I like this article, time is of the essence when it comes to all of these tools.

I will give Zoho a look. We use google docs at my school now. Each staff member and student was given an account with the same extension. With so many sites to choose from it takes time to see which ones you lke. Google docs seems to show up in many articles.
  •
Zoho Writer looks interesting as you need to be invited to participate. Google Docs are used extensively within our school, though I only used them for our NGY Ning project last year. We also use Google Docs for attendance in our after school programs.

Create research papers using Google Doc's research pane. - 6 views

  •
Google has outdone themselves again. Google docs has just added the ability to open a research pane directly within your document. Find information, cite your sources, and add pictures without ever really leaving your document. Great tool for teachers who want to make researching easier for students.

Free Technology for Teachers: HOTTS (Higher Order Thinking/Technology Skills) - Guest Post - 4 views

  • Here are some of the ways we have been using free technology in our school to help students reach each level of Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy.
  • One of the best tools we have put in our students’ hands to help them reach the remembering and understanding level is Diigo.
  • Examples of tools that students can use include Prezi, Glogster, Powerpoint, Skype, Google Apps, iPhoto, iMovie, Flickr,
  • ...4 more annotations...
  • Forms and Wordle provide our students with opportunities to analyze information instantly and in a uniquely visual way.
  • Our 8th grade algebra class has used Google Forms to collect data related to homework performance and group project performances.
  • The most common way that I see our teachers reaching the evaluating level with our students is through blogging and Voicethread.
  • Finally, one of the best examples of the creating level that I have seen is students producing videos.

This blog post describes the Web 2.0 tools that are being used in the author's school to help students reach each level of Bloom's Taxonomy.

How Educators and Schools Can Make the Most of Google Hangouts - 1 views

  •
What Is a "Hangout?" A Hangout is a web-based tool created by Google for communicating through video. Up to ten people can "hang out" at one time in a virtual "room." A Hangout can be as simple or as complex as needed. It can be used simply to converse or, through the use of extra apps and add-ons that Google provides, a Hangout can become a virtual meeting space.

100+ Google Tricks for Teachers - 2 views

  •
This article provides (as it says) over 100 different tips on how to use Google as a search engine in a way that can get you around blocked websites, or to glean search results that are refined to what you are specifically looking for. I included this article as it seems useful when building a blog, to structure search links and topic links in a way that will result in the consumer of the blog obtaining the content they are looking for. As the article begins, time is precious. As an educator, I need my time in class (and outside if class) to be structured in a way where I can access information easily and quickly and teach students to do so as well. These 102 tips for how to use Google are the tools in the toolbag I believe are necessary to bring this need to fruition. As stated above, the relevance to Blogs is providing useful tips on the Blog for users to utilize to refine searches and yield more meaningful results. These "tricks" would also serve well for a Blog on how to search the Internet!

Collaborative learning with Pen.io - 7 views

  •
The author shares a new collaborative tool, Pen.io, which can be used by students to create a working portfolio and can be shared, published and owned. Although it is similar to google docs, the author likes it better for its simplicity, the ownership status it provides, its content-focused nature and the control it allows over who can edit it.
  •
Great tool. And, yes it is easier to use than Google Docs. Of course "easier" means fewer features, but it also means more simplicity. Plus, with a few HTML basics there is more you can do than with G-Docs.
  •
This is exactly what I am looking for to complement some of my online courses. Items such as safety contracts need signatures and require the tedious use of a scanner or fax machine. This Pen.io would be a great acessory to make these types of task very simple and personal. Unlike google docs it provides much more controls over many items.

School Tool: Popplet Fuses Collaboration, Bookmarking, and Mindmapping | EdSurge News - 2 views

  •
A new tool discovery! Looks like an interesting combination of some apps we just "mastered"
  •
We use it with 5th and 6th grade! The only drawback that I see is that it connects to Flickr for images and not google which limits that feature. It does also connect to You Tube for educational videos, however. The kids use it quite easily. I like it.

"...you can now sort your search results by readability. The readability index is a bit coarse, but it is helpful none-the-less. The index use a simple ranking of "basic," "intermediate," and "advanced."

Checkthis - 1 views

  •
Super easy way to publish and share content. It differs from blogs because it produces single pages not linked to each other. It is not a series of posts. Think of it as a single piece of paper that can include multimedia. Once out of beta, no accounts will be needed which will be great for the educational setting. Students can create projects with text, multimedia and widgets such as Google maps. Pages are then published and a URL is generated for the page which can be shared.
