Whether you're out sick or have a planned day out of the computer lab, writing sub plans is time consuming and often stressful. Technology teachers have a unique set of challenges to consider when deciding what to leave for a sub. This blog post will hopefully give you some solid ideas and peace of mind for the next time you need to be out. I have this other blog post about Technology Tools for Sub Plans with ideas and tools to help your sub be more comfortable using technology. Today's post is going to assume you have a substitute who is not comfortable using or teaching technology. You can skip right to idea #3 if your substitute cannot use any technology. I just wanted to have this and post it in case our/your state needs facemasks during this health crisis. It's a way to support our brave doctors, nurses and supporting staff in the hospitals without leaving your home.

Sometimes, it seems the class you are teaching is more than you can cope with. The truth is all teachers face times like this. The sad part is that many good teachers decide that the best move for them in these times is to leave the profession; a trend we need to fix.

The best inspirational movies leave an indelible impression on the viewer. In this selection I've chosen 35; from Oscar winners to cult favorites, they're worthy of anyone's DVD collection. In an attempt to avoid this list being cliché, I've picked films you may not have seen before, and ones which may have slipped from your memory. As a result, you won't find certain well known films below, such as Schindler's List, Forrest Gump, and Shawshank Redemption. The exceptional films on offer should, hopefully, make up for it!

Our students have been doing BHP for over a year. We have started with our second cohort this year. The scope and support for practical days is fantastic. The students love it and so do our teachers. When staff and students finish a practical day they are so elated with their work, that nobody leaves on the bell...everyone is still evaluating the day.

"I went shopping at 8 o'clock one evening in my local supermarket (one of the German chains) and was chatting to the man on the checkout who was moaning about his job and his employer. He says he has to work very long hours (tonight he was going to finish at 1:00am) - longer than his contract says he should; he gets paid for the hours he works but only at standard hours. He doesn't like some of the jobs, they are not really his responsibility but they have to be done. There is a union but they don't seem to be very helpful. His bosses don't always seem to consider the consequences of their actions - the manager was leaving as I was being served and commented that he'd left two bags of garbage on a till further along and they would need moving in a bit. The man serving was the only person on the tills and he said that between customers (there weren't many at this time of the evening) he had to move the garbage and clean all of the tills then when the store closed he needed to work at changing stock and stacking shelves. As the manager left he turned and said, "I asked Matt if he could stay and help you but he gave an unequivocal no!""
