HotChalk Lesson Plans offer a multitude of online resources in regards to lesson plans. The plans can be modified to fit a specific grade level and it shows what other subject area the lesson plan overlaps with. The lesson plans list materials needed to complete the activity and provides related lesson plans at the bottom of the page. Teachers can also share their own lesson plans on the page. There is also a tab for news and tips that teachers can look at to aid in different types of learning.

This section of the NAfME website gives members access to lesson plans attached to standards. You can search the database based on specific content (band, chorus, collegiate, etc.), based on specific standards, or based on grade level. This area of the website also brings up relevant articles to what you are searching to give you helpful tips and/or links to relevant websites.

K-12 Resources for Music Education website is a valuable and resourceful page filled with endless opportunities for all types of music educators in grades K-12. There are specific tabs for band, choir, orchestra, classroom, and all music. Once you click on these you are taken to a variety of sites with a variety of topics/activities. This is definitely a resource to have at the top of your list for K-12 reference material.

Midnight Music is designed to simply technology for music teachers. The YouTube channel provides tips, tutorials and lessons and advice. With new videos posted each week there is an abundance of information available to any music teachers. This site could be useful with navigating which software to use for certain projects or discovering what technologies are available. The channel's owner is not based in Australia and may make some references to grade level that are not familiar to teachers in other countries.

The Singing Classroom is a paid subscription that provides video lesson plans and digital resources for elementary music teachers PK3-5th Grade. Each song displays the musical content and focus of the lesson. The website allows you to search with a variety of options ranging from grade level, musical content, and even theme. The video tutorials expertly guide teachers (or substitutes) on how to teach the lesson.

An online marketplace for teachers to buy and sell classroom resources. I have found many free and low cost worksheets, visuals and even lesson plans online. Resources include worksheets for pitch, rhythm, composers, specific songs, like the Star Spangled Banner and so much more. A valuable resource for a teacher who does not want to "recreate the wheel" OR who is creative and likes to "recreate the wheel" and earn a little cash doing it!

Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT), is a great resource for lesson plans, bulletin boards, and so much more! While most resources are free, some you do have to pay for.

This would be a great source for teachers who need the documentation for certain topics. This website provides every grade level, along with every subject being provided. There are lots of information on this source for free, and there are also many sources that are not free. But it depends on what you want or need. The purpose of this sources is to give teachers a wide range of things, that they may need in their classrooms.

The Army Field Band provides a free jazz resource to the public. It is called Perspectives: Resources for Jazz Education. They provide royalty free big band charts from grade 1 through 6. They also have posters and other multimedia resources that include videos, education reference recordings, and a video series on the history of the big band and the individual instruments roll in the band.

This article references learning theories for teaching vibrato. I will use it for dissecting vibrato for 5th grade.

Music Ace is general music education software that comes in commercial and education editions. The software is installed on a computer (not online/cloud), and includes a variety of games and activities which focus on general music theory. There is also doodle pad feature which allows the user to compose using a variety of instruments and sounds. This software title is generally appropriate for elementary grades, but may have usability for other age groups too.

MusicFirst suggests this LMS comprehensive aural theory software designed for grades K-12 and beyond. Since it was created in 1990, it has been monitor and enhanced to provide a tool for educators and students. It is cloud-based, supported by educators with decades of knowledge and skill in integrating technology into the music classroom. Auralia promotes student ownership of learning through the appropriately paced lessons and exams which provide immediate formative feedback.

Hooktheory is a DAW that allows musicians to create music based on chords. They offer access to two volumes of music theory book for students and teachers, as well as the ability to create assignments and keep a grade book for music teachers.

This is a VERY old website, but if you teach square dancing (we do "Camptown Races" in fourth grade), this is the resource for you! You can click around to find detailed names and instructions for probably any square dance move you can think of, and each one also includes an animated GIF showing what each move should look like. This was a great resource for me as a non-dancer!

If you teach any sea chanteys, you might be able to find some information as well as an authentic recording of them at this website by the Hyde Street Chantey Singers. (I've found that Firefox works best for this website, for some reason.) I use this site when we learn "John Kanaka" in fifth grade.

This website is one of my favorite ways to introduce new musical ideas to K5 and 1st grade students. Older students love using it as well. The lesson plans, games, and activities are all aligned and geared toward specific subjects. These also make great sub lessons.

Quaver has a large amount of lessons available for teaching from PreK-8th grade. It is probably the most complete music teaching software resource I have found. This could be used in any general music class as well as ensembles. It is much more interactive than a textbook and the interface changes as the grade level increases so that it remains engaging for the age group.

Resource for the University of Florida Masters Program. This interactive program allows teachers to more effectively reach students through games, movement, song, and dance.

This website is awesome! I call it "Quaver the Saver." When you can't figure out how to explain a concept clearly, show a Quaver DVD. The DVDs are You can purchase the DVDs and access a multitude of resources with a subscription. Great for Elementary General Music.

Beth's Music Notes is another great blog to follow that includes tons of songs and most free if you join. I like to follow her blog to find new songs to bring to the classroom.

This blog incorporates a multitude of songs and lessons to go with different every day musical concepts. There are lessons and posts regarding rhythmic concepts, melodic concepts, Orff arrangements, and recorder songs. Songs on the website are organized into different categories so they are easy to look through and extra resources are linked to help with sub plans, lesson plans, assessments, and even behavior.

A blog, shop, and resource for music teaching. Primarily offers songs, resources, and games in the Kodaly methodology. Posts and songs are searchable by date, grade, and other criteria. Songs and resources are available for purchase.

Carnegie Hall provides music educators with resources to use with students in K-5. There are various activities, exercises, class games, and assessments that incorporate songs, instruments, and various styles of music. Some concepts taught include rhythm, meter, form, pitch, expressive qualities, and overall performance. Activities and resources are categorized by appropriate grade levels. This website also links to other educational resources, programs, and opportunities that music educators can utilize to benefit themselves and their music students.

Music Teacher Tools & Resources is a resource for teachers in grades K-5 and includes lesson plans, assessments, listening examples, activities, and videos. The resources also integrate the elements of music with engaging activities. A wonderful resource to use and/or complement any lesson.

The purpose of this website is to provide music educators with tools that address music fundamentals. The site also had digital music learning options that provide professional development for educators as well as connect students to diverse musical communities. The resource provides unique learning opportunities for elementary students.

The graphics on this website are amazing- any child would enjoy browsing through and learning about musical instruments, composition, and composers. Also very neat is the game where you can "play" different musical instruments. The numbers on the computer keypad become notes in a scale!

This is owned and operated by the San Francisco symphony. It requires Adobe flash so desktop computers are suggested for use.

Folk Song Collection that may be used to help find songs for teaching almost any musical concept. Primary and Secondary Sources with authentic notation and referenced material.

The American Folk Song Collection is a website that music educators can use to search for hundreds of folk songs. Each song includes a PDF of lyrics, melody, game/dance directions, song analysis, rhythms, and original source (some also include recordings). The website also includes basic information about the Kodaly approach.

The Kodaly Center website is a valuable resource for all music teachers and especially those teaching elementary general music. The website contains videos about the history and philosophy of Kodaly, as well as recent news and upcoming events being held at the center. The most impressive feature of this site is the pubic domain library of songs and the precise ways they are categorized. Songs can be searched and categorized by: Origin, region, state, subject, song type, grade level, tonal center, scale, tone set, melodic range, melodic element, melodic motive, rhythmic element, meter, form, formal analysis and game type. Once you find a song you can see all of this detailed information as well as (in most cases) listen to the song, often sung by a child or group of children.
