"The process of creating and publishing videos can be a great way to get students excited about researching, storytelling, and sharing their work with an audience. For teachers who have never facilitated video creation projects in their classrooms, choosing the right style of video and the right tools can be a bit confusing at first. Allows the user to download videos from a variety of sites, such as YouTube, and save them on the desktop. Would be very useful for projects with students. Note: please be aware of copyrights when using Internet videos.

This set of videos from TeachingChannel has observation exercises that would be useful for teacher-training, or self-training. There is a note-taking worksheet downloadable in the Supporting Materials, and Questions to Consider as you watch the video. This is a nice exercise, and also includes a Think Aloud activity.

R. Byrne: "A featured resource on MoMA Learning is this video containing five tips for teaching with works of art. The video not only lists the tips, it contains examples of using these tips to teach art history and art appreciation lessons to students." Most of the great art museums and natural history museums of the world have websites with instructional materials of very high quality. It's worth some time to explore what they offer and figure out how to adapt their resources for your classes. One of the other excellent resources on MoMA Learning is this glossary of art terms. In many cases the definitions in the glossary contain links to multiple examples of each term. Download a small app and record videos of your screen for training others. (See Jing.) I haven't tried this one, but it seems to have a helpful series of Help videos.

aTube lets you download videos from social websites like Google and YouTube, and also to extract audio tracks. Free.

"Plays on most smart phones. Video mails up to 10 minutes. Video stored up to 365 days. No account or downloads." This would e fun for students to use to practice speaking and presentations. Especially good because there is no sign-in.

Teacher training video by R. Stannard: "This set of videos will give you a full introduction into using JING which is a free screen capture tool from a company called Techsmith. If you are interested in learning about screen capture and you are looking for a FREE tool then JING is a great place to start. It can be used in a huge range of different ways." Stannard provides tips on how you and your students can use screen capture in various ways. JING is free and easy to use.

Free, downloadable video editor for Win PCs. Purportedly more simple than Windows Movie Maker, and has the capacity to work with Flash and mobile phone clips.

Byrne's blog on this site for digital safety: "The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre hosts an excellent resource for helping students learn how to be responsible digital citizens. ThinkUKnow offers videos, games, and lessons for students ages five through sixteen. The site is divided into five sections; 5-7, 8-10, 11-16, a section for parents, and a section for teachers. The 5-7 section of ThinkUKnow feature a cartoon video series titled Hector's World. Hector's World is designed to educate students about safe use of the Internet and computers in general. Through the cartoons students learn about things like protecting their personal information and asking a trusted adult for help when necessary. Each episode of Hector's World is accompanied by a coloring book that you can download as a PDF."
