Educator David Pope aims to provide his audience with effective strategies for selecting repertoire that compliments their ensembles. His list includes but is not limited to setting realistic expectations, knowing the demographics of your ensemble, determining the curricular goals or outcomes to be achieved through the repertoire, and connecting with each student; additional information pertaining to each of these four strategies, especially their impact on the repertoire selection process, has been summarized in the article as well.

This page provides a list of repertoire that is suitable for young bands. Along with the titles, arrangers and publisher, it provides a brief description as well as length of piece. This is a great resource with young bands wanting to play higher level repertoire. 

This PDF list of standard repertoire for intermediate bands includes composer, title, difficulty level, and description about the primary thematic and musical concepts of each piece.

I have compiled a listening library for students to utilize. The repertoire on this page is sorted by instrument and presents students with access to the standard repertoire for their instrument, performed by a musician of distinction on that instrument.

An extremely useful site to peruse free music for download in various categories like orchestral and chamber music parts. I have frequently used this for myself and students when faced with auditions that I/they need an "original" part to.

A band director friend of mine told me about this site last summer.  There is a password, which is:  Grainger The Band Director Posthaven began with the Band Director Facebook page and the originator of the page, Brian Wis, wanted a place to share files with other band directors. This is a great resource in which band directors share files and other resources to assist the daily needs of a band director.  These files include posters, music (warm-ups, chorales, technique builders, curriculum guides, recruit tools and ideas, rubrics, music appreciation activities, band room rule/policies, how to deal with administrators, and more).  With the resources being submitted by band directors, this is a great source for new band directors and band directors at new schools.   I have used this site to find pitch tendency charts, scale sheets, and three excellent warm-ups.  You can spend hours upon hours searching this site.  Most of the files are PDFs which allows to open and print form any computer with a PDF reader.  There are some Microsoft Office documents which can be a problem.  Be mindful that some of the music repertoire may needs some adjustments for your ensembles needs or you have to add instruments to the instrumentation (missing Baritone TC, Oboe, Bassoon, or Baritone Sax parts)

Music K8 is a publication company that provides resources (physical and digital) for elementary/general music teachers. Most of the musical content is organized and packaged around various themes, such as seasons or holidays. There is also a magazine (for teachers) that is published quarterly containing a variety of repertoire and high quality mp3 accompaniment tracks. Individual songs can also be previewed and purchased digitally.

This website is used to help me find new repertoire to work on with my students. Teaching concepts through pieces of music is important even at the younger level. This resource helps me find music for all ages in my school.

This is a wonderful resource for warm ups geared at making great tonal control and projection on a tuba. Some of the exercises are developed from famous tuba parts in the orchestral repertoire, and some have been developed by the great Arnold Jacobs.

Professional Organization that can provide music advocacy and an avenue for choral music resources and advancements. Website offers music lists that only include quality repertoire.

The Singing Classroom is a paid subscription that provides video lesson plans and digital resources for elementary music teachers PK3-5th Grade. Each song displays the musical content and focus of the lesson. The website allows you to search with a variety of options ranging from grade level, musical content, and even theme. The video tutorials expertly guide teachers (or substitutes) on how to teach the lesson.

SmartMusic has interactive, web-based editions of many popular instrumental, band, chorus, and orchestra method books, as well as a massive collection of sheet music. Students can listen, loop, record and submit pieces they are working on. A neat feature of SmartMusic is that students can click on a single note and hear how it is supposed to sound, and how to finger that note on their instrument. Students can adjust tempo, play with a metronome, use a tuner to check pitch, and more. A paid subscription allows teachers to create online classrooms for assigning and assessing work, and have access to the entire SmartMusic catalog.

SmartMusic is music learning software for music teachers and students. It makes music learning easy and fun. Students can continue their learning outside school. Teachers can also assess students outside the school wall. Smart music is good for rehearsals because a student can rehearse at home when the teacher is listening in and correcting him/her from anywhere else. It is easy to access and a good resource for music classes.

The purpose of the resource is for student and teacher practice/classroom tools. The content included in this source is a subscription to a web-based service that allows students and educators access to sight-reading material, repertoire accompaniments, and method books. Could be useful for encouraging student practice

This is a great website to use for free printable piano, vocal, guitar, fiddle and violin music.  There are varied levels for the piano music, which also has a wide range of repertoire.  Each song for piano also comes in different versions, either right hand only, chords added with the right hand, fingerings written in or the entire song.  

This website has a large database of public domain sheet music that is on a beginner student level. This website is a great resource for pulling repertoire for beginner students.

Blog with ideas and resources for you instrumental music classes. Of course has ideas on how to utilize SmartMusic, but also has many ideas on how to switch up rehearsals and keep students engaged.

This Google Doc is a collection of band music that members of the Facebook Band Director's Group have curated. To add a piece to the list, teachers must have taught it twice and deemed it to be a worthy piece of repertoire. Since this is in the format of a Google Doc, it is easily sortable by grade or composer.

8notes.com provides an incredible variety of free and subscription based printable music for instrumentalists and vocalists. The site categorizes the music by instrument, composer, level of difficulty, etc. This is a great resource to share with students who are looking for solo or ensemble repertoire ideas, in addition to rock/pop, jazz, and world music selections for personal enrichment and entertainment purposes.

His four-part lecture dives into the history of jazz and the most important moments of jazz history. This lecture explores the development of repertoire and techniques used in jazz performance. The second lecture discusses the techniques and traditions of jazz improvisation. Provided by Holy Names University in conjunction with their Kodály Center, "American Folk Song Collection" is a valuable resource for music teachers, parents, choral conductors and composers.Exploring the collection of repertoire allows a music teacher of any grade level the opportunity to obtain musical scores, lyrics, song analyses and background information. All applicable to constructing curriculum, selecting repertoire for a performance ensemble or building a personal database of favorite songs. Recordings provided by the Library of Congress and other resources and short films on the history and work of Zoltán Kodály, make this a strong resource for instructional planning and classroom implementation.
