How Does fillers and Facelift Surgery Work? - Cosmetic Surgeon - Medium - 0 views

  •
Who wouldn't love to look young and beautiful? Minor signs of ageing can make us panic because such signs start appearing one after the other making you look older and less pretty as would look without them. Wrinkles and lines appear because your skin loses its elasticity and volume over time. We know that ageing is an inevitable process but we wish to delay it and look youthful for more and more time.

Risk Factors Associated With Cardiovascular Events During Testosterone Administration i... - 0 views

  •
This study proves the problems rampant in science today.  This study looked at older men with mobility limitations: safe to say, not optimal health.  They give 10 grams of testosterone daily to these men.  Physiologic doses are 5-10 mg.  And they are surprise that there is an increase in side effects, here in this study CVD.  They did look at cytokines, I'll give them that; but they did not look at aromatase activity and E2, E1 levels which have been shown to be the driving forces behind these inflammatory cytokines in men.  Testosterone has in fact been shown to downregulate these inflammatory cytokines.  Poor study.  No conclusion can be taken from this study.

JAMA Network | JAMA | Menopausal Hormone Therapy and Health Outcomes During the Interve... - 0 views

This study cannot make the conclusion AT ALL.  They claim to say hormones should not be used to prevent chronic disease. Yet, the study they use to support this statement, the WHI, did not look at hormones.  The WHI looked at premarin and medroxyprogesterone acetate, a progestin.  They are not the hormones the body makes. Second, the WHI looked at women that were 6 years postmenopausal, on average, and then they added in bad drugs, disguised as hormone like, and then were dosed high.   If one desires to truly make a statement of prevention, one needs to pre-empt testing and therapy before disease.  Additionally, the study needs to match the hormones needed at the right physiologic level in the right balance.   One must also ensure proper hormone metabolism and know hormone receptor status.  This study does non of the above and the conclusion of this study is irrelevant.  In fact, I think the authors of this study have undergone scientific malpractice in their conclusions.

Evaluation of gabapentin in management of hot flushes in postmenopausal women - 0 views

  •
Study finds non-hormonal therapy to manage hot flashes in postmenopausal women--drug them.  The authors of this study, looked to gabapentin, also known as neurontin to treat hot flashes.  Instead of looking at the causes: hormone imbalance, stress... these authors looked to a sedating drug.  The dosing of neurontin was 900 mg.   Most can't stand at this dose.  This study points to the lunacy in the research today.  Very soon, there will be the walking dead among us.  They will be the walking doped instead of dead.

Transport Chair - 0 views

  •
Lightweight wheelchairs provide convenience and comfort to the user and caregiver alike and are often built using materials like aluminum and titanium alloy, while foldable wheelchairs allow for easy storage and transport. Merge the two styles, and got a great mobility aid that isn't a pain to lug around. Utilizing small wheels and lighter materials, transport wheelchairs can tip the scale at as little as 19 lbs, ideal for those looking for a highly portable option. Transport chairs also tend to be more affordable and offer the benefit of increased mobility without breaking the bank. Transport wheelchairs or companion chairs are companion wheelchairs where the purpose is for a companion to push the user. Most transporters have swing-away leg rests, fixed armrests, and side panels. Instead of the usual large back - small front wheels typical of most wheelchairs, light travel chairs have four small wheels providing much easier maneuverability of the chair. This study looked at T:E2 levels in men for seasonal fluctuations.  What is interesting, is that the T:E2 ratio is at it's lowest during the fall months and highest during the summer months.  This does conflict somewhat with studies that have looked at seasons fluctuations of T alone.  But, it does correlate with changes in body habitus and activity levels.

Potent Inhibition of Human Phosphodiesterase-5 by Icariin Derivatives - Journal of Natu... - 0 views

  •
A natural phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitor would be nice.  This study looked at a lot of traditional herbal remedies to block phosphodiesterase 5 activity.  Only Epimedii herb with the active ingredient icariin worked.  Other preparations were shown to work, but via different mechanisms.  This is a review of studies looking at these herbal preparations.

Comparison of salivary versus serum testos... [Menopause. 2009 Jul-Aug] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
this study looked at salivary testosterone to serum testosterone and found poor correlation.  One major problem with this study is the significantly smaller amount (10 fold) of testosterone in women than men in healthy individuals.  This study took place in postmenopausal women, which would have significantly lower levels than healthy women.  They also don't discuss the pitfalls of equilibrium dialysis of serum free testosterone.  Another major flaw is the mere logic of looking at serum for tissue activity.   What is the correlation between serum levels and tissue activity.  There is tremendous assumptions being undertaken that serum levels of testosterone whether total or free translate to genomic or non-genomic signaling.  I also wonder if newer techniques using Mass Spec can better detect the typically pico levels of testosterone in women's saliva?  This study does nothing to dissuade the use of salivary testing.

Utility, Limitations, and Pitfalls in Measuring Testosterone: An Endocrine Society Posi... - 0 views

This was a position statement from the Council of the Endocrine Society.  They looked at the reliability of free and total testosterone in serum and their conclusion: "...most assays for TT and FT are currently performed is decidedly unsatisfactory."  Enough said.  Interesting that they didn't look at salivary testosterone testing which has been shown to be extremely reliable and easy to perform.   I wonder how many physicians, insurance companies, state boards of medicine have read this statement?

Treatment of Men for "Low Testosterone": A Systematic Review - 0 views

  •
Systematic review finds very little clinical benefit from Testosterone therapy.  The problem here is one typically made by allopathic medicine.  They look for a benefit in a box.  They look for one therapy to cure all.  Testosterone therapy should be the last thing you prescribe as usually low Testosterone is the effect and early is not the cause.  Clearly, in the right individual, Testosterone therapy can have tremendous positive effects; however, it must accompany nutrition, exercise, inflammation control...  Testosterone is just one piece of a very complex male physiologic puzzle.

this study states that progesterone promotes breast growth and has implications of breast cancer.  However, this study looked at progestins not progesterone.  Studies have shown a reduction of breast cancer risk with progesterone and an increase with progestins.  It would have been nice to have looked at "progesterone" metabolites.  This study shows the flaw that many have: the intermix progesterone and progestins as if they are one in the same and they are clearly not

Plasma testosterone in the general population, can... [Ann Oncol. 2014] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

  •
prospective study of almost 9,000 men and women followed for 30 + years.  The study found that there was a significant increased risk of early death after diagnosis of cancer with higher levels of Testosterone.  The risk was increased by up to 80%.  The incidence of cancer was unchanged.  The study looked at total Testosterone via serum.  The study is limited due to its limited look at hormones.  Full Testosterone metabolism needs to be evaluated--including conversion to estrogens.  Inflammatory cytokines need to be assessed and men and women need to be assessed separately as their reactions to hormones are quite different.

Abstract presented finds that Testosterone IM undecanoate significantly reduced metabolic syndrome parameters in men.  This study looked at men with secondary hypogonadism and late onset.  The ages were from 15-72.  The full is not available as of this post.  The study only looked at serum T.  This limits the usefulness of this test.  According to this abstract, no evaluation of SHBG was performed.  Though not significant, PSA and prostate volume increased.

Does hormone therapy affect blood pressure changes... [Menopause. 2013] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

The author's conclusion of this study found no difference in decline in blood pressure with/without estrogen therapy.  However, if you look at the results, the nonusers of estrogen did not have a decline in systolic blood pressure as in the users of estrogen.  So, I don't know where that conclusion comes from.  This study looked at lifestyle changes.  This study also found no benefit of metformin in blood pressure

Testosterone Levels and Sexual Function Disorders ... [J Sex Med. 2013] - PubMed - NCBI - 0 views

Interesting finding in this study. They looked at Total Testosterone and bioavailable Testosterone and found that antidepressant therapy increased both values post treatment.  This is counter to what has been readably seen in men--with a decline.  The abstract here does not point disclose the actual Testosterone numbers.  I wonder if the well known disruption of the CYP enzymes by antidepressants slowed clearance and increased Testosterone levels.  This study did not look at other hormones or inflammatory cytokines.  Very tunneled vision study.  Nothing can be drawn from this study.

study looked at androgen deprivation therapy in non-metastatic prostate cancer.  This study found that the elimination of ADR post 5 years was associated with low recurrence.  Relapse of increased PSA was associated with increasing Testosterone off of ADR.  This study did not look at estrogens or androgen metabolites.  Too short sided in its design.
