The music videos are good for developing students' ability to respond and connect with music. These are not tutorials, but discussions about various music-related topics.

This is the video "Modern Electric Bass" in which the famous bassist, Jaco Pastorius, explains his views to approaching not only the bass but music. He explains the importance of musicians approaching music in a melodic fashion and the importance of working hard to become proficient. He further explains the importance of developing both listening and reading skills, improvisation, and gives demonstrations of each concept.

Slidearea.com is the website for the principal trombonist of the New York Philharmonic, Joe Alessi. Within this site are resources that may be used to supplement lessons for trombone students. The tips that are listed are very practical and assist with developing tone, range, and technique. Within the website are also links to information regarding the Julliard School, recordings, mentor professors, Griego Mouthpieces, Smartmusic, Edwards Instruments, Aleesi Publications, and the Alessi Seminar.

This is a great website for learning about the history and development of Jazz in the United States. It includes geography, musician biographies, information about musical instruments, and more!

PBS offers an amazing companion site to the 2000 Ken Burns documentary, Jazz.

MOOCs are online courses, many from top universities, some of them include a completion certificate or the equivalent. How to play the guitar is offered by UC Berkley. Other music classes are listed here, too.

TeacherVision.com is not a music education website exclusively, however, it provides many great resources that music teachers may find interesting or helpful. The site contains printables, graphic organizers, lesson plans, tips on classroom management, and great links to apps and software.

This is a simple online metronome tool that can be used in a pinch during practice. The makers of this website are also currently working on a database where musicians can share practice tips.

This is a resource to gather public domain sheet music and lyrics. It is good for developing your own lessons and avoiding copyright, and also for programs which may not have a lot of money for new music. There are also composer pages, although I don't think these are exactly helpful. It lacks information other than birthdays and a general sentence explaining who the composer is.

This link provides information about the annual New England Band Directors Institute conference. This conference takes place in Plymouth, NH on the campus of Plymouth State University. The conference offers a variety of session on specific topics for bands, marching bands, and jazz bands. They also offer two reading sessions so directors may hear and experience new band music.

This is a document that is a resource for creativity and technology for music learning put together by Dr. William Bauer for the FETC in Orlando, Florida on January 31, 2014. This page is an excellent resource to develop ideas for learning with technology in the classroom. Many of the programs are free, easy to use and applicable to many educational ideas.  

Musical Creativity in the Cloud is a Google Doc by Dr. William I. Bauer. It is a list of resources to integrate technology into the music classroom and encourage creative thinking. Each item on the list will facilitate organization, creativity, or music learning. Dr. Bauer comprised a list of fifty resources to integrate technology into the music classroom including notation software, cloud-based libraries, media players, and organizational tools.

Music Theory is a topic that can often be confusing when beginning to learn.  This website does a great job of breaking down the elements of music theory for anyone who is trying to gain deeper understanding of Music Theory.

This website is great for quick music theory handouts for students. It contains PDF worksheets to print and share with students. Excellent free resource!

Evan Tobias is an assistant professor at ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts School of Music. His blog focuses on contemporary issues, technology and showcasing different perspectives. This is an excellent resource to stay current and informed with new information about music. Tobias is very philosophical, less practical for classroom application, but important for professional development purposes.
