"The following example is a piece of work about simplifying algebraic fractions that illustrates the value of student explanations. The task was to make a video explaining how to simplify the three fractions below, complete with full explanations. No training was given on how to do this, and no apps were recommended. This was my first attempt at asking this particular group of students to create a video. It follows that after years of simply writing down answers and them either being right or wrong, several students decided to assume that I was joking with this task and simply handed me in a copy of the answers. Job done. Or was it Wolfram Alpha's job done? Anyway, here is what a few responses to the task looked like"

There are many tools... (explanation to be completed...) There is a tension between following many people to broaden your information pool and being overwhelmed with the flow of tweets. It's an individual decision on how many to follow - why not start small and experiment? Most teachers prefer to network with other educators, but there is great value in having a diverse set of people to follow within Twitter. "Bloom's Taxonomy is a useful tool for assessment design, but using it only for that function is like using a race car to go to the grocery-a huge waste of potential. In an upcoming post we're going to look at better use of Bloom's taxonomy in the classroom, but during research for that post it became interesting how many variations there are of the original work. While a handful of the charts below only show aesthetic changes compared to others, most are concept maps of sorts-with graphic design that signifies extended function (power verbs), detail (clear explanations), or features of some sort (Bloom's Taxonomy tasks by level)."

"Learning through inquiry is not a new concept - at all. Much of the more general life- learning that we do as humans is based on inquiry.
