    The Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Prize for the Translation of Japanese Literature - Through the program, a prize of up to $6,000 will be awarded for the best translation of a modern Japanese or classical work. The prize may be divided between equally distinguished translations. To be eligible, translators must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. The Lindsley and Masao Miyoshi Translation Prizes and Grants - Through the program, a total of $6,000 in prizes and grants will be awarded to outstanding translations by non-citizens or non-permanent-residents of the United States for translations of particular scholarly merit or significance; promising translations-in-progress; subventions for forthcoming publication of especially deserving translations; and, in rare cases, lifetime achievement awards for translators with particularly distinguished careers. To be eligible, translations must be of book-length Japanese works, including novels, collections of short stories, manga, essays, memoirs, drama, or poetry. Submissions may be unpublished manuscripts, works in progress, or books published during the two years prior to the prize year (for the current prize, this means publication dates in 2018 and after).

    The National Endowment for the Humanities offers the Dialogues on the Experience of War program as part of its current initiative, Standing Together: The Humanities and the Experience of War. The program supports the study and discussion of important humanities sources about war, in the belief that these sources can help U.S. military veterans and others think more deeply about the issues raised by war and military service. Although the program is primarily designed to reach military veterans, men and women in active service, military families, and interested members of the public may also participate. The program awards grants of up to $100,000 that will support * the convening of at least two discussion programs for no fewer than fifteen participants; and * the creation of a preparatory program to recruit and train program discussion leaders (NEH Discussion Leaders). Discussion programs may take place on college and university campuses, in veterans' centers, at public libraries and museums, and at other community venues.

    The TESOL International Association is accepting applications to its Tina B. Carver Fund. Through the fund, grants of up to $400 will be awarded for the purchase of student classroom learning materials and/or teacher-related materials (e.g., ancillary materials that can be used in conjunction with textbooks or other instruction materials) in support of adult ESL education programs in the United States. Priority will be given to programs that serve hard-to-reach students with limited resources (e.g., beginning literacy to intermediate-low ESL students).     The NIDCD Early Career Research (ECR) Award (R21) is intended to support both basic and clinical research from scientists who are beginning to establish an independent research career. It cannot be used for thesis or dissertation research. The research must be focused on one or more of the areas within the biomedical and behavioral scientific mission of the NIDCD: hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech, or language. The NIDCD ECR Award R21 grant mechanism supports different types of projects including secondary analysis of existing data; small, self-contained research projects; development of research methodology; translational research; outcomes research; and development of new research technology. Irrespective of the type of project, the intent of the NIDCD ECR Award R21 is for the Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) (PD(s)/PI(s)) to obtain sufficient preliminary data for a subsequent R01 application. Only one NIDCD Early Career Research Award (ECR) application may be submitted by a PD/PI per due date. Applicants will be considered ineligible for this funding opportunity if they submit an R01, R03, R15 or any other R21 application, with NIDCD as the primary IC, for the same review cycle that the NIDCD ECR Award (R21) application is submitted.

    The European Institutes for Advanced Study (EURIAS) Fellowship Programme is an international researcher mobility programme offering 10-month residencies in one of the 16 participating Institutes: Berlin, Bologna, Brussels, Budapest, Cambridge, Delmenhorst, Freiburg, Helsinki, Jerusalem, Lyon, Marseille, Paris, Uppsala, Vienna, Wassenaar, Zürich. The Institutes for Advanced Study support the focused, self-directed work of outstanding researchers. The fellows benefit from the finest intellectual and research conditions and from the stimulating environment of a multi-disciplinary and international community of first-rate scholars. EURIAS Fellowships are mainly offered in the fields of the humanities and social sciences but may also be granted to scholars in life and exact sciences, provided that their proposed research project does not require laboratory facilities and that it interfaces with humanities and social sciences. The diversity of the 16 participating IAS offers a wide range of possible research contexts in Europe for worldwide scholars. Applicants may select up to three IAS outside their country of nationality or residence as possible host institutions. The Programme welcomes applications worldwide from promising young scholars as well as from leading senior researchers. The EURIAS selection process has proven to be highly competitive. To match the Programme standards, applicants have to submit a solid and innovative research proposal, to demonstrate the ability to forge beyond disciplinary specialisation, to show an international commitment as well as quality publications in high-impact venues. For the 2014-2015 academic year, EURIAS offers 39 fellowships (20 junior and 19 senior positions).

    Grants support the development and implementation of an integrated set of courses and student engagement activities focusing on significant humanities content. A common topic, theme, or compelling issue or question must link the courses and activities. The linked courses (a minimum of three) may fulfill general education or core curriculum requirements but could also be designed primarily for students in a particular major or course of study. The Humanities Connections program gives special encouragement to projects that foster collaboration between humanities faculty and their counterparts in the social and natural sciences and pre-service or professional programs in business, engineering, health sciences, law, computer science, and other non-humanities fields.

    The Tweedie Exploration Fellowships for Students, or Tweedie Fund, grants financial help for research projects taking place in lesser-known regions of the world. The fund only makes awards to students or other candidates who are not in career-level employment. There are several restrictions on applications to the Tweedie fund: Applicants must have a degree and appropriate experience for any research. Applicants must be unsalaried (i.e. not in career-level employment). Applicants should be looking to undertake ethnological, sociological or linguistic research in lesser-known regions of the world.     MOD invites all qualified scientists with faculty appointments or the equivalent, at universities, hospitals and research institutions (not for profit or profit), to submit applications for research grants relevant to our mission. This encompasses basic biological processes governing differentiation and development, genetics and genomics of these processes, clinical studies, reproductive health and environmental toxicology, and social and behavioral studies concerning cognitive and behavioral risks that affect outcomes of pregnancy, the perinatal period, and subsequent child development. Applications will be directed to one of three committees whose respective foci are:    * Cell Lineage and Differentiation  * Gene Discovery and Translational Medicine  * Social and Behavioral Sciences. This involves family units and includes genes, toxicants, social  determinants that adversely affect language or behavior, especially if involving premature  infants or children with birth defects.

American Sign Language video translation of the Alcatraz Cell House Audio Tour - 0 views

    The objective of this Task Agreement is to produce and distribute an American Sign Language video translation of the Alcatraz Cell House Audio Tour, which is circulated on handheld video players. Approximately 1.6 million visitors travel to Alcatraz Island every year with a vast majority of them using the Cell House Audio Tour. In 2013, the GGNRA Accessibility Coordinator accommodated over 60 requests for an American Sign Language translator. Furthermore, those that require a translator must do so online, five days in advance. This Task Agreement will better serve the public by allowing those who require such a service to navigate independently and without the inconvenience of making advance reservations. The GGNPC has exclusive rights to distribute the Alcatraz Cell House Audio Tour for the NPS and owns the intellectual property of the content they provide for its production (script, interviews with former guards and inmates, etc.). Antenna International produces the Cell House Audio Tour as the sole provider under contract with the GGNPC and retains ownership of intellectual property for any components they provided to the production (music, sound effects, etc.).
