I initially thought this article would point me in a different direction, but after reading it I think we are able to see cool equate to technology. In fact, while I was reading I tried to change all the "cool" words for "technology" and I still got the same message. In our society we measure coolness by your technology integration. Geek is chic.

Really interesting study on the decline of literacy in the Digital Age

10% of business reviews will be fake by 2014 -- I found this shocking! Sure, don't believe everything you read online but 10 per cent? If you're a communications manager relying on reviews to promote your company or build trust among customers, how do you maintain your integrity if this kind of statistic is floating around?

I know many of us place high value on online customer reviews. Think of this site as the "Urban Spoon" of software and apps. You can browse technologies by theme (creative, customers, team, productivity etc.) view screen shots and read user reviews. You can also browse compiled lists of technologies posted by users of the site. Ex. "how I manage my retail business" or "28 ideas for an awesome office" This site might be helpful exploring technologies for our research paper!

Been reading up on big data since the first mashup and found this article on big data being our generation's civil rights issue. Personalization is being touted as the future but, as this article states, is it just another word for discrimination as well?

Not sure if technology replaces an intimate, interactive learning environment. The problem is defining which classrooms benefit from it rather than a university-wide policy. (I meant to post this when I first read it but came back to it around after watching another digital education seminar).

Really interesting read about Instagram disabling its compatibility with Instagram - which officially has nothing to do with it being owned by Facebook. An interesting site focusing on the evolution of visual communication. The author takes you through communication via rocks and caves, the printing press, the computer etc...It's an interesting read as it allows us to thoroughly understand how communication tools progressed at the speed of light since the Latin typographic system. 

An article by the CEO of Hootsuite about how email kills productivity. namely, he argues it is linear and not social. Interesting read in light of our discussions on synchronous and asynchronous communications

Great bullet point read about communication strategies in the business world from the centre for teaching from the University of Waterloo.

A light read, but a really great insight into wireless networks in Canada. Funny how the market is "functioning well," yet there are still so many accessibility issues related to internet access which need to be adressed, especially with regards to rural communities. The issue of access was touched on in Dijk's readings.

GREAT article on how smartphones make us "superhuman" and the concept of your phone as a "phantom limb". READ IT! 

Very fitting for our PC8005 readings, as well as what we're learning in Professor Fung's class. Another example of how technology and new developments can leave a lot of people behind, unless they adapt to new forms of technology quickly! 

After reading some of the articles for this week this article seemed relevant as it looks at the effects our mobile technology and the need to be always connected is starting to have on consumers.

I haven't seen this film, but it seems like  it is a great take on the intersection between semiotics, and the coercive aspects of visual culture! From reading the description it might attempt to tackle some of the issues we've been focusing on in all three core courses. "BEWARE OF IMAGES is a feature-length, animated documentary about the history of visual representation. The movie explores the intricate relationship between the technology, regulation and social effects of mass media. "

This blog post from the Harvard Business Review fits perfectly into the readings from this past week for PC8005. It speaks to the importance of existing in two systems: local market and global corporation. Great real-world examples are provided.
