    * Name of the site: Wordle * URL: http://www.wordle.net/ * Brief description of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: As the resource in Module 3 explained, this site allows you to create a word cloud by cutting and pasting text. * Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found (e.g., more effective, creates better products, easier to use, and so on): This was truly easy and worked on my Mac. Very simple to use.
  •
Name of the site: Wordle: a word cloud generating site Brief explanation of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: By accessing the Wordle site, participants can create a word cloud from the text I have provided via e-mail. The participants will be able to create a personal word cloud that will be shared with the group as a warm-up (pre-training) activity. By providing the site, participants will engage in generative learning that will be used as a means of collaboration. Brief explanation of why this site is better than others: I had not used a word cloud creation site prior to beginning this project, but found Wordle easy to access and use. I like that there are sample clouds to view prior to creating, but also found the site easy to navigate if participants are anxious and just want to begin creating. I also selected this type of pre-training to assist with motivating participants with something that can be easily integrated into their own classroom.
  •
On this site, the users are able to create word clouds to assist students with learning difficult concepts. The user simply copies and pastes the passage into the box, and the image is created for him. What are considered unimportant words, such as "the" and "and," are removed from the displayed work of art. I chose this site because it is really simple to use and free. Additionally, it was mentioned in the class video, and my curiosity led me to the site.
  •
This site would be a really good presentation to use in the Pre-Training of the workshop because the goal is to stress certain key words of importance.
  •
Brief description of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: If the pre-training is intended as more of a convincing factor then Wordle can be used to exhibit testimonials and phrases that illustrate the importance of the topic you are sharing. The visuals give meaning to the words you are speaking by various colors that can be used and even sizes. Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found (e.g., more effective, creates better products, easier to use, and so on): Extremely easy to use and easy to share! I have used this before as a warm-up activity for my AP students so I think it is great.
  •
You can create word clouds using Wordle. Use different fonts, colors, and shapes to emphasize key concepts. Easy to use and visually appealing.
  •
*Wordle http://www.wordle.net/ This site will allow me to have key words on the screen as the particiapnts enter the room. This site will allow me to make a word cloud, something that all the participants are familiar with becasue they use them with their students already. The font , sizes, and backgrounds can be changed to match the presrntaion theme. * I looked at another word clud generation site and this one offered offered more font and color styles and was easier to use. This site would also allow you to use a website URL to create a Word Clound where the other only allowed text.
  •
Wordle is a free online application used to generate clouds of words that can be given different visual formats, from any text chosen by the user. A simple, easier and motivating tool for pre-training.
  •
Wordle is a program for generating "word clouds" from text that you provide. The clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text.
  •
Takes user provided text, i.e. list of vocabulary words or a passage from a book, and creates a word cloud, highlighting significant words and provides a visual representation. Utilizing differing font sizes and colors this application site was chosen for its ease of use and the liklihood of focusing the learner on the key words/points of a lesson.
  •
This site is a great graphic organizer for kids. It is visually stimulating and kids like the fact that their creations are original. I would have teachers use Wordle to get kids engaged with dance vocabulary.
  •
Wordle is a site for generating word clouds. It can be used to introduce a topic, brainstorm ideas, or check for understanding. I have used the site before, and it allows students to become more involved in their work. I have also used Wordle to build synergy in groups. Some students, in the past, have created their own word clouds by using their inventive, artistic talents without the use of the software.
  •
With Wordle, a person can paste in the text they want to create a word cloud from and click "Go" to create it. The user has control over the fonts, colors, and shapes the word cloud takes. Wordle could be used to create a word cloud to peak participant interest in the topic of the workshop. For instance, I might choose to create a word cloud using text that describes what Web 2.0 is. Sharing that word cloud before my workshop would give my workshop participants a preview of what they will be learning about.  This site is easy to use and has received numerous positive reviews.
  •
pre-training can happen with word clouds
  •
This site allows you to create your own word clouds. This is a great way to get learners to engage using their own vocabulary terms for their lessons. This may even be a great way for the instructor to display vocabulary in the classroom.
  •
Wordle would be an effective pre-training tool. The web site allows the user to input text and generate a word cloud representing the key words within the text.
  •
This site allows you to create word clouds, as words are entered more and more the larger they become. This is valuable when you are trying to emphasize important key words in a lesson or lecture. It is extremely user friendly and can be applied to all content areas and grade levels. This can be used for an introduction or cumulatively over a period of time for reference.
  •
Word Clouds will allow for providing prior exposure to vocabulary in the presentation that participants may be unfamiliar with. I chose this website over other word cloud creating sites because of its capabilities to change its fonts, colors, and layout while highlighting the frequently used words in the text you provide. They also provide the ability to print, save, or share the word cloud images created.
  •
Description: Creates wordclouds that emphasize concepts and has advanced editing capabilities. Why better: It's free (several offer free trials only)
  •
    * Wordle is a "word cloud" generator from text that you provide giving greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. The clouds can be tweaked with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes, and the images can either be printed out or saved to the Wordle gallery to share with others online. Wordle can be used to introduce key vocabulary for a lesson or unit providing a visual of important terminology. * I found Wordle to be better than other "word cloud" websites I looked at because it is simple to use and there are many excellent examples created by others that are provided for ideas.
  •
o Wordle provides already established wordles or word maps around numerous topics. In addition, users can create their own customized wordles to demonstrate they have key understanding of a particular concept. To enhance generative learning, not only can students try to make sense of the concept but also work with others to compare wordless and discover other ways of viewing concepts, characters, books, and just about any topic being discussed. o Wordle provides an easy way to create wordles and instantly change format, colors, fonts, and look and feel.

ILife in the Classroom, University of Stevenson - 0 views

  •
This site was used as a guide to help educators learn about how ILife can be useful in the classroom. The way information is presented requires more cognitive activity than behavioral. The site seems to be more technology centered, because it focuses more on the technology itself. As Mayer (2009) suggests the this approach focuses more on the capabilities of the technology.

    * Name of the site: About.com: Presentation Software * URL: http://presentationsoft.about.com/od/powerpointadvanced/u/beyondbasics.htm * Brief description of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: This is as site that explains how to do more that the basics in PP. I like to have a "handbook" for reference, but I really do not want it in printed form so much as I want to be able to get quick answers. This site can serve as that. * Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found (e.g., more effective, creates better products, easier to use, and so on). It will allow me to improve my skills in multimedia presentation in PowerPoint.

Prezi is a web-based presentation tool using a map layout and zooming to show contextual relationships.

Although Prezi is advertised as a presentation device, it works really well to graphically present information, so I prefer it as a graphic organizer. Prezi provides a medium to allow words to flow, enabling the user to zoom in to information "hidden" as a subcategory within the main points. This is a very exciting new program, which I have gladly paid a subscription for! There remain some gltiches in publishing, such as to wordpress, or from the desktop application.
  •
Prezi allows a user to create a presentation that encompasses many of the same features of programs like PowerPoint. However, the presentation style of the elements follows more of a mind map design rather than a linear slideshow. The presentation tool is housed online, can be access for free, and makes it easy to integrate various forms of multimedia. The tools available at Prezi are advantageous for developing stylish online presentations and for facilitating continued review of materials, non-linear formats for reasoning, and building connections among concepts. Prezi can promote both essential and generative processing by allowing users/viewers to independently explore and develop connections among concepts.
  •
*Create slide presenations on the web. *Prezi makes slide sharing much more powerful as you are able to zoom in on specific areas of a slide for emphasis.
  •
Create presentations online. Import PPT or Keynote slides. Up to 1G for free
  •
This online presentation software allows multiple users a blank canvas to create dynamic presentations. I chose it because you can import slides from a slide show or a PowerPoint presentation and use its animation capabilities to easily create a more visually appealing presentation.
  •
Prezi is an online presentation creation site. The site allows you to create presentation that zoom in and out, include imported items, and the show the presentation on or offline. The creative potential is placed in the hands of the learner. This site was chosen over the others because it offers more features.
  •
Use Prezi to create professional quality presentations. Create maps of texts, images, videos, PDFs, drawings and present in a nonlinear way. Reuse images or the content of entire slides from easy to use galleries. You can access them from any computer and collaborate on a centralized web document.
  •
    * Brief description of Web site: A free cloud based presentation software that opens up a new world between whiteboards and slides and makes a presentation 'zoom.' *Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found: Besides the fact that this is a free resource, can create presentations to present online or offline, import various media (i.e. PowerPoint presentations, YouTube videos) into presentations, and collaborate in real time with other users.
  •
This is a great presentation tool, allowing user to create and share presentation online and offline. Prezi is one of the pest presentation tools I have found, as it allows the import of various multimedia materials, including PowerPoint slides, images, videos, pdf files. Also, it facilitates the creation of storylines using frames. The site also includes access to millions of prezis created by other users on various topics.
  •
Prezi (http://prezi.com/) allows the user to create a dynamic presentation using words, pictures, special relationships and movement to create an interactive presentation. Prezi's can be downloaded or saved on in the users account until the presentation. The user can also allow others to view their presentation or keep them private. Prezi is a free site in which interactive presentations are made possible. Prezi is much more dynamic than a PowerPoint presentation and as long as you have internet access you do not have to worry about the computer you are using having the same version of PowerPoint.
  •
This is an interesting take on PowerPoint. Presentations are organized by paths and an hierarchy of the size of the text entered.
  •
Unlike most presentation software, Prezi does a good job of organizing and sharing ideas, while drawing a clear connection between content. When explaining production elements it helps to be able to see the whole picture from script to distribution. Prezi offers the ability to focus on each part and zoom out to view the full picture.
  •
    * Prezi is a web based presentation tool similar to PowerPoint slides, except with a non-linear format that makes it fun to create and present ideas along with making connections between them. Prezi is also a tool for demonstrating new information to enhance the learning process along with providing mobile sharing and collaborative resources.
    * I found Prezi to be better than other presentation websites because it is more effective at creating engaging presentations and works from any device with Internet browsing capabilities, which will enhance the possibilities for teachers in my workshop to utilize different mobile devices during my presentation.
  •
What it is: Prezi is an online presentation software that allows collaboration among multiple users to create unique multimedia presentations. Why it's better: Instead of a traditional slide presentation, Prezi provides a platform to create presentations that are as creative as each individual user. Images, sounds, videos, and text can all be mixed together to create the most effective presentation possible.
  •
Prezi is a presentation tool that can either be created online or offline. It offers collaboration among users and has zoom features to highlight information. Presentations can be viewed from a desktop, iPad, or iPhone. One way that Prezi can be used for essential learning is to segment a presentation to make it learner-paced. This website offers a better product for keeping learners engaged.

Showbeyond http://www.showbeyond.com Showbeyond is a resource that I came across while I was teaching my journalism students how to create a photo essay. Even though I just randomly stumbled across this resource it has proven to be a wonderfully simple to use slide cast program. Slide casts are an online multimedia format that combines and synchronizes slideshows with podcasts. I have found this format perfect for online story telling as well as online presentations. I think Showbeyond is a resource more fit for middle and high school students and educators. Showbeyond allows students and educators to design and create multimedia presentations easily and quickly. Showbeyond is a resource that lets you select and manipulate photos and text to create a visual presentation which you can add podcasts, music, and videos to. I chose Showbeyond because I don't think you can find a more accessible multimedia to create simple presentations on. I say simple because Showbeyond is not capable of some the more advanced features such as animation and timed slides like PowerPoint and MovieMaker are capable of. However, I do use Showbeyond in my classroom often and my students really enjoy the products that they can create.

Brief description of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: This site is intended more for the business purpose of mindmaps and flowcharts so the created products are more professional looking. Once again free to any user, this site allows easy sharing and collaborating. Audience members can easily create a mindmap that reflects the knowledge they are gaining or shared easily by the presenter. Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found (e.g., more effective, creates better products, easier to use, and so on): I prefer this site because of its professionalism and the fact that it is free.

Like the Khan videos, this site offers videos for lessons for students. Unlike Khan, this site offers videos on all topics including language arts, history, foreign language, art, and more. For teachers who do not have time to create videos, this free source could help them to integrate more multimedia learning into the classroom.

Bubbl.us - 2 views

Brief description of what it allows you to do and how it can be used for essential or generative learning: This site is awesome for creating mindmaps using a software that runs on multiple platforms and is adjustable when viewed. The most notable function is the collaboration function that allows the sharing or co-creating of a mindmap. This organizer can be completed by the audience member pertaining to the presentation material in a manner that makes sense to them. Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found (e.g., more effective, creates better products, easier to use, and so on): I have used this with my students and received positive feedback. I have even used it for some Walden assignments and feel it is user friendly and designed to promote collaboration.

Bubbl.us is a mind-mapping product aimed towards literally anyone who needs help organizing their thoughts or any untidy information. This site promotes generative learning because it helps participants organize ideas for future learning. I selected this site because it makes it easy for you to quickly start planning and sorting out their ideas through the use of linked text bubbles.
  •
bubbl.us https://bubbl.us/ With this site the participants as well as the instructor can create a mind map. This will be a good for the generative learning becasue the participants would be actively involved in the process. I like this site becasue the mind maps are very easy to create and they are simple in design. Simplicity for the primary teachers is always a plus, because they like to use the infomation with their students as well.
  •
Simple, Flash-based site that lets users create online graphic organizers. The site is at the generative level, providing little in the way of instructional information and focusing on the application. The site is very intuitive to use, although not feature-rich. It does allow for sharing and collaboration with other users.
  •
Bubbl.us - This website allows the user to create graphic organizers that can be saved on the site. The user can have up to three different GOs at t time for free. It is very simple to use and I have used it with my gifted second graders before and they picked up on it quickly. It has the option to change to colors of the "bubbles"and change the font of the text. The completed mind map can be printed or exported to another site to share with others.
  •
Bubbl.us is a relatively easy and free online graphic organizer. The site allows the user to create a mindmap, concept map, or other graphic organizer. The user can easily create new parent and child bubbles allow a hierarchical organization to the ideas in the concept map. The advantage of bubbl.us is that it is free.
  •
A place for graphic organizer creation with a group or by yourself.
  •
Bubbl.us allows users to create mind maps that can then be shared in documents or on the Web. It can be used before a workshop to create a blank or partially filled in graphic organizer for participants to fill in as the workshop progresses, which would help them to pay attention to the content being presented. Personally, I have found this tool easy and fun to use. In fact, I used it to create the graphic organizer for the workshop I am creating.
  •
This interactive site allows users to create mindmaps and graphic organizers online that can be shared with others, saved to files, and exported to the web. This site allows users to collaborate with one another on the mind map or graphic organizer. It is fully customizable and very simple to use. The site offers a quick tutorial for users looking for guidance before they get started, but it is so easy to use that many users would not need to use the tutorial before getting started.
  •
A free user-friendly mind mapping tool.
  •
Bubbl.us is an online graphic organizer that allows one to arrange bubbles in a manner that illustrates relationships. Although it is online, you can export your graphic, print it directly from the application, or save it for future use. As a Flash-based application, Bubbl.us is not necessarily the perfect solution for all computer users, especially Apple users. However, the application overall is quite strong and useful, either as a trainer resource for organizing content, or as a participant resource, used as a means for them to take notes or organize the information they are presented.
  •
This site allows you to create up to 3 pages for free of mind maps. The easy to use set-up uses icons to demonstrate its repetitive yet graphic portrayal of content. I have used this site for all of my concept maps at Walden. It is easy to create and export as a jpg to be uploaded onto a web page, blog or wiki. It stores the working model on the site until it is deleted by the user.
  •
Explanation: Allows users to create a graphic organizer with a web-based tool requiring no download. Easy-to-use and results are good quality. Reasoning: Since this site is web-based, it makes using it very easy and accessible to anyone regardless of their operating system. In addition, creation of the graphic organizer is straightforward and requires little support. Embeddable into websites.
  •
    * Brief description of Web site: A free web 2.0 tool that enables users to create mind mapping and brainstorming diagrams online. The application is Flash-based so the latest Flash viewer needs to be installed. * Brief explanation of why you found this site to be better than others you found: Besides the fact that this is a free resource, this tool is easy to use. It offers a Help menu to assist users in getting started with using the tool.
  •
Bubbl.us is an online site that allows you to create colorful mind maps.  It is completely free to use and extremely user friendly. The mind maps can be shared in a variety of ways and can also be used in all content areas in most grade levels.
  •
Bubbl.us is a site that allows users to create webs, or mind maps. A hierarchy is created by color-coding the bubbles on each level. The site allows collaboration, as well. Sheets can be shared with other people, who then have the ability to either view or edit the mind map, depending on the permission granted by the creator. Once completed, the mind map can be printed or exported as an image or an outline. This site can help encourage generative learning by providing a medium for learners to visualize connections between key terms and concepts. It is more user friendly that other similar sites. The ease of color coding and outline creation make it better than other sites, as well.
  •
This website allows for the creation of mind maps with added features to create, delete, and change the color, text size, format, and location of 'bubbles'. Hyperlinks can also be added to bubbles to link to outside information. These features will be helpful to provide important information outside of the basic connections shown through the graphic organizer. It is easy to use, edit, and share for mind mapping and sharing gained knowledge throughout the workshop.
  •
Bubble.us (https://bubbl.us/) is a great site to build graphic organizers in. The site allows the user to download, print, save and share them online with others. The site is easy to use and navigate which means that the user can be creating dynamic graphic organizers in little time. The site is free but does all for upgrades which allow the user more customization options. This site is better than Inspiration because it allows for the online component the user can share the graphic organizer with others and allow them the ability to manipulate or change the organizer or just view depending on the needs of the user.
  •
Participants will be given a Bubble graphic organizer with the agenda for the workshop. During the workshop they can refer to the agenda and add comments in the Bubble program. This program is easy to use and will also allow participants to familiarize themselves with a potential classroom tool.
  •
Description: Creates mindmaps with color coding and connections, enhancing brainstorming exercises.  Why better: Mindmaps are embeddable and downloadable for sharing.
  •
A free, web-based graphic organizer. It is easy to use and share. I am using this as a way to organize the workshop and provide a visual for the teachers to have and understand the goals/timeline of the training.
  •
Bubble.us is an online mind map that allows users to collaborate on brainstorming. Users can share their mindmap with others and provide access to read or edit. As content is added the mindmap takes on a new shape and cells can be color coded. Another feature of bubbl.us is for users to import work that has been saved on their computer or embed their mindmap. Bubbl.us can be used for pre-training which supports essential learning. I found this site to be more useful for collaborativebrainstorming .

Graphic Organizer / Mind Mapping Tools: wisemapping - 0 views

  •
The wisemapping site offers a free online tool for creating graphic organizers / mind maps similar to those created by webspiration. However, wisemapping provides excellent file export functionality saving as .jpg, .png, .pdf, and other file formats. Also of interest are collapsible / expandable branches that could facilitate a gradual introduction of topics in a live lesson, as well as the ability to include notes, Web links, and a variety of icons in each node as needed. While much of the formatting options are present, as compared to webspiration, some items are not as robust. With more time, however, the functionality may rival or surpass webspiration or other products. In the mean time, the saving functionality, branching without termination nodes (use a line instead), and collapsibility are features that may prove more useful than comparable tools. Considering essential cognitive processing, the tool may assist with selecting and organizing complex material in order to reach a generative processing state. This may be possible by presenting information in a keyed and organized approach, which is a central premise of most mind mapping software.

It references and provides links to examples as well as excerpts to his Toolbox. This article goes into more detail as to the "why" Authentic Assessment is a preferred method to demonstrate meaningful application of essential knowledge and skills, whereas the Toolbox focuses more the "how".

Twiducate is a safer, more school-friendly version of Twitter. It is used in much the same way as Twitter in terms of status updates and the uploading of pictures and videos, but the content is much more controlled. Twiducate can be used to stay in contact with workshop participants and students, providing them with a forum for asking questions and getting updates on the workshop or class. This site will meet the need to communicate that workshop participants and students have while keeping them from having to deal with the negative content often found on Twitter.

Brief Description: Google docs is a website that allows more than one individual construct and critique documents despite their distance. Google docs allow groups to create a spreadsheet, drawing, presentation, documents and forms asynchronously or synchronously. Brief Explanation: Google docs is a great website to use because it is easier to use, saves the documents, and allow group members to work on the document even without their group members there. Also no one can erase the information from the document due to the fact that an invitation is required in order to have contact with the document.

This site allows you to generate interactive mindmaps that help organize thoughts and ideas into great visual representations. It is easy to create, to meanipulate, and to edit. You are able to collaborate on the map with others and you canmake the map public or share with select audiences.

I recently discovered Spinscape, which is a mindmapping webtool that can be used to create a graphic organizer. It has so many features wrapped into one application. Some of the features that I would find helpful in using Spinscape are the ability to insert links, widgets to post Youtube video, notes, attachments and even tasks for managing a project. Spinscape also offers numerous different views such as the classic bubbles, compact, wiki and farmland styles. The ability to put in tags also makes this a useful tool to help locate information. This definitely is a more visually appealing and more multi-functional than some of the other mindmaps that I have seen, but it is significantly more difficult to navigate and use. It exports the files in multiple formats (HTML, PDF, Word), but not in JPEG. I would really love to use this tool for my presentation, but I will probably not because of the cost. I have been using my 7 day trial membership to explore and it will be expired by the time that I do my workshop.

Previously submitted this website for consideration. The sign-in features include using your Yahoo, Google, and Facebook accounts (most middle schools students have at least 2 of these accounts) as well as the ability to embed widgets(youtube) into the mind map.

Spinscape is a graphic organizer that allows for images, hyperlinks, and collaboration. As a tool used for organizing material, it can help students focus on the important elements of the course. I believe the most important element of this tool is the potential for the effective use of collaboration among students using images and hyperlinks.

This is a collaborative mind mapping resource. It is used to work together to find and share information on any subject. It can be used in real time with users around the world to create collaborative mind maps on any topic. This site provides tutorials for users to learn about the various features that can be utilized within the program. I think this site is the best resource for mind-mapping because of the real time collaborative element and the ability to find a variety of pre-created mind maps.

Spinscape is not only a great tool as a graphic organizer to find, organize, and share information, but it also allows for real time collaboration with peers from around the world. I like this website over other similar sites because you can add text, images, or graphics to expand on the information provided within the graphic organizer.
