How To Protect Your Ideas in the Digital Age (Seth Godin) - 4 views

  •
If we're in the idea business, how to protect those ideas? One way is to misuse trademark law. With the help of search engines, greedy lawyers who charge by the letter are busy sending claim letters to anyone who even comes close to using a word or phrase they believe their client 'owns'.

"Focus on being the best tailor with the sharpest scissors, not the litigant who sues any tailor who deigns to use a pair of scissors." I am 100% behind this ending point. We live in a world where you are now challenged to create great ideas, not just sit on what you have. Keep striving! Woohoo!

Free Culture - Lawrence Lessig - 6 views

FREE CULTURE is available for free under a Creative Commons license. You may redistribute, copy, or otherwise reuse/remix this book provided that you do so for non-commercial purposes and credit Professor Lessig. " America needs a national conversation about the way in which so-called 'intellectual property rights' have come to dominate the rights of scholars, researchers, and everyday citizens. A copyright cartel, bidding for absolute control over digital worlds, music, and movies, now has a veto over technological innovation and has halted most contributions to the public domain from which so many have benefited. The patent system has spun out of control, giving enormous power to entrenched interests, and even trademarks are being misused. Lawrence Lessig's latest book is essential reading for anyone who want to join this conversation. He explains how technology and the law are robbing us of the public domain; but for all his educated pessimism, Professor Lessig offers some solutions, too, because he recognizes that technology can be the catalyst for freedom. If you care about the future of innovation, read this book." -- Dan Gillmor, author of MAKING THE NEWS, an upcoming book on the collision of media and technology

I began at Code Academy last year, and completed various courses. The problem I had was knowing about the architecture and systems behind the code, so, now I am learning to use Command Line and working through FLOSS manuals. I like Code academy, and I may go back there, but not before I have understood Command Line and more specifically what works with Linux, Ubuntu, Fedora etc The thing is, free software development, open source and education for all, begins with Linux OS and whatever branches from that is free to share, iterate and scalable. The trademark socialist, philosophically opposed to the capitalist.
