L'internet des objets a besoin d'un réseau cellulaire dédié | L'Atelier: Disr... - 0 views

  •

FCC unveils plan to expand broadband access - 0 views

  •
"Declaring expansion of broadband Internet access the nation's next great infrastructure challenge, federal regulators on Monday unveiled an ambitious, decade-long strategy to make super high-speed connections available in every corner of the country. The plan by the Federal Communications Commission sets a goal of making sure at least 100 million homes have affordable access to networks that allow them to download data from the Internet at speeds of at least 100 megabits per second - at least 20 times faster than what most people get today. The proposal, which will be sent to Congress, also seeks to put ultra-fast Internet access of 1 gigabit per second in public facilities such as schools, hospitals and government buildings in every community."

Introducing the NEW WISP Directory - 0 views

  •
This is a combined National Service Area map for Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISP's) to the best of our knowledge. Coverage shown is an approximation based mostly upon zip code data for the home office of record and/or zip codes reported by the independent wireless network operators. These networks are fixed wireless operations and not part of the cellular mobile data networks. A large part of this information is compiled from records on the WISP Directory web site. To add your WISP information and zip code data, log in to the Wisp Directory and create an account.

Wireless broadband a priority for administration - News - Nextgov - Nextgov.com - 0 views

  •
Expanding wireless broadband coverage to 98 percent of Americans remains a key priority for the Obama administration in its fiscal year 2013 budget proposal. To help do this, President Obama has proposed a boost in funding for the Federal Communications Commission and the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Administration, two agencies leading an effort to increase the availability of spectrum needed to help expand wireless broadband to most Americans. Some of this new spectrum would come from empowering the FCC authority to auction off spectrum wheedled out of broadcasters.

The Global Internet Phenomena Report: 1H 2012 shines a light on fixed and mobile data networks around the world,  identifying facts, fads, and the future trends that will shape the Internet's future. Within this report, we present a  mix of high-level observations, regional-focused analysis, deep-dives into specific subjects, and educational tidbits.   Communications service providers (CSPs) in particular are in the position to act on this information, but we believe  that the findings will be of interest to a wide range of readers.

Trends: The evolution of broadband - 1 views

  •
Most top-tier network service providers have reported their Q1 2012 results, and we've seen the same trends continue from previous quarters: Legacy voice services from traditional providers continue to decline in favor of wireless substitution and replacement by digital (VoIP) services. Cable companies continue to see a net gain for digital voice, although the growth rate continues to be in the slow single digits; much of this net growth is driven by small businesses converting to VoIP.

The Great Bandwidth Brawl - Technology Review - 0 views

  •
Networks are not in danger of running out of capacity just yet. Carriers have spent large sums buying up rights to the radio spectrum, and they're being creative about ways to squeeze more out of what they already have. (Exact speeds vary, but an LTE connection is typically 10 times faster than one provided by a 3G network.) The federal government licenses spectrum space, and wireless carriers and other companies have for many years bought up and hoarded licenses, anticipating the need to expand. But the largely unforeseen explosion in demand for wireless bandwidth, driven by the appearance of tablets and smart phones, has made it more urgent to ensure a supply for future use.  AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel says network traffic and the company's spectrum portfolio affect the kind of service that users receive in different areas. "We will continue to invest and innovate to make the best, most efficient use of available spectrum across our network," he says.

Singapore develops onchip antenna for 135 GHz WiFi that can support 20 Gigabits per second - 0 views

  •
" Researchers from A*STAR's Institute of Microelectronics (IME) have developed the first compact high performance silicon-based cavity-backed slot (CBS) antenna that operates at 135 GHz. The antenna demonstrated 30 times stronger signal transmission over on-chip antennas at 135 GHz. At just 1.6mm x 1.2mm, approximately the size of a sesame seed, it is the smallest silicon-based CBS antenna reported to date for ready integration with active circuits. IME's innovation will help realize a wireless communication system with very small form factor and almost two-thirds cheaper than a conventional CBS antenna. The antenna, in combination with other millimetre-wave building blocks, can support wireless speed of 20 Gbps - more than 200 times faster than present day Wi-Fi, to allow ultra fast point-to-point access to rich media content, relevant to online learning and entertainment."

Authentication-Free Wi-Fi Hotspots to Begin Trials - Trials Late This Year, Availabilit... - 0 views

  •
The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) recently announced that the organization has finished their trials of the Next Generation Hotspot (NGH) standard. One of the more compelling parts of the new standard is the ability to automatically log into hotspots using simply SIM card identification and not the traditional username and password, something that will be highly beneficial to carriers using Wi-Fi offload to ease congestion on wireless networks. The WBA has just recently announced that numerous global telcos have agreed to begin conducting trials of the technology starting in the fourth quarter, with actual product being available sometime in the first half of 2013
