"According to research firm Gartner, by 2017 the CMO will spend more money on information technology than the CIO. It's a startling statement, but based on the rapid rise in data and analytics, is a means to better target and engage consumers."
"Sprint has been forced to build a new 4G LTE network after betting its 4G strategy on WiMax and Clearwire (NSDQ: CLWR), and also had to pay dearly in order to carry the iPhone 4S on its network for the first time in October."
In a move to increase sales in South Korea, donut and coffee retailer Dunkin' Donuts is installing an ingenious technology into the buses in Seoul that will release coffee aroma into the air each time the Dunkin' Donuts radio jingle is being played. The technology uses a spray that they call "Flavor Radio" and it looks similar to other conventional sprayers used in homes. And the strategy seemed to work. The company said that since the campaign launched several months ago, they saw a 16 percent increase in visitors at Dunkin' Donuts shops near bus stops.
Trendy Millennials in Singapore have long shopped for inexpensive clothing and accessories on local fashion blogs, the most popular of which achieve cult status among their largely female audience. Several of these have built a physical presence, including Modparade, which opened in the youthful Haji Lane shopping area, and MDSCollections, which has three mall stores and a fourth on its way. As The Business of Fashion recently noted, "It seems clear that pure-play e-tailers will increasingly need to embrace multi-channel strategies."
"News and magazine apps are a segment where the momentum is likely to shift towards the Web within the next two to three years," noted senior analyst Aapo Markkanen. "Since news and media content already account for a large share of smartphone usage and are likely to play an even bigger role in later adopters' usage, changes in this segment alone will make subscribers on average download fewer native apps."
The next wave of smartphone owners in mature markets like the U.S., Western Europe and Asia will download fewer apps than the first one-third of mobile consumers who bought smartphones, according to the report on mobile app storefronts. At the same time, ABI expects that in the games and utilities categories, the mobile Web will probably never catch up with native apps, due to the difficulty in matching the user experience.
ABI's outlook on the future of apps appears at odds with a separate report released Tuesday by Strategy Analytics, which maintains that the emergence of HTML5 won't put much of a dent in the app economy. Instead, it predicts the Web programming language will lead to the spread of hybrid apps that combine HTML5 with native APIs (application programming interface) to harness the best of native and open standards.
Goal: The Wild Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to protecting the wilderness, started the Forever Wild Rhino Protection initiative to save Rhinos from extinction due to hunting in Asia.
Problem: Like all non-profits they had no money to create awareness and get support.
Insight: People don't always pay attention to these types of serious causes, but they sure seem to have a lot of time to watch silly viral videos on the internet.
Strategy: Find a way to have the message integrated into these silly viral videos... for free.
Solution: Download the top trending viral videos from YouTube, edit part of the video to include messaging about their initiative, re-upload the video with the same exact title as the original and call it YouTube Interventions.
"The amount of data we can collect from digital interactions by consumers is staggering, and making sense of it can seem daunting. This needn't be, though. You simply have to know which data are most relevant and how best to use them.
With that in mind, here's a quick primer on how to use data to drive your digital strategy."
burberry's strategy:
The flagship, by Burberry's description, has seamlessly integrated technology throughout. Full-length screens wrap the store, transitioning between audio-visual content displays, live-streaming hubs and and mirrors. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) chips have been attached to certain clothes and accessories so that when a customer approaches one of the screens in a fitting room, specific content - say, information about a bag's stitching and craftsmanship, or a video showing how a skirt was worn on the catwalk - will appear.
