    Name of the site: Wordle: a word cloud generating site Brief explanation of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: By accessing the Wordle site, participants can create a word cloud from the text I have provided via e-mail. The participants will be able to create a personal word cloud that will be shared with the group as a warm-up (pre-training) activity. By providing the site, participants will engage in generative learning that will be used as a means of collaboration. Brief explanation of why this site is better than others: I had not used a word cloud creation site prior to beginning this project, but found Wordle easy to access and use. I like that there are sample clouds to view prior to creating, but also found the site easy to navigate if participants are anxious and just want to begin creating. I also selected this type of pre-training to assist with motivating participants with something that can be easily integrated into their own classroom.

    On this site, the users are able to create word clouds to assist students with learning difficult concepts. The user simply copies and pastes the passage into the box, and the image is created for him. What are considered unimportant words, such as "the" and "and," are removed from the displayed work of art. I chose this site because it is really simple to use and free. Additionally, it was mentioned in the class video, and my curiosity led me to the site.

    Brief description of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: If the pre-training is intended as more of a convincing factor then Wordle can be used to exhibit testimonials and phrases that illustrate the importance of the topic you are sharing. The visuals give meaning to the words you are speaking by various colors that can be used and even sizes. Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found (e.g., more effective, creates better products, easier to use, and so on): Extremely easy to use and easy to share! I have used this before as a warm-up activity for my AP students so I think it is great.

This site will allow me to make a word cloud, something that all the participants are familiar with becasue they use them with their students already. The font , sizes, and backgrounds can be changed to match the presrntaion theme. * I looked at another word clud generation site and this one offered offered more font and color styles and was easier to use. This site would also allow you to use a website URL to create a Word Clound where the other only allowed text.

    This site is a great graphic organizer for kids. It is visually stimulating and kids like the fact that their creations are original. I would have teachers use Wordle to get kids engaged with dance vocabulary.

    Wordle is a site for generating word clouds. It can be used to introduce a topic, brainstorm ideas, or check for understanding. I have used the site before, and it allows students to become more involved in their work. I have also used Wordle to build synergy in groups. Some students, in the past, have created their own word clouds by using their inventive, artistic talents without the use of the software.

    With Wordle, a person can paste in the text they want to create a word cloud from and click "Go" to create it. The user has control over the fonts, colors, and shapes the word cloud takes. Wordle could be used to create a word cloud to peak participant interest in the topic of the workshop. For instance, I might choose to create a word cloud using text that describes what Web 2.0 is. Sharing that word cloud before my workshop would give my workshop participants a preview of what they will be learning about.  This site is easy to use and has received numerous positive reviews.

    This site allows you to create your own word clouds. This is a great way to get learners to engage using their own vocabulary terms for their lessons. This may even be a great way for the instructor to display vocabulary in the classroom.

This is valuable when you are trying to emphasize important key words in a lesson or lecture. It is extremely user friendly and can be applied to all content areas and grade levels. This can be used for an introduction or cumulatively over a period of time for reference.

    Word Clouds will allow for providing prior exposure to vocabulary in the presentation that participants may be unfamiliar with. I chose this website over other word cloud creating sites because of its capabilities to change its fonts, colors, and layout while highlighting the frequently used words in the text you provide. They also provide the ability to print, save, or share the word cloud images created.

    * Wordle is a "word cloud" generator from text that you provide giving greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. The clouds can be tweaked with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes, and the images can either be printed out or saved to the Wordle gallery to share with others online.     This particular multimedia example is a video about the greenhouse effect, and its title is an engaging aspect that attracts learner by referencing a commonly known children's story. Mayer described the technology centered approach as being based in how and what technologies can be incorporated into the learning process (Mayer, 2009, pp. 10-11). It is definitely technology centered first and foremost. Throughout the video, it uses a great deal of overlaying video with static images or content so that the eye is engaged and drawn into the movement happening on screen. In this case, it meets with Mayer's assumption of dual coding in its design, in that it operates both on an auditory and visual channel (p. 64). In this case, in order for the learner to construct knowledge the auditory channel is the most important because the video images themselves really just augment the commentary, rather than presenting identical content visually. The images are stunning; there are amazing 3-D representations of earth, and video of the first atomic explosion. While these images are captivating, they don't serve as a second representation of the content itself. The learning that takes would not be considered active learning by Mayer's criteria, because there it is not structured in such a way that the learner does not have any repetitive elements to select and focus on in order to sequence the content in order to build knowledge (p. 71). Also, there is not an opportunity for the learner to integrate the visual and audio components to build knowledge, because the content is primarily in the audio while the video images are more oriented toward holding the learner's attention instead of presenting content or concept related information (p. 71).

    This multimedia application is definitely learner centered. First, it is structured so that there is a repetitive vocabulary so that the learner can tune in and follow along the sequence of the video, which Mayer argues is important to the process of active learning (p. 71). It is also structured to help the learner organize the information. In this case, it is not as Mayer described his example as learners visualizing cause and effect relationships (p. 71). Rather it is structured so that you have a bland graphic, a man talking, explaining the information which he then repeats essentially as the screen shifts to show a visual of what he is describing. This allows for the third process of Mayer's active learning, integration, to occur because the auditory and visual channels coincide so that the brain has time to merge the two separate sources of input into a single knowledge node (pp. 64, 71).

    This site also allows you to create mind maps. I like this site because it easily allows you to move ideas around by a simple click. It also allows you to easily add links to the mind map as well as images and attachments. Using this site makes it easy to share mind maps with others and collaborate.

    I've never used mindmeister, but I love the addition of the larger graphics. Larger graphics offers variety and improves users ability to visually differentiate items. Graphic organizers offer a unique way to introduce topics without overwhelming learners. Interesting graphics and text create visual interest for prelearning. I've only used Freemind for mindmap projects with school, and their graphics are small in relation.

    Mind Meister is an excellent cloud based tool that creates collaborative mind maps. This tool is excellent for team use because multiple people can create and edit the tool simultaneously. The team can also create project timelines with deadlines sent to their favorite calendaring tools.

    Explanation: Allows users to create a graphic organizer with a web-based tool requiring no download. Easy-to-use and results are good quality. Reasoning: Since this site is web-based, it makes using it very easy and accessible to anyone regardless of their operating system. In addition, creation of the graphic organizer is straightforward and requires little support. Also, the resulting graphic is embeddable.

    Mindmeister is one of the first, and still one of the best, online mind-mapping tools. Mindmaps can be used for generative learning as they invite the student to integrate information previously learned in a visual and connected way. Mindmeister is a good tool for this as it is available across iOS and Android. Additionally, it exports web maps into the .mm format which open natively in the free Freemind application for offline viewing and creation.

    * I found MindMeister to be better than other online graphic organizer websites due to the ease of use, variety of templates available, and it is free to create up to three maps at a time.

    o Mindmeister is a mind mapping and online collaboration tool that allows learners to organize their thoughts by creating mind maps. A group of learners can collaborate on a single mind map to come up with a final product, and they can do so in real time. They can add text, graphics, links, notes, etc. to fully develop and present their ideas. In addition, learners can save final product in various formats to embed them in their projects. The interaction learners have with the content to organize it into a visual representation (as supported by Mindmeister) is the perfect example of generative processing or using cognitive processes to make sense of the material (Mayer, 2009). For English Language Learners, this tool allows learners to show what they understand even when they may not have enough English to write a paper on a particular concept/topic. o The site is easy to use and creates a clean and organized product. Some mapping programs can yield such complex products that are very hard to follow. In addition, I enjoy the ability to work offline because teachers and students alike might not always have internet handy. Finally, this is one of the few programs available not only for pc, but also for mobile and tablet.

    This site allows you to generate interactive mindmaps that help organize thoughts and ideas into great visual representations. It is easy to create, to meanipulate, and to edit. You are able to collaborate on the map with others and you canmake the map public or share with select audiences.

    I recently discovered Spinscape, which is a mindmapping webtool that can be used to create a graphic organizer. It has so many features wrapped into one application. Some of the features that I would find helpful in using Spinscape are the ability to insert links, widgets to post Youtube video, notes, attachments and even tasks for managing a project. Spinscape also offers numerous different views such as the classic bubbles, compact, wiki and farmland styles. The ability to put in tags also makes this a useful tool to help locate information. This definitely is a more visually appealing and more multi-functional than some of the other mindmaps that I have seen, but it is significantly more difficult to navigate and use. It exports the files in multiple formats (HTML, PDF, Word), but not in JPEG. I would really love to use this tool for my presentation, but I will probably not because of the cost. I have been using my 7 day trial membership to explore and it will be expired by the time that I do my workshop.

    Previously submitted this website for consideration. The sign-in features include using your Yahoo, Google, and Facebook accounts (most middle schools students have at least 2 of these accounts) as well as the ability to embed widgets(youtube) into the mind map.

    Spinscape is a graphic organizer that allows for images, hyperlinks, and collaboration. As a tool used for organizing material, it can help students focus on the important elements of the course. I believe the most important element of this tool is the potential for the effective use of collaboration among students using images and hyperlinks.

It can be used in real time with users around the world to create collaborative mind maps on any topic. This site provides tutorials for users to learn about the various features that can be utilized within the program. I think this site is the best resource for mind-mapping because of the real time collaborative element and the ability to find a variety of pre-created mind maps.

The website is a great way for teachers to become familiar with technology and creating a customized graphic organizer to fit the content needs. Explanations on how to insert shapes and change the color scheme are detailed enough to help the uneducated participant. The visuals add to the explanation of how to create the graphic organizer. The user can see how the screen on Microsoft word should appear; this assists in finding the correct icon for each step.

    The multimedia application on this website adequately addresses the learner centered approach in its design. It does so in a number of ways, in particular in how it allows the learner to manipulate the multimedia application and then represents the outcome of that manipulation in the form of a cartoon video. Mayer held that the brain possesses dual channels, an auditory and visual processor, and each processes the information separately, later merging these two experiences together to create knowledge (Mayer, 2009, p. 64). This multimedia site works on both aspects of knowledge building in that it includes both and auditory and visual graphics. However, once the introduction is completed the auditory component does not contain any content related information so the user can chose to mute the sound (Mayer, 2009, p. 64). The strength of this multimedia is that it allows the user to manipulate the video itself. For example, students chose a gas, and then select its level in the atmosphere (high-medium-low). From there, the multimedia video plays and shows them in about a thirty second video what would happen on earth in an accelerated time progression in order for students to see the impact the gases have on the atmosphere. However, it is technology centered as well because it includes lots of different graphic elements within the same application, some that can be directly manipulated by the user and others that cannot.

    Assignment, Module 3 - Mywebspiration.com is a free, web-based visual thinking tool that allows users to creatively organize and map mental connections.  One advantage of this site is it converts your mind map bubbles into an outline (and vice versa) format to assist in the writing process.  Users can add color, rapid fire links, and graphics to their work.  Also, the site provide easy-to-use templates to aid in formatting styles.  Collaboration has been made easy as it automatically saves and stores the product online.  It is a wonderful brainstorming tool.

    Webspiration is an online version of the software Inspiration. It is very simple to use to create your own graphic organizers. If could be used to create custom graphic organizers for your presentation and easily shared with the participants through Google Docs or a simple .jpg. Webspiration allows for the create to generate their own customized graphic organizer, many of the other graphic organizer websites do not allow you to customize them. This is an example of essential learning since the learner organizes their new learning in a way that is best for them, thus moving the learning into the working memory.

Compared to other similar programs, this site is very similar to Inspiration, and Kidspiration, used frequently in elementary schools. Final products can be easily shared, saved and downloaded into other media such as Word documents, Google Docs, and also can be used for collaboration. Various designs allow learners to individualize their maps according to their needs.

    In my workshop, the participants will use this site to create a graphic organizer to help them organize their notes as they navigate the workshop. The mywebspiration site is strong on active processing (Mayer, 2009) as the user must take in the material and actively process it in order to produce the synthesis of the information in the form of a mindmap.

    Assignment, Module 3 - Xtranormal.com is a web-based presentation tool that allows the user to create a movie from text.  The site claims that, "if you can type, you can make movies."  Users are provided with 3D characters that are brought to life through adding content to their voices.  It uses a drag-and-drop animation system of editing.  Another advantage is you can follow this site from FaceBook or on Twitter.  One disadvantage is the recommended configuration is limited to Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista.

    Xtranormal was one of the featured websites in the programs for Module 3. It is a very easy to use website to create videos. I used it to create the directions for the pre-training activity. In order to create a video you simply type in your script, select your character, background, camera angles, and character movements. This text to speech website is an example of generative learning because it simplifies the expectations for the participants.

This tutorial became quickly less appealing when there was no sound and it was all text with nice visual effects. This site focused on behavioral activity because it used chunking to break down the parts of the tutorial into manageable sections. Participants are able to provide written, voice or video comments about the posted artifact. This is a collaborative, student-centered site that promotes cognitive processing of information. This artifact represents what Mayer (2009) calls dual coding, including both textual and visual components. Its unique ability to integrate voice comments and feedback inline during the presentation sets it apart from others as away to integrate the learning of many students. This ability to collaborate not only includes their website and an iOS application, but is also available through the phone. Each presentation can receive a phone number so students can leave comments in that way if their computer systems do not allow them to otherwise.

This particular online presentation program was much easier to use and access than many of the other programs that I viewed. The most notable function is the collaboration function that allows the sharing or co-creating of a mindmap. This organizer can be completed by the audience member pertaining to the presentation material in a manner that makes sense to them. I have even used it for some Walden assignments and feel it is user friendly and designed to promote collaboration.

    Bubbl.us is an online graphic organizer that allows one to arrange bubbles in a manner that illustrates relationships. Although it is online, you can export your graphic, print it directly from the application, or save it for future use. As a Flash-based application, Bubbl.us is not necessarily the perfect solution for all computer users, especially Apple users. However, the application overall is quite strong and useful, either as a trainer resource for organizing content, or as a participant resource, used as a means for them to take notes or organize the information they are presented.

I have used this site for all of my concept maps at Walden. It is easy to create and export as a jpg to be uploaded onto a web page, blog or wiki. It stores the working model on the site until it is deleted by the user.

    Bubbl.us is a site that allows users to create webs, or mind maps. A hierarchy is created by color-coding the bubbles on each level. The site allows collaboration, as well. Sheets can be shared with other people, who then have the ability to either view or edit the mind map, depending on the permission granted by the creator. Once completed, the mind map can be printed or exported as an image or an outline. This site can help encourage generative learning by providing a medium for learners to visualize connections between key terms and concepts. It is more user friendly that other similar sites. The ease of color coding and outline creation make it better than other sites, as well.

The site is easy to use and navigate which means that the user can be creating dynamic graphic organizers in little time. The site is free but does all for upgrades which allow the user more customization options. This site is better than Inspiration because it allows for the online component the user can share the graphic organizer with others and allow them the ability to manipulate or change the organizer or just view depending on the needs of the user.

    Assignment, Module 3 - Yodio.com is a free, web-based recording service where users can record from any microphone or cell phone to create a visual and audio podcast experience.  Users can synchronize their voice commentaries with photos to create media presentations and responses.  They can be shared, streamed through the Internet, or embedded in other websites and blogs.  In essence, it is an audio postcard.  Another advantage the site offers for classroom presentations is it allows you to toggle back and forth to full-screen mode.  One interesting note:  the name, Yodio, is derived from YOur auDIO.

    The topic of my multimedia Artifacts project is How to Utilize Multimedia to Create Effective Instructions. Robertson, et.al (2010) article on cognitive tools-emerging perspectives on learning and teaching, was definitively learner-centered approach to learning. Various multimedia artifacts such as PowerPoint Presentations, Notebook Online discussions, Teleconferences, Video streaming and Podcasting (LearnOutLoud.com) allow students to retrieve and identify information through learning situations that required the seeking of information. Information was presented in a meaningful and appropriate representation that supported the participants by allowing them to use technology tools to establish relationships among information by structuring or restructuring information and manipulating the information (p.1). Mayer's (2008) dual coding /dual channels is where participate take in information as visual (through the eyes) and the verbal channel which deals with processing sound,( spoken text ).
