She found some common themes in the keynotes about privacy, vulnerability, and trust in open learning environments on the learner level. From Jonathan she says: he talked about the difference between the image and the photograph and how there is a paradigm shift because the image is breaking away from the photograph. Photographs are about evidence, images about experience. Laura's talk was about the inequality on a global scale and is a life or death issue and it is a challenge to address inequality in new online landscapes. Jenny ends the blog with: Jonathan's focus on vulnerability and trying to see the image clearly will inform issues of inequality and Laura's focus on inequality will inform Jonathan's concerns about privacy, trust, and vulnerability.

He mentions the importance of "trusted curators" and how it is up to us to decide how to invest our time. Implications for WLS: building dashboards, prioritizing, culling, controlling the incoming flow are all important skills to master for online work. We build on old concepts--dashboard for online focus, leading online--and become trusted curators too to provoke curious second and third thoughts leading to conversions on our site. Excerpt: One option is to read incisively, curate, edit, choose your sources carefully. Limit the inbound to what's important, not what's shiny or urgent or silly. "As the largest cross-disciplinary organization representing women in STEM, mentoring is a topic we've been addressing for decades. Donna J. Dean, PhD, past AWIS President and Fellow, has authored a book on mentoring women in STEM. (Which everyone in STEM should read. Men can definitely gain insight from Donna's wisdom, too.) So, what is the difference between mentoring, coaching, advising and supervising? Donna sums it up this way: A mentor is a wise and trusted person who guides, protects, and promotes the protégé's (mentee's) career. An advisor is someone who offers advice, from a perspective of wisdom or authority. A coach helps with specific skill and ability development, often on a fee basis.   • Most organizations are playing with all these new digital technologies and not putting in place structures to support knowledge artisans. But all these levels of hierarchy and control processes, based on a systemic lack of trust, will be overwhelmed by the resulting complexity of a hyper-connected economy. Overarching knowledge work principles have to be first established. An adult-to-adult relationship model like wirearchy is one example; “a dynamic two-way flow of power and authority based on knowledge, trust, credibility and a focus on results, enabled by interconnected people and technology.” Complex environments are the new normal.
