Claims to have "All the words in the world pronounced by native speakers." If you ask for a word to be pronounced, another user will pronounce it for you. You are asked to help by recording your own native speaker pronunciation. Looks like an interesting use of social media.

" Reading plays aloud might be an interesting way to get your students into pronunciation. Some plays may also be recorded so students can listen and compare. The menu selects by age/grade level and type.

This site allows you to practice speaking with any video (previews, ads, short clips) listed on the site. A speech recognition platform awards a score on how well your pronunciation matches that modeled in the video clip. Has quite a few categories, e.g., business, daily life, news & politics, technology, etc. So you can practice in specific subject areas.

This site, The Blues Maker, as described by Nik Peachey, lets the user create his/her own blues tune, and as Nik points out, is an excellent way to improve listening skills, vocabulary, and pronunciation. The 10 steps are an excellent project to help students begin to learn more about this type of American (and now international) music.

Stannard gives a quick overview of http://www.rhymes.net, which helps you find words that rhyme with other words. But he doesn't mention that the site speaks the word too! There are also many other tools, such as a dictionary, words with multi-syllables, quotations using the word, phrases, abbreviations, etc. Great for vocabulary work, pronunciation, and writing poetry.

Listen to speakers from all over the world while reading a phonemic transcript of what they say. Looks as if it were developed for researchers, but it might be very useful for advanced learners who are studying pronunciation and accent reduction. Wouldn't be appropriate for beginning learners.

Free! ESL Video uses video from around the Web (e.g. The Daily English Show), and attaches short quizes on the content, pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. You can choose videos by level (beginning to high-intermediate), and track results of student quizzes. You can also make your own quizzes with video you select from the Web!

Uses free articles on CNN to create new lessons every day. pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar are included.

R. Stannard: "This tool allows students to create sound files and then the teacher or other students can listen, click on the sound wave and add comments. So it is great for providing feedback as teachers can listen to the recordings and then click at the appropriate point and add comments regarding language, intonation, content or pronunciation."

Very short videos--36 sec--may be good for low level students to practice initial speaking/listening. Also has apps for various smart phones. Might be good for a quite pronunciation quiz, for example. The teacher can then send back a short video message with corrections, modeling, etc.

A video on how to use Keek to make and share short video messages. Although limited to only 36 secs, this might be a good application for beginning learners, or for a quick pronunciation quiz (you will see who is taking that quiz!) You can also embed a finished recording in your blog or wiki, as well as sending it by email. A good way to have students create a short, practiced conversation. Also has smartphone apps for mobile recordings, RSS feed to follow, and links to Facebook, Yahoo, and Twitter.

Some ideas and resources. Literature is a good way to engage ELLs, even if at first the language seems hard. His language is so much a part of the English-speaking world's culture that Shakespeare has to be included. And it's required, usually in high school. Learning short passages and performing them is a great activity and will help with pronunciation, too.

This site has added more videos and seems a great way to get additional English pract.

Make a sentence by arranging the words and then it's read by native speakers, one person per word. You can then save and embed in a blog or Website. Fun, but may not give much help with intonation, elision, and the finer points of pronunciation.

Very useful for somewhat more advanced learners to study individual sounds as well as stress and intonation in the supra-segmentals.

Extensive series of podcasts on English phonemes; practice in minimal pairs, useful situational phrases, e.g., how to give service in a resturant, etc.
