    An all-day extravaganza featuring speakers on a variety of topics pertaining to the special needs community. We will have 3 breakout sessions with choices of classes to attend. Chad Berg, the Bozeman Special Ed Director, will be giving a keynote address. There will also be a resource fair with agencies from the community. Free breakfast, lunch, and child care will be provided.

    RESA4U and Region IV CSPD are partnering to present a Region IV Summer Institute. Registration for the three-day Institute is $100 per person and housing is available at the UM-Western campus dormitories. Judy Wood, author of Teaching the Hard to Reach, will be the keynote speaker for Monday, June 11th. Judy focuses on building a successful intervention system for at-risk students or students with unique needs within general education settings. On Tuesday, June 12 and Wednesday, June 13, educators will be able to choose from a variety of course offerings designed to enhance classroom instruction. One post-baccalaureate credit is available for attending the conference for three days. A second credit, requiring extended study, will be offered as well. The cost for each credit is $115 and is paid directly to UM-Western. These credits can be used for certificate renewal through OPI; participants would need to check with their school districts for approval regarding PIR or lane changes. When:

Margaret Tryon has been a special education teacher for 17 years, special education director 15 years, and school psychologist 9 years.   • The numbers alone don’t tell the whole story, just the worst of it.But the organizer for a statewide suicide prevention conference held in Helena last week said the event increased people’s awareness of suicide and informed them of programs and training available to help reduce Montana’s suicide rate, which was third in the nation in 2010.“This is just one piece to help address the suicide rate in our state,” said Dr. Len Lantz, who organized the event and specializes in general psychiatry with a sub-specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry.

In this talk, Jessie Close and her son Calen Pick of Bozeman will discuss their struggles with bipolar disease and schizophrenia (respectively). Levy will present an overview of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and what is known about the causes, treatment and science underlying these illnesses.
