Individual translators who meet the publication requirements that are listed below are eligible to apply. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. See "How to Prepare and Submit an Application" for the documentation that is required to demonstrate eligibility. Ineligible applications will be rejected without panel review. An individual may submit only one application for FY 2015 funding. You may not apply for both a Translation Project under this deadline (December 9, 2013) and a Literature Fellowship (in prose or poetry) under the 2014 deadline (when fellowships in poetry are offered). As a part of its current initiative, Standing Together: The Humanities and the Experience of War, the National Endowment for the Humanities offers the Dialogues on the Experience of War program. The program supports the study and discussion of important humanities sources about war, in the belief that these sources can help U.S. military veterans and others to think more deeply about the issues raised by war and military service. The humanities sources can be drawn from history, philosophy, literature, and film-and they may and should be supplemented by testimonials from those who have served. The discussions are intended to promote serious exploration of important questions about the nature of duty, heroism, suffering, loyalty, and patriotism.

Indiana University's African Studies Program invites applications for a short-term residency to conduct research in IU's Libraries/African Studies Collections. Indiana University's African Studies Collection ranks among the top tier of such collections in the U.S. It comprises more than 150,000 volumes of monographs and over 700 serial subscriptions as well as materials in other formats (e.g. posters, slides, film/video, audio tapes, etc). The focus of the collection is on the humanities and social sciences, supporting a wide range of students and faculty in such departments as history, anthropology, fine arts, theatre & drama, literature, folklore, ethnomusicology, communication and culture, linguistics, religious studies, education, political science, business, economics, journalism, and applied health science. This residency is intended for faculty members at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or at other U.S. colleges / universities with limited Africa collections, to conduct research in Indiana University's libraries and special collections in support of curriculum development or publications. The successful applicant will receive an award that covers domestic travel, accommodations in Bloomington, and a modest per diem for up to two weeks of research. The award will cover expenses up to a maximum of $2,000 and must be used before August 01, 2014. The recipient is expected to reside in Bloomington during the period of her/his award.

University College Cork invites applications for scholarships in the four-year structured PhD programme in Digital Arts and Humanities (DAH). Successful candidates will be registered with the full-time inter-disciplinary structured PhD programme co-ordinated with an all-Irish university consortium. Candidates will pursue their individual research agendas within the program, based on projects developed from proposals which they provide during the application process. ARIT / National Endowment for the Humanities Advanced Fellowships for Research in Turkey, 2014-2015. ARIT/NEH Advanced Fellowships cover all fields of the humanities, including prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history for applicants who have completed their academic training. The fellowships may be held for terms ranging from four months to a full year. Stipends range from $16,800 to 50,400. ARIT Fellowships for Research in Turkey, 2014-2015. ARIT Fellowships are offered for research in ancient, medieval, or modern times, in any field of the humanities and social sciences. Post-doctoral and advanced doctoral fellowships may be held for various terms, for terms from one to three months up to one academic year. Stipends range from $4,000 to $16,000. Applications for ARIT fellowships must be submitted to ARIT before November 1, 2013. The fellowship committee will notify applicants by late January, 2014. ARIT LANGUAGE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS 2014. ARIT - Princeton Summer Fellowships for Intensive Advanced Turkish Language at Bogazici University, Istanbul, summer 2014. The program supports intensive study of advanced Turkish language at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey, including air fare, tuition, and stipend. The application deadline is February 1.

EES offers residential research scholar grants to scholars working on policy relevant projects on the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia. The Fachbereich Germanistik of the University of Salzburg invites expressions of interest from potential applicants for a Franz Werfel Grant from the Austrian Exchange Service (OeAD). The Franz Werfel Programme is aimed at international scholars who have proven experience of teaching Austrian literature at university level and whose research requires them to spend an extended period in Austria.

The American Research Institute in Turkey takes pleasure in inviting applications for one to three advanced long-term fellowships for research in Turkey made possible by support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The fields of study cover all periods of history in the general range of the humanities and include humanistically oriented aspects of the social sciences, prehistory, history, art, archaeology, literature, and linguistics, as well as interdisciplinary aspects of cultural history. The fellowships tenures range from four to twelve continuous months during 2018-2019. Stipends of $4,200 per month are awarded on the basis of individual proposals. Scholars who have completed their formal training by the application deadline and plan to carry out research in Turkey for four months or longer may apply. They may be U.S. citizens or three-year residents of the U.S. Please consult ARIT U.S. office for questions of eligibility. Advanced scholars may also apply for ARIT Fellowships in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

EES offers summer research scholarships to scholars working on policy relevant projects on East Europe. While Southeast Europe remains a primary focus, projects on Central Europe and the Baltic states are again eligible. Projects should focus on fields in the social sciences and humanities including, but not limited to: Anthropology, History, Political Science, Slavic Languages and Literatures, and Sociology. All projects should aim to highlight their potential policy relevance.

With the goals of further strengthening the fundamentals of international research into Japan and deepening understanding of Japan through researchers' activities, the Hakuho Foundation Japanese Research Fellowship invites leading international researchers of the Japanese language, Japanese language instruction, Japanese literature and Japanese culture to Japan to conduct residential research.

SEFER Center awards grants to support research projects in multiple disciplines on Russian Jewry. The subject of the research may comprise different aspects of Jewish history and culture within the territory of former Russian Empire during various historical periods from the ancient times till post-soviet contemporary period. The grant covers the entire variety of humanitarian and social areas (history, literature, linguistics, art history, education, philosophy, religion studies, sociology, political science etc.), as well as interdisciplinary studies. The Center provides researchers, teachers and PhD students with financial support for implementation of academic researches, preparation of monographs, articles and dissertation theses. The grant program is intended for researches from Russia and abroad, including Europe, USA and Canada, Israel and Australia.

Through the program, translators, and the writers whose work is being translated, which will have the opportunity to speak with the writer whose work they are translating about text-specific questions. The lab also will serve as an essential community-builder for English-language translators who are working to increase the amount of international literature available to English-language readers. All text-based projects - fiction, nonfiction, theater, film, poetry, etc. - are eligible.

The mission of the Consortium for Applied Studies in Jewish Education (CASJE) is to stimulate and support the work of researchers, practitioners, and funders who believe that evidence should drive decision-making in Jewish education. To that end, CASJE is inviting applications for research that can make a difference in how Jewish education is practiced. Two grants of up to $30,000 will be awarded in support of time-concentrated research connected to the consortium's areas of focus, which include Jewish educational leadership, Jewish early-childhood education, Hebrew language education, Israel education, and the career trajectories of Jewish educators. Only empirical research will be funded; conceptual inquiries or literature reviews are not eligible for funding.

At this year's conference of the Research Centre for European Classicism, the focus will be on the Weimar as well as on the Viennesse Classicism. How are those two epochs connected and refer to the same justification context? And to which extent are they the reference for the literature and musical historiography in the 19th century? The implications of the contruction of those epochs will be central at this conference. 

The Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission Prize for the Translation of Japanese Literature - Through the program, a prize of up to $6,000 will be awarded for the best translation of a modern Japanese or classical work. The prize may be divided between equally distinguished translations. To be eligible, translators must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. The Lindsley and Masao Miyoshi Translation Prizes and Grants - Through the program, a total of $6,000 in prizes and grants will be awarded to outstanding translations by non-citizens or non-permanent-residents of the United States for translations of particular scholarly merit or significance; promising translations-in-progress; subventions for forthcoming publication of especially deserving translations; and, in rare cases, lifetime achievement awards for translators with particularly distinguished careers. To be eligible, translations must be of book-length Japanese works, including novels, collections of short stories, manga, essays, memoirs, drama, or poetry. Submissions may be unpublished manuscripts, works in progress, or books published during the two years prior to the prize year (for the current prize, this means publication dates in 2018 and after).

"The Public Humanities Projects program supports projects that bring the ideas and insights of the humanities to life for general audiences through in-person programming.  Projects must engage humanities scholarship to analyze significant themes in disciplines such as history, literature, ethics, and art history. Public Humanities Projects supports projects in three program categories (Exhibitions, Historic Places, and Humanities Discussions), and at two funding levels (Planning and Implementation). Regardless of proposed activity, NEH encourages applicants to explore humanities ideas through multiple formats.  Proposed projects may include complementary components: for example, a museum exhibition might be accompanied by a website or mobile app. Small and mid-sized organizations are especially encouraged to apply.  We likewise welcome humanities projects tailored to particular groups, such as families, youth (including K-12 students in informal educational settings), underserved communities, and veterans. Applicants are advised to consider developing partnerships with other institutions, particularly organizations such as cultural alliances, broadcast media stations, cultural heritage centers, state humanities councils, veterans' centers, and libraries."
