The Embassy of the United States of America in Guatemala's Public Affairs Section (PAS) invites interested individuals and non-profit organizations from Guatemala and the United States to submit proposals for projects requesting funding. A panel comprised of Embassy staff members will review each complete proposal received before the deadline of midnight, Wednesday, February 20, 2013 and select five to eight proposals for funding. At least one, but no more than three, of the selected proposals will be from individuals or organizations who have never received U.S. Government funding. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by March 31, 2013. Please note that selected proposals will have to complete additional forms and registration documents within thirty days of notification in order to receive funding. Proposals should fit under one of four main themes: 1) Supporting the rule of law and citizen security 2) Encouraging economic growth and sustainable environmental practices 3) Improving health and education 4) Increasing mutual understanding between the United States and Guatemala Important notes: - All potential applicants should be knowledgeable of similar existing programs in Guatemala, including those funded by the U.S. Government, in order to avoid duplication of effort.
AUTHORITY: Grant making authority for the Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (Title VIII) is contained in the Soviet-Eastern European Research and Training Act of 1983 (22 U.S.C. 4501-4508, as amended). PURPOSE: Congress determined that independently verified factual knowledge about the countries of Eastern Europe and Eurasia is critical to the national security of the United States, the furtherance of its national interests in the conduct of foreign relations, and the prudent management of its domestic affairs. Congress further concluded that providing a stable and dedicated source of financial support for Title VIII functions supplementing other Federal, State, local, regional, and private sector funding is critical to maintaining this important research and training on a long-term, national scale. The development and maintenance of U.S. expertise on these regions depends upon a national capability for advanced research by highly trained specialists with in-country experience. These specialists are a national resource available for service in and out of Government. In order to guarantee the existence of that knowledge and the capability to sustain it, certain essential functions are necessary, including: a. graduate training; b. advanced research; c. public dissemination of research data, methods, and findings; d. contact and collaboration among Government and private specialists; and e. The Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) is pleased to announce "Korean Studies Grant 2013". The aim of Korean Studies Grant is to deepen the world's understanding of Korea by supporting academic activities that will help spread Korean studies and nurture talented scholars of Korean studies.
The research remit of the BIAA covers Turkey and the Black Sea. BIAA research engages with Turkey as a crossroads, Turkey's interactions with the Black Sea region and its other neighbours as well as Turkey as a distinctive creative and cultural hub in a global and neighbourhood perspective. The overall focus of applications should be on History, Society and Culture. The BIAA has primary experience and resources, including a first-class library in Ankara, as an archaeological and historical research centre. It prioritizes research projects with a historical dimension, even when the prime focus is on contemporary Turkey or climate issues. In line with the mission of the BIAA as a centre of excellence for archaeological research, substantial funds will be set aside for selected field projects running over a number of years. Currently three or four projects of this type are supported.
Applications for funding should fit within the five Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI) which define the current shape of BIAA research policy:
* Climate and its historical and current impact
* Migration, Minorities and regional identities
* Religion and politics in historical perspective
* Habitat and Settlement in prehistoric, historical and environmental perspective
* Cultural heritage, society and the economy
Proposals may relate to all historical periods up to contemporary Turkey.
The Academy welcomes emerging as well as established scholars, writers, and professionals who wish to engage in independent study in Berlin. Around two dozen Berlin Prizes are conferred annually. Past Berlin Prize recipients have included historians, economists, poets, art historians, journalists, legal scholars, anthropologists, musicologists, public policy experts, and writers, among others. The Academy does not accept project proposals in mathematics and the hard sciences.
In addition to placing a high priority on the independent work of its fellows, the Academy is in a unique position to aid fellows in establishing professional and general networks both in Berlin and beyond. The Academy's public outreach, which facilitates the introduction of a fellow's work to a wider audience, serves its mission of fostering transatlantic ties through cultural exchange.
Fellowships are typically awarded for an academic semester or, in some cases, for an entire academic year. Only the Bosch Fellowships in Public Policy may be for shorter stays of six to eight weeks. Fellowship benefits include round-trip airfare, housing at the Academy, partial board, and a stipend of $5,000 per month. The Academy's furnished apartments at the Hans Arnhold Center are suitable for individuals and couples; accommodations are available for families with children at the Hans Arnhold Center or at nearby apartments. All fellows are expected to reside at the Hans Arnhold Center during the entire term of the award.

U.S. Consulate General Chiang Mai announces the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for a new program whose goal is to provide high school educational opportunities for underprivileged Thai girls who would otherwise be unable to attend. The program will provide $45,000 to fund a minimum of 30 girls through two years of upper secondary school (preference will be given to groups who can demonstrate the ability to stretch funds to help more girls without sacrificing the quality of their education, for example by matching funds).
The Tweedie Exploration Fellowships for Students, or Tweedie Fund, grants financial help for research projects taking place in lesser-known regions of the world. The fund only makes awards to students or other candidates who are not in career-level employment.
There are several restrictions on applications to the Tweedie fund:
Applicants must have a degree and appropriate experience for any research.
Applicants must be unsalaried (i.e. not in career-level employment).
Applicants should be looking to undertake ethnological, sociological or linguistic research in lesser-known regions of the world. Particular preference is given to research based in areas of Asia and Northern Africa.
Archaeological excavations are specifically excluded from receiving money from the fund.

Fellows are provided with a workspace, and are expected to take an active role in the research activities and academic life of Media@McGill (participation in conferences, seminars, etc.). They may also have the possibility of teaching a course within the Department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill.
Eligibility: The Media@McGill Postdoctoral Fellowship is open to both national and international scholars who completed their doctoral degrees in a university other than McGill no earlier than June 1, 2010. Candidates must have received their PhD by May 1, 2014. Fluency in English is essential; working knowledge of French is an asset.
Value and Duration: The stipend for the Media@McGill Postdoctoral Fellowship is $45,000 CAD for 12 months (this includes a travel research stipend) beginning in the first week of September 2014.
Emphasis is placed on novel collaborations that bring together scientists preferably from different disciplines (e.g. from chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering) to focus on problems in the life sciences.
The research teams must be international. The principal applicant must be from one of the eligible countries. However, other participating scientists and laboratories may be situated anywhere in the world.

The Expeditions Council is an editorially driven grant program that supports exploration and adventure worldwide. Proposed projects must have the potential to yield compelling stories and images. Applications are also judged on the qualifications of applicants and their teams, and on the project's merit, uniqueness and safety protocols. The Council consists of representatives of National Geographic editorial divisions (magazines, television, books, website, and so on) who review and vote on grant applications, as well as an advisory board of external consultants.
While the Expeditions Council funds a broad range of exploration and adventure, if a project is based on scientific inquiry, applicants must provide detailed methodology. In addition, all projects must adhere to applicable scientific or professional ethical standards, which are outlined in the grant application and are subject to scientific review
