan how to intergrate the digital humanities systematically throughout the different departments.

Digital Humanities Now is a website that showcases the scholarship and news in the world of digital humanities. The website's mission statement says that they hope to accomplish that "through a process of aggregation, discovery, curation, and review." Here, people can come and view what is happening in the field of digital humanities and get caught up on current events.

Although alt-ac is not exclusive digital humanities, or even exclusively humanities, the report on the #alt-ac panel for the Digital Humanities 2011 highlights some of the issues and questions relevant to the DH field. Some of the problems are personal in nature, such as the professional differences between#alt-ac and tenure, and others are more institutional, such as the issues with "credential creep." Although the article does not necessarily provide answers, it highlights many of the concerns alt-ac professionals have in pursuing their career.

The Digital Humanities Summer Institute represents an opportunity for various people involved in the digital humanities to take week long courses covering various kinds of topics, broken into three rough categories: introductory, intermediate, advanced. Referred to as a "grown up nerd camp," the DHSI represents an opportunity for scholars to expand their toolset and learn more about the Digital Humanities. When the article was posted, DHSI has been running for ten years, and continues to run today.

This article about the 2011 Digital Humanities meeting highlights three big project announcements from that meeting. The first of these was a then new grant program: Digital Humanities Implementation Grants, a follow up to the Digital Humanities Start-Up Grant program. The second of these was a collection of alternative academic careers for humanities scholars titled #alt-academy. The last of these was the introduction of Press Forward, an initiative aiming to fuse traditional scholarly review with open-web filters.

This article on the National Endowment for the Humanities website contains information on a project directors meeting for the Digital Humanities department that was open to the public. The meeting took place in Washington, D.C. on September 20th, and it included multiple aspects such as lightning-talks and roundtable discussions with librarians, researchers, and funding organizations.
