Fellowships in fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction enable recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career advancement. Non-matching grants are for $25,000.

The Conference on College Composition and Communication is inviting proposals for its Research Initiative, which is designed to advance the organization's mission to advocate for broad and evolving definitions of literacy, communication, rhetoric, and writing (including multi-modal discourse, digital communication, and diverse language practices) and empower individuals and communities through bold, creative research. Through the program, grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded in support of proposals designed to investigate key challenges faced by literacy, communication, rhetoric and writing instructors and administrators in their classrooms and programs. Proposals should directly address the impact that the research might have on disciplinary and public discourse about these topics and  convey results in at least two final products: one that is addressed to a scholarly audience of researchers and teachers in the field, and one for a clearly specified audience beyond those in the field.

The Public Scholar program supports well-researched books in the humanities intended to reach a broad readership. Such scholarship might present a narrative history, tell the stories of important individuals, analyze significant texts, provide a synthesis of ideas, revive interest in a neglected subject, or examine the latest thinking on a topic. Books supported by this program must be grounded in humanities research and scholarship. They must address significant humanities themes likely to be of broad interest and must be written in a readily accessible style. By establishing the Public Scholar program, NEH enters a long-term commitment to encourage scholarship in the humanities for general audiences. In the early rounds of the competition, NEH especially welcomes applicants who are in the writing stages of their projects or who already have a commitment from a publisher.  However, the Public Scholar program also supports projects in the early stages of development.

The Summer Stipends Program at the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) provides $6,000 for individuals to spend two consecutive months of full-time advanced research and writing that is of value to scholars and general audiences in the humanities. Miami University is eligible to nominate two full-time faculty for the program. The Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate School is the nominating official for Miami University. The two Miami nominees will be selected by the Associate Provost with input from an ad-hoc committee of humanities scholars who will review all internal submissions. Grant Program Description Through fellowships to published translators, the Arts Endowment supports projects for the translation of specific works of prose, poetry, or drama from other languages into English. We encourage translations of writers and of work that are not well represented in English translation. All proposed projects must be for creative translations of literary material into English. The work to be translated should be of interest for its literary excellence and value. Priority will be given to projects that involve work that has not previously been translated into English. Competition for fellowships is rigorous. Potential applicants should consider carefully whether their work will be competitive at the national level. Advancing Basic Education in the Philippines (ABEP) project seeks to improve basic life skills for children in the early grades in the Philippines (early childhood education through Grade 3). This includes the ability to do math, read and write in Filipino, English and selected mother tongues, as appropriate.

This project will provide two separate streams of English training, one for journalists and one for export-oriented business professionals, for the purpose of giving both audiences the necessary language skills to communicate more effectively. For journalists, the project will enable participants to more effectively research and develop stories in English, and to represent current events in Afghanistan to a larger international audience. For export-oriented business professionals, the course will enhance their ability to engage in relationship-building and transactions with other English speakers, with the intent of boosting international trade. The successful applicant is expected to administer and conduct English courses for each group, separately, over a 12-month period to at least 80 participants for each of the two separate streams. The courses will include topics and vocabulary relevant to each audience, and will improve participants' English ability in reading, listening, speaking, and writing. To target the skills development of women, gender balance among participants will be taken into consideration in the selection process.

The Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, is pleased to announce an open competition for eligible organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to teach English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to select Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) employees. The successful applicant is expected to administer and conduct ESP courses at the intermediate and advanced levels to select employees of the MFA. The recipient will also be expected to administer TOEFL iBT prep courses. This project aims to provide MFA employees with the necessary language skills to communicate in English at the intermediate and advanced levels. The course will introduce topics and vocabulary relevant to foreign affairs professionals into the course curriculum. This is a 12-month project for 120 participants (60 participants per each 6-month semester) which will improve participants' overall English ability in terms of reading, listening, speaking, writing, and presentation skills.

Project that focus on one of the priority English programs and target audiences specified below: * English for underprivileged groups: English lessons for patrons of existing charity groups and organizations, including but not limited to shelters for women, abuse victims or children's organizations. * STEM Masters: English class to enhance the English capacity of students/young professionals in the STEM field for more effective STEM learning, research and global job-seeking. * Hospitality/tourism industry: English class for participants who hold low-level jobs but could improve their career tract by learning English * English for Activism: English lessons focusing on advocacy, activism, and skills for writing proposals and letters of intent. * Public Speaking skills: English class to strengthen presentation and cross-cultural communication skills for high schoolers, college students and young professionals to help them become more successful in their studies or career tract. * English for Journalists and Media Professionals: Course aimed at journalists and editors focusing on topics such as interviews, written English, and grammar. * American Culture through English: English workshop to help learners improve vocabulary while exploring components in the American culture, such as American music, sports, customs, holidays, etc…

Summer Stipends support continuous full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two consecutive months. NEH funds may support recipients' compensation, travel, and other costs related to the proposed scholarly research. NEH staff hosted a webinar describing the program, including eligibility, the application and nomination processes, and suggestions for writing an effective application. The DHC Visiting Fellow program is generally a sabbatical/leave-based position as there is no large stipend associated with this position. However, apart from the mutual benefits of being engaged with our vibrant local intellectual community in the heart of Lincoln Park in Chicago, Visiting Fellows will be given an office in the Center (with computer), staff support, library privileges, and an honorarium of up to $1,000 per quarter to support the public presentation of Fellows' work (with at least one public lecture supported and expected of all Visiting Fellows) and for participation in other DHC programming.

The European Institutes for Advanced Study (EURIAS) Fellowship Programme is an international researcher mobility programme offering 10-month residencies in one of the 16 participating Institutes: Berlin, Bologna, Brussels, Budapest, Cambridge, Delmenhorst, Freiburg, Helsinki, Jerusalem, Lyon, Marseille, Paris, Uppsala, Vienna, Wassenaar, Zürich. The Institutes for Advanced Study support the focused, self-directed work of outstanding researchers. The fellows benefit from the finest intellectual and research conditions and from the stimulating environment of a multi-disciplinary and international community of first-rate scholars. EURIAS Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities and social sciences but may also be granted to scholars in life and exact sciences, provided that their proposed research project does not require laboratory facilities and that it interfaces with humanities and social sciences. The diversity of the 16 participating IAS offers a wide range of possible research contexts in Europe for worldwide scholars. Applicants may select up to three IAS outside their country of nationality or residence as possible host institutions. The Programme welcomes applications worldwide from promising young scholars as well as from leading senior researchers. The EURIAS selection process has proven to be highly competitive. To match the Programme standards, applicants have to submit a solid and innovative research proposal, to demonstrate the ability to forge beyond disciplinary specialisation, to show an international commitment as well as quality publications in high-impact venues. For the 2014-2015 academic year, EURIAS offers 39 fellowships (20 junior and 19 senior positions).

This program supports digitally based research projects in all disciplines of the humanities and related social sciences. It is hoped that projects of successful applicants will help advance digital humanistic scholarship by broadening understanding of its nature and exemplifying the robust infrastructure necessary for creating such works. ACLS Digital Innovation Fellowships are intended to support an academic year dedicated to work on a major scholarly project that takes a digital form. Projects may: Address a consequential scholarly question through new research methods, new ways of representing the knowledge produced by research, or both; Create new digital research resources; Increase the scholarly utility of existing digital resources by developing new means of aggregating, navigating, searching, or analyzing those resources; Propose to analyze and reflect upon the new forms of knowledge creation and representation made possible by the digital transformation of scholarship. ACLS will award up to six Digital Innovation Fellowships in this competition year. Each fellowship carries a stipend of up to $60,000 towards an academic year's leave and provides for project costs of up to $25,000. ACLS does not support creative works (e.g., novels or films), textbooks, straightforward translations, or purely pedagogical projects.

Recently, Ohio Humanities (formerly Ohio Humanities Council) established a new set of grant making policies. This includes new grant guidelines, new grant deadlines, and a new grant application. 

The University of Leicester is inviting applications for funded PhD studentships starting autumn 2014 in a range of arts and humanities disciplines.

With the goal of promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in Arts and Humanities education, the Arts and Humanities Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research will offer financial support for faculty to present on the process and/or results of undergraduate research at regional or national Arts and/or Humanities conferences. The awards will be from $600 and up to three will be awarded for presentations that have been accepted by Feb. 10, 2015, to be presented (or which have been presented) in the fall of 2014 or spring of 2015 (by June 1, 2015).

Community colleges are a vital component of the higher education ecosystem and of the academic humanities in particular. Mellon/ACLS Community College Faculty Fellowships are tailored to the circumstances of humanities and social science faculty who teach at two-year institutions and are intended to support their research ambitions.
