    The Summer Stipends Program at the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) provides $6,000 for individuals to spend two consecutive months of full-time advanced research and writing that is of value to scholars and general audiences in the humanities. Miami University is eligible to nominate two full-time faculty for the program. The Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate School is the nominating official for Miami University. The two Miami nominees will be selected by the Associate Provost with input from an ad-hoc committee of humanities scholars who will review all internal submissions. To provide time for the internal review and the electronic submission process the internal deadline for proposals is 5:00 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2016. Contact OARS at 513-529-3600.

    Miami faculty should notify Associate Provost Jim Oris of their interest in the following RFP. ---------- CGS invites doctoral-granting member institutions to apply to participate in Understanding PhD Career Pathways for Program Improvement, a multi-institution effort to collect and use data on PhD career pathways, funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the National Science Foundation (NSF #1661272). This is an important opportunity to deepen your institution's understanding of the career goals and outcomes of its PhDs; communicate your support for the career diversity of PhDs; make evidence-based interventions that support the success of PhDs and the recruitment of future students; and access anonymized benchmarking data compiled from other project partners.   Awards: Option 1: Humanities Only. Provides awards of $30,000 each to support implementation of surveys of humanities PhD students and alumni over a period of twenty-four months. Supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; 15 awards available. Please indicate in your proposal why a humanities-only project aligns with your institutional mission.   Option 2: STEM Only. Provides awards of $50,000 to each to support implementation of surveys of STEM PhD students and alumni over a period of thirty-six months. Supported by the National Science Foundation; 15 awards available. Please indicate in your proposal why a STEM-only project aligns with your institutional mission.   Option 3: Combined Proposal. If an institution meets the eligibility requirements for both the Humanities and STEM awards, CGS strongly encourages the submission of a combined proposal. These revised dates apply whether the proposal is being submitted via the NSF FastLane System or  Grants.gov. Public Scholar Program | National Endowment for the Humanities - 0 views

    The Public Scholar program supports well-researched books in the humanities intended to reach a broad readership. Such scholarship might present a narrative history, tell the stories of important individuals, analyze significant texts, provide a synthesis of ideas, revive interest in a neglected subject, or examine the latest thinking on a topic. Books supported by this program must be grounded in humanities research and scholarship. They must address significant humanities themes likely to be of broad interest and must be written in a readily accessible style. By establishing the Public Scholar program, NEH enters a long-term commitment to encourage scholarship in the humanities for general audiences. In the early rounds of the competition, NEH especially welcomes applicants who are in the writing stages of their projects or who already have a commitment from a publisher.  However, the Public Scholar program also supports projects in the early stages of development.

    The U.S. Embassy in Paris invites proposal submissions for the U.S. Speakers Series entitled Transatlantic Voices - U.S. Commitment to Europe. U.S. Embassy Paris is soliciting proposals for projects aimed at central European audiences with the following goals: increasing the understanding of U.S. foreign policy and economic priorities related to Europe; advancing economic growth in both regions and worldwide; and furthering U.S.-European understanding and cooperation on shared cultural, political and economic values. This U.S. Foreign Policy Speaker Series seeks to foster dialogue between U.S. scholars and European experts, officials, media, students, civil society members, and representatives of key industries, by bringing 6-10 high-level U.S. experts to discuss strategic U.S. foreign policy issues with central European audiences. These multi-country speaker series events will highlight the strength of the transatlantic relationship and deepen mutual understanding of the U.S. role in Europe.

Documenting Endangered Languages - 0 views

    This funding partnership between the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) supports projects to develop and advance knowledge concerning endangered human languages. Made urgent by the imminent death of roughly half of the approximately 7000 currently used languages, this effort aims to exploit advances in information technology to build computational infrastructure for endangered language research. The program supports projects that contribute to data management and archiving, and to the development of the next generation of researchers. Funding can support fieldwork and other activities relevant to the digital recording, documenting, and archiving of endangered languages, including the preparation of lexicons, grammars, text samples, and databases. Funding will be available in the form of one- to three-yearsenior researchgrants,fellowships from sixto twelve months, and conference proposals. Note: a conference proposal should generally be submitted at least a year in advance of the scheduled date of the conference.     This project will provide two separate streams of English training, one for journalists and one for export-oriented business professionals, for the purpose of giving both audiences the necessary language skills to communicate more effectively. For journalists, the project will enable participants to more effectively research and develop stories in English, and to represent current events in Afghanistan to a larger international audience. For export-oriented business professionals, the course will enhance their ability to engage in relationship-building and transactions with other English speakers, with the intent of boosting international trade. The successful applicant is expected to administer and conduct English courses for each group, separately, over a 12-month period to at least 80 participants for each of the two separate streams. The courses will include topics and vocabulary relevant to each audience, and will improve participants' English ability in reading, listening, speaking, and writing. To target the skills development of women, gender balance among participants will be taken into consideration in the selection process.

The U.S. Embassy in Moscow invites proposal submissions for a cooperative agreement to provide technical and logistical support for English Language Programming from the English Language Office (ELO) in Russia. Award recipients will consult closely with the English Language Officer in PAS Moscow throughout the development, implementation, and evaluation of each English Language Program. Each English Language Program professionally develops teachers, increases the English language skills of students, or assists an expert to professionally develop other teachers of English in Russia. These include, but are not limited to: Umbrella and National Association of Teachers' of English) NATE conferences, ETA support to visit English Access camps, Teacher Associations' and USG alumni support, travel of Russian English teachers to TESOL Convention and other international conferences, and targets of opportunity. The grantee will be responsible for providing logistical support during major ELO events and projects in Russia in the form of venue negotiations and arrangements, transportation, transfers, hotel and meal arrangements, purchasing of materials and supplies, and other technical and/or logistical support, as directed by PAS Moscow. The Grantee will be required to provide the Embassy with program account records on a regular basis.

    The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, is pleased to announce an open competition for eligible organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to teach English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to select Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) employees. The successful applicant is expected to administer and conduct ESP courses at the intermediate and advanced levels to select employees of the MFA. The recipient will also be expected to administer TOEFL iBT prep courses. This project aims to provide MFA employees with the necessary language skills to communicate in English at the intermediate and advanced levels. The course will introduce topics and vocabulary relevant to foreign affairs professionals into the course curriculum. This is a 12-month project for 120 participants (60 participants per each 6-month semester) which will improve participants' overall English ability in terms of reading, listening, speaking, writing, and presentation skills.

American Sign Language Conservation Corps Crew Working - 0 views

    The principal purpose of the project is to support the Government’s objective to provide opportunities for youth to learn about the environment as well as relevant job skills by spending time working on projects in National Parks. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing community often struggles to break into the job market, so crew participants in this project will particularly benefit from the professional development and job skills gained during this experience. The NPS receives the indirect benefit of completing conservation projects. The project engages crew participants, partners, and the Deaf/Hard of Hearing communities in shared resource stewardship. This project will align with DOI priorities such as Restoring Trust With Local Communities (in this case, the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community and rural New Mexican communities) and Modernizing Our Infrastructure (projects will address deferred maintenance whenever possible).
