The purpose of this FOA is to support investigator-initiated R01 applications that will inform our understanding of the typical and atypical patterns of language and literacy development of dual language learners (DLLs) in the United States. Applicants are encouraged to take advantage of advances in the language sciences and related fields to identify and clarify specific cognitive, linguistic, neurobiological, and sociocultural factors associated with normal and impaired language and literacy acquisition in young DLL populations.

This funding partnership between the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) supports projects to develop and advance knowledge concerning endangered human languages. Made urgent by the imminent death of roughly half of the approximately 7000 currently used languages, this effort aims to exploit advances in information technology to build computational infrastructure for endangered language research. The program supports projects that contribute to data management and archiving, and to the development of the next generation of researchers. Funding can support fieldwork and other activities relevant to the digital recording, documenting, and archiving of endangered languages, including the preparation of lexicons, grammars, text samples, and databases. Funding will be available in the form of one- to three-year senior research grants as well as fellowships from six to twelve months.

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage basic or clinical research applications that investigate central neural mechanisms of age-related hearing loss in older adults and/or in relevant animal models. This FOA is driven by the need to address a major gap in our understanding of the central pathways and neural networks that are involved in hearing loss, and how these may be altered in the context of the aging brain, as well as how natural aging influences central auditory plasticity.

The Administration for Children and Families, Administration for Native Americans announces the availability of Fiscal Year 2018 funds for the Native American Language Preservation and Maintenance - Esther Martinez Immersion (EMI) program. EMI provides funding for community-based projects that ensure continuing vitality of Native languages through immersion-based instruction. Programs funded under the EMI funding opportunity announcement must meet the requirements for either a Native American Language Nest, or a Native American Survival School. As defined by Esther Martinez Native American Languages Preservation Act (42 U.S.C. 2991b-3(b)(7). Pub. L. 109-394), Language Nests are "site-based educational programs that provide child care and instruction in a Native American language for at least 10 children under the age of seven for an average of at least 500 hours per child," and Native American Survival Schools are "site based educational programs for school-aged students that provide at least 500 hours per year per student of Native American language instruction to at least 15 students".

The purpose of the NIDCD Research Career Enhancement Award for Established Investigators (K18) program is to enable established, proven investigators to augment or redirect their research programs through the acquisition of new research skills to answer questions relevant to the hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech and language sciences. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed specifically for applicants proposing to serve as the lead investigator of an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or a separate ancillary study to an existing trial, as part of their research and career development. Applicants not planning an independent clinical trial, or proposing to gain research experience in a clinical trial led by another investigator, must apply to companion FOA PAR-18-NNN

To that end, grants of up to $150,000 over two years will be awarded in support of basic and translational research projects related to A-T. Proposals from junior investigators, from scientists in related disciplines, and from individuals with innovative new ideas for A-T research are particularly encouraged, as are proposals from laboratories and teams from industry as well as teaching universities.

The mission of the Consortium for Applied Studies in Jewish Education (CASJE) is to stimulate and support the work of researchers, practitioners, and funders who believe that evidence should drive decision-making in Jewish education. To that end, CASJE is inviting applications for research that can make a difference in how Jewish education is practiced. Two grants of up to $30,000 will be awarded in support of time-concentrated research connected to the consortium's areas of focus, which include Jewish educational leadership, Jewish early-childhood education, Hebrew language education, Israel education, and the career trajectories of Jewish educators. Only empirical research will be funded; conceptual inquiries or literature reviews are not eligible for funding.

The Embassy of the United States of America in Argentina invites proposal submissions to create a curriculum for English language students of intermediate and advanced ability to study both English and journalism, based on the UNESCO publication Journalism, 'Fake News' and Disinformation: A Handbook for Journalism Education and Training ("Curriculum"). The Conference on College Composition and Communication is inviting proposals for its Research Initiative, which is designed to advance the organization's mission to advocate for broad and evolving definitions of literacy, communication, rhetoric, and writing (including multi-modal discourse, digital communication, and diverse language practices) and empower individuals and communities through bold, creative research. Through the program, grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded in support of proposals designed to investigate key challenges faced by literacy, communication, rhetoric and writing instructors and administrators in their classrooms and programs. Proposals should directly address the impact that the research might have on disciplinary and public discourse about these topics and  convey results in at least two final products: one that is addressed to a scholarly audience of researchers and teachers in the field, and one for a clearly specified audience beyond those in the field.

Europeana Research has allocated a budget of EUR 25,000 for events, such as conferences, workshops, series of seminars, summer schools. The aim is to facilate the dialogue between researchers and cultural heritage professionals around the theme: Digital Cultural Heritage for Open Science. The main organising institution must be based in the European Union, but you can also apply as a network.

The U.S. Embassy Baku Public Affairs Section (PAS) is pleased to announce that funding is available through its Annual Program Statement. U.S. Embassy Baku's Annual Program Statement solicits proposals for projects that further the U.S. Mission's public diplomacy goals of expanding and strengthening people-to-people ties between Azerbaijan and the United States, engaging with local media, and building and strengthening local partners through the specific objectives listed. Public diplomacy programming includes cultural programming, educational exchanges, workshops and training for entrepreneurs, English-language programming, innovation in and improvement of education systems, promoting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, and promoting professional journalism. All programs must include a connection with American culture, expert(s), organization(s), or institution(s) in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policies and perspectives.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program supports the success of all children who are deaf or hard of hearing (D/HH) in the United States by helping to ensure they receive a newborn screening, early diagnosis, and timely intervention services. Without timely screening, diagnosis and intervention, children who are D/HH lose valuable time in gaining the skills that will put them on a trajectory to have language on par with their hearing peers in kindergarten and be ready to succeed in school. Additionally, among children who are D/HH, delays in language development are more difficult to remediate with late diagnosis and intervention. While collaborative efforts by CDC, states, and other partners have helped lead to the early identification of thousands of children who are D/HH each year, their developmental and language outcomes are often unknown, and these data are not routinely collected by CDC or state EHDI programs. Furthermore, it is currently unclear what actions beyond early identification should be taken by public health to help reduce adverse consequences of hearing loss and ensure that children who are D/HH are ready for success in early childhood. The current lack of public health capacity to document and assess the intervention services and associated outcomes of early-identified children who are D/HH at the state and national level makes it challenging to: Assess the developmental progress to ensure all children who are D/HH are achieving age-appropriate milestones and are ready for success in early childhood; Identify strategies, in addition to those beyond early identification, to help assess and reduce adverse consequences of hearing loss; Assess and document the success and impact of EHDI activities across the United States.

The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The overarching goal of this R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on: The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The U.S. Embassy Tokyo Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out an exchange program focusing on the English language for Japanese and Korea high school to improve English language capacity for participants and to encourage stronger Japan-Republic of Korea (ROK) relations and U.S.-Japan-ROK trilateral cooperation.

The purpose of the Mentored Quantitative Research Career Development Award (K25) is to attract to NIH-relevant research those investigators whose quantitative science and engineering research has thus far not been focused primarily on questions of health and disease. The K25 award will provide support and "protected time" for a period of supervised study and research for productive professionals with quantitative (e.g., mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, imaging science, informatics, physics, chemistry) and engineering backgrounds to integrate their expertise with NIH-relevant research. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is designed specifically for applicants proposing research that does not involve leading an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or an ancillary clinical trial. Applicants to this FOA are permitted to propose research experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor. Applicants proposing a clinical trial or an ancillary clinical trial as lead investigator, should apply to the companion FOA ().

The purpose of the NIH Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) is to provide support and protected time (three to five years) for an intensive, supervised career development experience in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical sciences leading to research independence. Although all of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) use this support mechanism to support career development experiences that lead to research independence, some ICs use the K01 award for individuals who propose to train in a new field or for individuals who have had a hiatus in their research career because of illness or pressing family circumstances. Other ICs offer separate K01 FOAs intended to increase research workforce diversity.

he U.S. Embassy Macedonia Public Affairs Section is pleased to announce that funding is available for academic year English language teaching programs that offer primary and/or secondary school students in Macedonia innovative and experiential learning opportunities to improve their English and learn about the United States. Programs should meet at least once a week throughout the academic school year, beginning in September 2017. The main objectives of this program are to: * Provide opportunities for disadvantaged students to improve their English speaking ability. * Teach about American culture and values through English language learning. * Connect students in the United States and Macedonia, so that they can learn more about each other and build relationships. * Promote inter-ethnic understanding among students in Macedonia. Successful applicants should build off of current and previous English language programs run by U.S. Embassy Macedonia, including the Dreams and Friendship and Graphic Novel Programs
