      I'm not sure of the cost but this could be another alternative to smartboards.  The document camera would be REALLY beneficial and save in cost because teachers will not have to keep photocopying transparencies.

    I use a Mimio pad: it is awesome. I observed a demonstration at NSTA conference of document camera and I think it also includes a microscope attachment. The whole system seems phenomenal.

    It's a great system, and it's cheaper than a SMARTboard. I had one at my previous workplace. If I recall correctly, you can even use SMARTexchange activities with the mimio.

      The subscription for schools is sooo worth the money. The notebook feature is incredible and allows the user to practically write the paper as s/he takes notes. Awesome!

      How about teach them how to cite? Easybib is like the kid in the group who doesn't always do the best work. It's a good resource, but our students must learn to be smarter than an algorithm.

    You should try Poetry Genius for this. It is an amazing and growing app: http://genius.com/tags/poetry It's a place where you post your poem and your students can annotate in real-time. You can restrict it to just your class, or you can open it up to the community. They also have Literature Genius with some awesome pages (so far I have looked at Hawthorne and O'Connor--but there are a ton more http://lit.genius.com/.

    Awesome activity! Interesting to teach in so many contexts: poetry, economy of words, even censorship - a different take on it. Also meshes perfectly with the novel catch 22 and Yosarrian censoring the letters.
