I feel like this course is a great way to get a leg up on the competition. Mr Leoff states that most smaller organizations have well little familiarity with graphics. I feel as though in just this first chapter I have learned quite a bit about maybe the basics of graphics but over the course I will have adequate knowledge about the subject. D#2, HW#2-Chapter 2 Website - 1 views

D#2, HW#2 I thought that this was the best website that demonstrated Chapter 2 in my opinion. The website talks about the same kind of elements as in the chapter including size, color, weight, and style. I also enjoyed it because the writer explained, like the book, the reason for each of these techniques and why they help the reader get the information that is being shown to them.

D#1 HW#13 Dan Pink study questions - 0 views

  •
Study questions on Daniel Pink's book, "A Whole New Mind," which has a chapter on design. Other chapters in the book also have tips on good design. I really love Dan Pink's design viewpoint, which is that we can find or create good design in everything.

This was my favorite bookmarked relating to Chapter 1. It is quite comprehensive and touches on a lot of what was covered in the chapter. I find this very usefeul.
  •
This is actually appears to be an online textbook for a technical writing course. I found that the introduction and many of the examples/models were great tools in helping to understand chapter 1. Also, I think the page in itself is a great example of technical writing.

I found chapter 3 of this document useful. It gives you common elements of good writing, do's and don'ts of writing styles and usage. All of the chapters are relevant for this project and provide a checklist at the end of each.

Creative Brainstorming: 50 Examples of The Logo Design Process - Noupe Design Blog - 1 views

This was my favorite article that I found relating and supporting Chapter 1 because it was very visual. In each picture the design process for the individual logos were clearly demonstrated and it was interesting to see the possibilities that were not choosen. Chapter 1 explains the amount of prep work and thought that happens all before a simple design can become realized.

This is a chapter out of a book with same types of information that we are reading about. What I really like about this article are the many examples that it has added all the way through. I think it really helps you to understand what they mean when they are talking about certain ways of writing.
  •
This also looks like a chapter out of a book but a very good chapter with descriptions and actual examples all the way through.

D#7.0 HW#4 Email etiquette for effective email replies - 1 views

  • Be aware that when you send an email in rich text or HTML format, the sender might only be able to receive plain text emails. If this is the case, the recipient will receive your message as a .txt attachment. Most email clients however, including Microsoft Outlook, are able to receive HTML and rich text messages.
  • Do not forward chain letters. We can safely say that all of them are hoaxes. Just delete the letters as soon as you receive them.
  • This will almost always annoy your recipient before he or she has even read your message.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • Use a meaningful subject
  • Even more so than the high-priority option, you must at all times try to avoid these types of words in an email or subject line. Only use this if it is a really, really urgent or important message.
  •
This is a comprehensive list of email etiquette, including many things I had not heard before or read in chapter 12...such as, ""Do not copy a message or attachment without permission" and "use active instead of passive" voice.

This article is coming from a business's perspective about why it is important to have employees follow good email etiquette. We had read about important reasons like professionalism and efficiency, but not so much about a company's liability for its employee's emails.

D#5 HW#1 The Power of Alignment | Webitect - 1 views

    • Rebecca Anderson

I liked this website best because it illustrates the grid method explained in chapter 5. Also it notes that most designers forget about alignment as a design concept which I related to given my first draft of project 1 had no alignment concepts what so ever.
  • adds to the organization and usability of a web page
  • an image can align with elements on the web page
  • ...6 more annotations...
  • Alignment
  • One of these points of alignment is the corner of the walls
  • Not enough attention to alignment can make or break the beauty of a website design
  • using the lines, shapes, and contrasting colors of the image
  • designers used images, color contrast, and features of their respective websites to create an interesting and effective use of alignment
  • beauty for all viewers
  •
This page is more of a resource than an example of aligntment. The examples that Kayla(the author) shows looks like good examples however the resolution they were posted in makes it blurry and hard to judge. Kayla however breaks down in a few brief paragraphs how effective and important alignment is within an article, or project. One aspect that she hits on that makes a lot of sense to me is the images in alignment and how they can also be placed into alignment even though it is a photo. There is a lot more that goes into alignment that first expected.

This page goes into great detail about the importance of alignment, especially in web design. It also has many examples of alignment in different pages for you to see the effects.
  •
This site gives some interesting views on alignment and some examples that I'm not sure I like. In saying that though I really do like some of the notes for instance, that there are many points to align to on a layout. It also is much nicer to use color contrast and other features along with the alignment.
  •
This website is very helpful when it comes to explaining alignment.  Even if you have other good elements going around your picture/website, it might look cluttered and there can be a bad use of alignment.  This website gives you examples of how to use proper alignment in pictures and on a layout by using the lines, shapes, and contrasting colors.

What I really liked about this one is that it has a chapter for whatever media you are trying to create a design for. Whether it be a newspaper or internet, you can turn to the chapter and it explains to you the precise way to do it for that specific media.
  •
I really like this one because its more detailed. There is a table of contents that explains a variety of details that go into making a design. For example, chapter 1 is doing the research, ch.3 is Headlines and Slogans. This is really helpful for someone who has no idea where to begin.

D#1, HW#13-3websites This website highlights some key points also included in chapter 1, in giving advice for movie posters. This is so interesting to me because I am very interested in production design and its great to see design aspects correlate to movies as well. I love to study the conversion point between design and movies.

D#1, HW#1 Strategic Design: 6 Steps For Building Successful Websites - Smashing Magazine - 0 views

  •
This website focuses more on building a design for a successful website, but it's another example of using the same strategic steps in chapter one of "Basic of Design". I especially am drawn to the second step of this website "Identify your audience". Nowadays new technology being introduced to a variety of generations can be somewhat tricky. The fact that they mentioned "technical competency" as a consideration, gives a better understanding of who you will be dealing with and what levels of technology to consider.
