The May 22 edition of University Business includes the following article highlighting the "Student Information Systems (SIS) U.S. Higher Education Market Share, Trends, and Leaders" report by The Tambellini Group.  The report found that Oracle dominated SIS growth in 2013 with 40 percent of purchases - most notably at large institutions like Harvard, Penn State, and the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.  The article includes comment from Michael Büsges, enterprise project director, Penn State, who notes that Oracle's system is the most cost effective and least risky.

As noted in the posting, the Oracle theme of the NOW Economy could not be timelier. In addition, along with the chance to see first-hand the importance of telecom signaling as a core enabler of NOW and more importantly the future, this is are a rare opportunity to speak directly with SMEs about industry trends and challenges.

The September/October edition of Electric Light & Power includes the following article the current state of smart meter data management amongst U.S. utilities. The article includes the results of Oracle Utilities' recent "Big Data, Bigger Opportunities" report, noting that out of the 151 North American utilities executives surveyed, respondents rated themselves a 6.7 out of 10 on "readiness to manage big data." The article also notes that the same Oracle study found that the two largest amounts of data being extracted are power outage and voltage.

Alltel Wireless, a telecommunications provider serving six states, has implemented Oracle Retail Stores Solutions[LPC1] across all of its retail locations to support its growing consumer and commercial customer base in the U.S.

The article improving student experience and retaining current students as reasons for deployment, but few schools are using CRM to do this. The article includes comment from Joe Burkhart, Director of Higher Education Solutions, Oracle who notes that schools are looking at taking care of existing students - from the admissions office to financial aid to dining halls. Further, the article discusses the growing use of technologies like live chat and web self-service. Of note, the article discusses how DeVry University uses Oracle's RightNow cloud solutions to provide current and prospective students with fast, accurate answers to their questions. It includes comment from Dave Trafton, DeVry's online student service manager, who notes that Oracle RightNow has helped the school become more responsive to student needs. The article also includes comment from David Richter, U.S. Sales Director for Higher Education Service Automation, Oracle who notes that only a handful of schools currently marry student data with their CRM systems.
