Free Technology for Teachers: MoMA Presents Five Tips for Teaching With Works of Art - 0 views

  •
    R. Byrne: "A featured resource on MoMA Learning is this video containing five tips for teaching with works of art. The video not only lists the tips, it contains examples of using these tips to teach art history and art appreciation lessons to students." Most of the great art museums and natural history museums of the world have websites with instructional materials of very high quality. It's worth some time to explore what they offer and figure out how to adapt their resources for your classes. One of the other excellent resources on MoMA Learning is this glossary of art terms. In many cases the definitions in the glossary contain links to multiple examples of each term. History Journeys: American History Resource - The Denver Post Photo Blog - 0 views

A social studies teacher shares American history images. May prove useful for content-based projects and the study of American culture. "American History Resource - The Denver Post Photo Blog "As a social studies teacher I am always looking for new resources to to bring into the classroom. We can no longer rely on notes and a text book as our primary learning tools. The internet has provided teachers with new resources and new opportunities to change the way history is taught and learned. Every month I come across new sources of photographs, documents, and videos that help to enhance the learning experience. One of my favorite recent discoveries has been the The Denver Post photo blog, or Plog as it is called. The Plog is a terrific resource of photographs and information about a wide variety of historical topics which I have covered here, here, and here in my other blog. From the Statue of Liberty, to the inauguration, then the Great Depression, and the Berlin Wall, the Denver Post's Photo Blog is one resource that I highly recommend you explore."

"Mapping History contains hundreds animated and interactive maps from key events in the history's of the United States, Europe, Latin America, and Africa. The U.S. maps are sorted chronologically and by event or era. The European maps section is categorized more by topic and appears to be still under construction. The Latin America section is sorted into three regions (Caribbean, Central America, South America) and there are four African maps, each one shows the continent's division and political borders at various points of history. Mapping History is an excellent resource for the social studies classroom. Thanks out to Greg Odell who shared this site on Twitter." Great for project- or content-based projects.

Learning Never Stops: Timelines - Learn, Collaborate, Discover History - 2 views

  •
"Timelines is a site where history meets social media. The website itself is very useful by categorizing key historical events in several ways. You can browse the site by era, type of event (ie; war), or by date. They have a neat page where you simply select a date and the events that occurred on that date appear. Almost everything you find on Timelines is created by their community and registered users can record events and contribute descriptions, photos, videos and links related to events. Unlike a wiki, the site is built to display various (and potentially conflicting) descriptions of the same event from many different contributors which is always important when trying to understand historical events. Timelines is a great site because it allows you to report and discover history with your friends, colleagues, and students." from Learning Never Stops Blog

Learning Never Stops: Awesome History Themed Music Videos - 0 views

"History is so often seen as boring and meaningless to students who can't grasp why they need to learn about events and people from the past. These two music videos from Soomo Publishing have high production value and utilize current pop music songs with a historical twist on the lyrics. The first one is about the Declaration of Independence and uses One Republic's Too Late to Apologize. The focus of the second video is women's suffrage and it uses Lady Gaga's Bad Romance to tell this important story." Maybe these could be a model for student-created videos.

"The Public Domain Review could be a great place to find historical media to use in history lessons, literature lessons, and art history lessons. If you're looking for colorful imagery to use as filler or backgrounds in slide presentations, the collections on The Public Domain Review are probably not your best bet. In that case, I would look to Pixabay for images that are in the public domain. " Collections include short descriptions of the significance of the media. T/H R. Byrne
