Part of NAVA's professional development session on social media for artists, Zoë Rodriguez from the Copyright Agency Limited discusses digital copyright, contracts and moral rights. (New Zealand) We live in a global world - if you use someone's work from another country, take note of their copyright laws.

    useful thank you

Great post. It's always nice to get insight into the "bigger picture" when talking about complicated laws like copyright instead of just isolated incidents.

How We Use Social Media for Informal Learning - 2 views

  •
From Topic: https://groups.diigo.com/group/okmooc/content/community-manager-12884327 By: https://www.diigo.com/profile/cvpido Vendors talk about social learning like its something revolutionary, but I'm here to tell you its not. Informal learning is an everyday thing. Social media tools are just another platform we use to learn from each-other and find information serendipitously.
  •
Ad Huikeshoven , I do agree with you. There is nothing new with social learning. In the african context, that was the way of learning through informal gatherings, story tellings around fire or while drinking some traditional beer. Otherwise we are just acknowledging that, there is plenty to learn from each other and through each other. The wheel can not be reinvented for sure.

1. Introduction - Practical statistics - 2 views

  •
Thank you for sharing the resource on library statistics. The site attracted my attention first of all because it is a Scandinavian resource. The material contains lots of useful theoretical and practical material. In the introduction the author states "It contains a number of research papers, but the framework is different. This is collection of texts, tables, graphics and links that are aimed at the people who actually run libraries." Statistics is a useful tool if used correctly and wisely. It may inspire changes and innovations and also measure the importance of changes. Besides, collection and interpretation of statistical data also changes with the course of time. The author has very clearly explained library statistics with good examples. .

    Good work thank you

yes, it's really nice video and story starts from being entrepreneur in those times. The concept of printing never existed till Gutenberg invented printing machine. As we watch video, inquisitiveness makes us to think beyond video like how did Gutenberg ever prepared ink and how did Gutenberg established printing process.

Course Resource Library: Open Knowledge - Google Sheets - 5 views

  •
It´s been great fun recieving so many comments and I do feel that I am lerning new tools as you come with your recommendations for creating a Course Resource Library - a place where we can make a list of useful links, which should be categorised so that all of us can find the resources we need when we need them. I have created a Google Drive Spreadsheet to which everyone can contribute and use. Everyone with the link can view and edit. Lets make this library now and keep looking for more attractive ways to present it. Here it goes:

Sharing is Caring - Statens Museum for Kunst - 2 views

  •
Merete Sanderhoff edited this collection of 18 articles on the topic of Openness in the cultural sector (predominantly museums). An excellent resource as museums struggle to retain image rights while at the same time fulfilling their both their educational and preservational missions.

  •
Very good work. Thank you for sharing.
  •
Andy, I have read Merete's work and it is fascinating reading. I have been thinking about openness in museums for some time. When I have suggested to some museum professionals that they open up their collections for reuse, remixing and redistribution they have reacted with horror. Partly this is an attitude issue. They view themselves as the "custodians" of our cultural heritage and for that reason may be reluctant to see that heritage be used in ways that they have little control over. I did write a long blog piece some time ago on which museums are allowing open access to their online collections. It's a bit out of date now as other museums have opened up their images since I wrote the piece - such as the Guggenheim and the British Library collection on Flickr. Still, I thought you and others might be interested: http://teachtheweb.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/using-museum-images-open-and-closed.html
  •
This is really interesting! Thanks for sharing - I'll be reading this on my commute this week. The juxtaposition raised between safeguarding collections and allowing access (and possible re-use) is enlightening.
  •
Caring for collection being shared is also a part of knowledge openness to access because all collections are precious for its timeless value , memoirs, and cultural heritage.

State of the Web: Reddit, the world's best anonymous social network - 1 views

  •
Interesting reading in this Module, esp the article about having an additional anonymous online persona. It's interesting in that reddit not only allows users to register using obviously fake names, but also declines to require any authentication, but still offers it as an option. I participated in the reddit community for about a year, and in that time connected with numerous individuals, most of which I never learned 'who' they were. Personally, I was never harassed, bullied or otherwise hassled, save for one or two PMs from various mods when I had run afoul of their guidelines.
  •
You beat me to it, i was planning on posting about reddit! Yeah, it's anonymous, and it's against its rules to post personal information, but it gets leaked and some people managed to get someone's information by reading old posts and connecting dots. The information you post, as a whole, its your footprint and can be tracked.
  •
You beat me to it too! Reddit is a fascinating experiment. I actually mod a couple subreddits over there, and it's always interesting to read articles about it. In my two or so years on Reddit, I have: --Made friends (and lost touch with) with people from all over the world. --Been cyber-bullied and therefore witnessed exactly how good the moderators of certain subreddits can be. It was taken care of quickly and cleanly. I still love the community. --Seen people get "doxxed" (where their anonymity is broken, and often angry users track down the victim in a rather frightening way). --Seen the outrage the general community expresses at "doxxing", which was heartening. --Seen it used as an amazingly effective social networking and marketing tool. Posts and posters that come across and genuine, informed, and amicable are usually welcomed with open arms, even if they deal with a subject or product Redditors dislike. --Seen it completely backfire as a social networking and marketing tool, which happens when someone uses marketing "tricks" or comes across as anything less than genuine. --Gotten death threats for posting a picture of a squashed coin that made the front page. Reddit can be very weird. --Gotten beautiful, kind, completely random private messages for no reason at all on days where I really need them. Reddit can be very sweet. --Read articles in the Washington Post comparing Reddit to a democratic fiefdom. Sounds about right. --Been exposed to points of view I never would have seen before in my life, simply because of where I live and who I know. It's mind-blowing. The whole website just never ceases to amaze me. Honestly, it sort of reminds me of a MOOC: it's an ever-continuing event where people learn and argue and network.

an exciting comic book created by the Center for the Study of Public Domain (Duke University), that explores fair use, copyright, and public domain. It is important to note that the way they distribute the book is also amazingly open--they provide download of many formats to enable easy access and easy reuse.
