There are also resources for students including songs, practice videos, and lessons. Popular music is the main focus as well as song writing.

This is the video "Modern Electric Bass" in which the famous bassist, Jaco Pastorius, explains his views to approaching not only the bass but music. He explains the importance of musicians approaching music in a melodic fashion and the importance of working hard to become proficient. He further explains the importance of developing both listening and reading skills, improvisation, and gives demonstrations of each concept.

Evan Tobias is an assistant professor at ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts School of Music. His blog focuses on contemporary issues, technology and showcasing different perspectives. This is an excellent resource to stay current and informed with new information about music. Tobias is very philosophical, less practical for classroom application, but important for professional development purposes.

This is a great interactive and multimedia resource for teachers from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's website.  The beta Digital Classroom begins with the 1950s.  Different artists are highlighted from the 1950s, each with a bio, authentic performance video, "why it matters" section and lesson objectives that highlight important musical aspects of the artist.

This website offers a multitude of resources designed for music-making. This specific organization is devoted to offering musical programs to students who are in the 80% of the population that are not involved in performing ensembles. It offers curriculum, lesson plans, and interactive activities for guitar, piano, drums, bass, ukulele, composition, voice and more. There are free PDF songbooks and lesson plans that are connected to the program, that are extremely helpful towards teacher and student interest. The best part of the program is that the majority of the music is examples that students know already - a lot of pop, rock, and even hip-hop. It connects the bridge between traditional musical concepts with music of today.

Little Kids Rock has a multitude of resources for creating a modern band in your classroom. There are songs loaded on the website that include tab for ukulele, guitar, and bass. There are also drum set patterns included. This website serves to expose educators and students modern band and provides lesson plans to go along with the popular songs. Specific Musical Content: This webpage contains the chord progressions of over 5,000 songs. The original song can be played as well as just the chord progression on a piano. Each song can be transposed into different keys and modes while preserving sonic relationships. Theory Tab also can display the chords being played on a piano keyboard or a Guitar Fretboard. Other Information: This could be a great resource for any composition units, as well as for directors looking to incorporate popular music, or arrange popular tunes for their ensembles.
