Google+ Claims 50 Million Users Every Day -- for 'Enhanced Products' - 0 views

  •
Google's tally of activity on "Google Plus-enhanced products," by contrast, suggests frequent activity on the network by at least 50 million people. But it includes activity on YouTube, the Android Marketplace and the Google search engine. Even if you don't have Google+, you probably spend a significant amount of time on these sites. In The Times article, Google defends its statistic by saying time spent on Google+ isn't reflective of how much the network is being used. Gundotra described the social network as "a social blanket that envelopes the entire Google experience."

Google Study Reveals Web Influencing Smartphone Sales | ClickZ - 0 views

  •
"Google's "Smartphone Launch Predictor" study found that 52 percent of purchase-related searches occur before a smartphone is launched. According to Google, the key to a successful smartphone launch is getting ahead of the release and marketing early. "One of the biggest factors is getting early buzz. Getting early buzz is key [for a successful smartphone launch]," Google Industry Director for Tech Kyle Keogh told ClickZ. The study found that the earlier a firm markets a smartphone the more likely they are to succeed in sales. According to Google, an extra 1,000 news stories put in place weeks before a launch can lead to a 9 percent spike in smartphone sales. Google's research discovered that users tend to do general product searches in the week during launch. After launch, it was discovered that consumers dig deep and search for key specifications on a device. Video is also becoming a key research tool for consumers shopping for a smartphone. According to the study, video views for smartphones increased 60 percent this year. Google says that if a smartphone gets over 1 million video views during launch week it will likely sell over 1.3 million units."

Election Embeds: Facebook, Google Got Cozy With Campaigns | Digital - Advertising Age - 0 views

  •
"Big brands and agencies are used to lots of attention from Facebook and Google, so it's no surprise the presidential campaigns, with their vast ad budgets, got some, too. But as the election fades, Ad Age has learned more about just how closely the two largest sellers of digital advertising worked with the campaigns, even sending employees to work onsite at campaign offices and their respective digital consultancies. "Google staffers were hand-selected by Google to sit in our office and help us," confirmed Zac Moffatt, digital director for Mitt Romney's campaign. Multiple people who worked closely with the Barack Obama campaign did not respond to requests for interviews."

Project Glass Is The Future Of Google | TechCrunch - 0 views

  • Here’s what you won’t see in Glass: advertising. Brin stated pretty vehemently that they have no plans to integrate advertising into Glass and that the only plan is to simply sell the hardware, which will be “significantly” cheaper than the $1,500 Explorer Editions that were announced today. The Glass team says they’re focused on the quality of the experience and not making it as cheap as possible. (Thank gawd.) Core Google apps like Gmail and Plus (Hangouts) are being tested now along with Android apps. What isn’t clear is whether or not the Android and Google apps teams are working with the team at Glass and vice versa.

First Party Using Google+ Proves out "Party Mode" - 0 views

  • According to the event page, 2,367 of the 6,000 I/O attendees actually checked in using the new version of Google+, then having the option to turn on party mode, which shares all of their photos on a public stream. The event was public because Google turned it into an “On Air” event. A lot of folks showed up to see Train and Paul Oakenfold perform, and it seems like quite a few of them shared photos to the event page. It’s not known how long the party kept up the 8K photos per hour, but it’s impressive none the less. I have however noticed that a lot of photos not taken at the event made its way to the stream. I’m not sure if that’s a bug, or if that’s a bi-product of the event being “On Air.” According to the slideshow from the event, 13,345 photos were shared in total: You’ll see the photos on the page sorted by popularity, which includes +1′s and comments. It’s not surprising that the most popular picture if of Gundotra and Sergey Brin, sporting the Glass.

Chrome is coming to augmented reality and Google Daydream | TechCrunch - 0 views

  •
"The big highlight is that Google will be building a version of Chrome especially for use inside virtual reality. The browser will be coming later this year. Oculus launched a browser for the Gear VR in its most recent big software update, though Daydream's option seems to take advantage of some of the strengths of Chrome, like bookmarks and history. The company has already brought WebVR to mobile and desktop Chrome. They showed off WebVR Experiments last month to bring bite-size experiences to VR on Daydream and Cardboard. Google gave some light details on bringing Chrome to augmented reality situations, as well, so that users can bring their outside world into the browser. This will allow people shopping for a coffee table on Amazon's mobile app to scan their room and see what the right size would be. The update will be launching today on an experimental build of Chromium."
