Wiki Summarizer - 0 views

  •
. Wiki Summarizer is a site that allows you to search Wikipedia, have articles summarized by key points, and provides lists of articles that are related to your original search. Recently, Wiki Summarizer got a few nice upgrades that should prove to be useful. In an effort to make Wiki Summarizer more visually appealing and easier to navigate, Wiki Summarizer offers expandable webs of related articles. For example, I searched for "German Shepherd" and a web of related terms was created. Clicking on the "+" symbol next to each term opens a new element of the web. All parts of the web link to Wikipedia articles.

Participation Inequality: Lurkers vs. Contributors in Internet Communities (Jakob Niels... - 0 views

  •
This is, I believe, the original source article for the 90% lurkers 9% and 1% contributors quote. Whilst the article from Jakob Neilsen explains the basis for his assertion then it also goes on to explore the upsides and downsides of this situation as well as some ways to overcome the downsides. The article was written in 2006 so some of the context may have changed though I wonder whether the fundamentals are not still the same.

Wikipedia Tightens Editing Policy -- Wikipedia -- InformationWeek - 0 views

  •
This article explains how editing has tightened within Wikipedia.
  •
Wikipedia has tightened its editing policy to improve accuracy and prevent vandalism on the user-written online encyclopedia. The changes were discussed Wednesday on the site's blog, following reports on the Web that the site was "clamping down" on its open-editing process, which allows anyone to contribute articles or revise information on existing articles.

» Top 100 Articles of 2011 C4LPT - 3 views

  •
i wonder if anyone actually reads anymore? plenty of evidence in these 100 articles why innovation based on CoPs, edupreneurs, outputs, valuing behaviour change we want to see and student centred GBL pull learning not course inputs, packaged content, event based TPL, 2005 ala 2nd life, push teaching and traditional boring LMS use will see some projects fly and others crash and burn. Also reinforces why fundamentally old thinking will fail if you just put lipstick on the e-pig and call it innovative.

The End of Techno-Critique: The Naked Truth about 1:1 Laptop Initiatives and Educationa... - 8 views

  •
This article responds to a generation of techno-criticism in education. It contains a review of the key themes of that criticism. The context of previous efforts to reform education reframes that criticism. Within that context, the question is raised about what schools need to look and be like in order to take advantage of laptop computers and other technology. In doing so, the article presents a vision for self-organizing schools.

Digital Culture & Education: Classroom perspectives - Digital Culture & Education - 2 views

  •
In this issue we present articles that push the boundaries of research on digital cultures, teaching, and technologies in fruitful and generative directions.  Researchers and practitioners in this issue present case studies and analysis of practical classroom use of copyright literacies, learning management systems, mobile/cell phones, social video, Twitter, and Google Reader.  The articles demonstrate how the affordances of digital culture have shifted our understandings of how pupils learn as content can be accessed, designed, and shared.  Despite the affordances of digital culture, teaching and learning-with and through digital technologies-requires effective pedagogy.  Digital technologies are not 'teacher-proof' tools; they require thoughtful and thorough integration into pedagogy, in a manner that reflects carefully articulated instructional and learning goals

This article outlines ways to increase the productivity of groups, whether they be face-to-face or remotely connected through Web 2.0.
  •
Proponents of Web 2.0 and social networking often make claims for the benefits of this popular (supposedly new) phenomenon that include the likelihood of collaboration and group problem-solving as students from around the world team to take on important challenges. While collaboration might result if the activities are structured in ways that produce those results, decades of school and corporate efforts suggest that quality is unlikely to result from throwing folks together in groups while leaving issues of process to happenstance. This article outlines ways to increase the productivity of groups, whether they be face-to-face or remotely connected through Web 2.0.
