    We are hoping this list will be helpful to ESL/EFL teachers, who will in turn contribute interesting links to the project.

    Tagging is really important to creating a useful, searchable database. Please read these over and make any suggestions for additions, edits, etc.

    This is a list of suggested tags, but please feel free to continue using those you are familiar with. Of importance: PLEASE ADD VSL as a tag to anything you put into this list. Also, I have created several LISTS that you can select as you bookmark with the Diigo bar. Someone could then go immediately to a list to see related sites.

    You will notice a lot of overlap in these tags--better too many than too few, so people can cross-reference in different ways.

    SUGGESTED TAGS

    adult-ed = research articles or sites with a focus on pedagogy for adult learners
    adult_learners = sites with activities for US grades 6-12 (ages 12-17), community college, immigrant students, adult beginners
    academic = secondary school, college and university students, academic subjects (usually at more advanced levels of language study)
    activities = sites where students can engage directly in drills, video-making, tests, exercises, etc.
    content-based = content focused ESL/EFL sites; generally more academic content, e.g., the sciences, history, etc. (specify the content area)
    culture = sites with activities relating to culture clash, conflict resolution, cross-cultural understanding, etc.
    listening
    literacy = very basic beginner, e.g., learning the alphabet
    speaking
    reading
    writing
    vocabulary
    grammar
    other_languages = sites with support in one or more languages besides English; bilingual ed sties
    teacher = sites and tools that serve as aids to lesson prep (e.g., TeacherTube); sites that deal with pedagogy, particularly with a practical focus
    testing = test makers, rubric makers, and other kinds of evaluative instruments; sites where students can be tested online
    thinking = sites with a cognitive learning focus, or with brain-teaser activities
    literature = sites where literature may be read or written, including poetry
    history
    science [we might want to divide this up into different sciences]
    programming = applications that teachers might use to create exercises or activities for students, e.g., Hot Potatoes, RubiStar, Survey Monkey; places to download programming languages or learn how to use them, how to write HTML
    tools = applications, either online or downloadable that are used, for example, to record (like Audacity or PodOmatic), to write (like Google Docs or Open Office), to make videos (like Movie Maker), to draw illustrations (like Gliffy), etc. Both students and teachers might use these for different purposes. [We might want to further divide this category.]
    young_learners = sites appropriate for preK-6 (ages 3-12; please specify age range if appropriate for a particular group
    project-based = sites where extended project-based learning is supported,
    e.g., WebQuest.
    pedagogy = research in ways to teach; practical approaches
    research = general theoretical research; quantitative and qualitative studies
    publisher-demo = many publisher sites have a demonstration lesson from their software available online to try
    games = sites that have labguage-learning games to play online
    virtual reality = sites like Second Life
    video = sites that use video for instruction; lesson plans for video projects for students; research in video use for language instruction
    digital images = sites where digital images can be used for lessons or to store student productions; sites using Powerpoint presentations
    sounds = including music
