This document demostrates Skinner's view of learning. I think is an essential reading for learners of learning..:) Certain basic assumptions, essential to any scientific activity, are sometimes called theories. That nature is orderly rather than capricious is an example. Certain statements are also theories simply to the extent that they are not yet facts. A scientist may guess at the result of an experiment before the experiment is carried out.

Adopting a design-based research methodology, this study used digital video technology to support reflective tasks for language learning in multimedia environments. The emphasis was on the improvement of oral communication skills. The reflective tasks used in this study were exposed to iterative design process and the whole research process was driven by two underlying learning theories. This iterative and theory driven design reflects the nature of DBR well.

Is there ant iteration in the design here? Or is it the implementation of three different courses?

Hocam, students' reflective practice happened in different formats each year. To be more specific, task-completion tools and task-completion formats were exposed to an iterative design. Each year a different tool and a format were implemented and the reflection by the students progressed in an iterative way though it was conducted with different classes. For example, in 2006, students of Class 1 reviewed their presentations in a multimedia player and reflected on it via a word-processing program. In 2008, YouTube was used for their presentations and they had a collaborative reflective task after being paired with each other. So, a different design was applied for each year but in an iterative fashion.

The video is generally about what is situated learning theory, how it is occurred, what is the Community of Practice and its structural elements. In the video, it is explained that Lave and Wenger observed different populations that learning takes place in social situations with other people thus the situated learning theory was born.

"Many of the ways we have of talking about learning and education are based on the assumption that learning is something that individuals do". This is a really nice article that outlines the theory and its applications and some issues related to situated learning theory are pointed out.

I liked this article because the figüre illustrating Maslow's hierarchy of needs was illustrative. The article differentiates btw mastery and performance goals. It emphasizes self efficacy and Weiner's Attribution theory and finally has a different figure for flow.

This animated video explains Mihaly CSIKSZENTMIHALYI's Flow Theory. So, how much of your time do you feel in the apathy part of the graph?

I haven't read this book before, but as I understand from the book review, it worth to be read. I suggest you to watch this review for understanding the relationship between challenge and skill better.

This is a very short article on TPACK by its founders which explain the theory and its basic concepts and implications.

Tihs video presents a brief explanation of Cognitive load theory that we mentioned in last week. I hope you like it.

I liked the definition of expertise as "acquisition of schemas" or mental structure. We talked about these in our discussion through organization of knowledge and chunking.

I really like the the part of implications for teachers. It make flow theory more clearer for me.

I think this is a good article by Knud Illeris to read as an introduction or brief view towards contemporary learning theories.

Thanks sharing this Burcu. Knut Illeris is one of the scholars who writes on particularly on adult learning. I will bring one of his recent books to the class.

She is the author or co-author of eight textbooks and an edited research handbook in learning and instruction, and has published numerous articles in professional journals on learning and instruction theory. One of her books is Psychology of Learning for Instruction which also exists in our syllabus.

This is a website explaining ACT-R theory with examples. You can reach software and tutorials and find more references.
