This article was written two years ago and describes how the hotel industry is getting a technological makeover. It argues that this has been shaped by Millennials in order to secure customer loyalty and business by providing quality, value, promptness, responsiveness, and flexibility through technology. It continues to mention five technologies that customers seek: service automation, digital signage, personalized concierge, technology as a luxury, and mobile device support. An example is a mobile app that can gather data from the user to ensure that their preferences are met or to simply allow the guest to chat with an associate. The data gathered from user profiles can be used for strategic planning or quick decisions as a global corporation or a local hotel. Regardless of when or how any data will be used, the demand from guests to be constantly connected from pre-planning stages and beyond is evident. It poses interesting questions as to how technology will continue to develop in the next two years.

Like Stephanie Izard's Goatceries. So smart to engage in a new way
  • As best as you can, try to figure out who your audience is. I knew that I had to aim at folks who were looking at quarantine as a time to explore their passions. My classes are quite reasonably priced, but they, and the wines that accompany them, are definitely more expensive than many wine drinkers would be interested in, and I'm fine with that. I feel very confident that I can deliver a class experience that makes people feel very good about the $25-$35 they've spent on a 90 minute class.”

With restaurants having to go dark to most of their customers, it has become essential to reinvent and find a way to connect through online events. Using newer technologies like Zoom, Tock, and other social media platforms, closed restaurants and bars can find a way to connect and engage their customers, and sometimes even find a profit in it. In this article, we follow the path of a wine bar owner who closed his doors early on. He then moved to zoom classes for his servers, and decided to tailor them to his consumers. Now, he offers virtual tasting experiences that are followed up with the options to buy those wines directly from his bar. He also has done classes for 25-35 that engage his consumers in a positive experience. I've seen this happen a lot lately with successful pivots in restaurants. Girl and The Goat did this with goatceries, where she has created multi-day groceries that are partially prepared that guests can pick up and then follow her online cooking class directions. I've also seen this with Christina Tosi as she has started online baking classes through Instagram. If restaurants can continue this through the pandemic, it might offer another new option for revenue in the future.

Smart Hotel Room; What Are the Benefits for Hotel Owners and Guests - 1 views

  • 5 Benefits of Smart Hotel Rooms
  • 1. Greater Personalisation
  • 2. Improved Sustainability
  • ...15 more annotations...
  • 5. Faster and More Reliable Repairs
  • 3. Enhanced Customer Experience
  • 4. Remote Room Controls
  • A smart hotel room is a room that makes use of ‘smart’ electronic devices, powered by the Internet of Things (IoT).
  • another.
    • kmill139

This is such a relevant topic in our society today. Having the ability to wireless and effectively transfer data between devices means an easier and stress-free experience.
  • Perhaps the single most important reason is because it can improve the actual experience of staying in a hotel, by enhancing the convenience aspect.
    • kmill139

I personally have had a better experience at a hotel when there is technology present, so I can see how this is a thing.
  • This internet connectivity and communication capability allows devices to find information from the internet, and to interact with other devices in the nearby vicinity.
  • With that being said, smart hotel solutions has grown in popularity for other reasons, such as its ability to reduce some of the costs associated with running a hotel.
  • One of the main benefits of a smart hotel room is the ability to offer guests a greater level of personalisation.
    • kmill139

This is a big thing. Guest like to have that "home-away-from-home" experience. Things like changing the temperature of the room, light setting, and even the water temperature can make the guest enjoy their experience more.
  • For hotel management, one of the biggest advantages of creating a smart hotel is the reduced costs that are often associated with the concept. This is primarily due to improvements to sustainability and energy efficiency within the hotel rooms, with certain devices only being used when they are actually needed.
  • Perhaps the most immediately obvious benefit of a smart hotel room is the improvement it can deliver in terms of the customer experience. A smart speaker, such as that provided through the Alexa for Hospitality service, assists with this by making it possible for TVs, lights, heating and other devices to be controlled through voice commands.
  • Another benefit of smart hotel rooms and the Internet of Things is the ability for hotel staff to access a variety of room controls from a remote location. This is especially useful when it comes to getting a hotel room ready for a new guest, improving the level of comfort they are greeted with upon checking in.
  • e advantage that is sometimes overlooked when it comes to smart rooms is the improved ability to anticipate technical issues with devices and make repairs swiftly. This allows hotels to intervene at the most timely possible moment, avoiding situations where the need for repairs hinders the customer experience.
  • While a growing number of owners are willing to embrace the idea of smart hotel rooms, many are unsure of how to go about actually implementing smart hotel systems. To help out, in the article “7 Ways to Transform a Hotel Room Into a Smart Room” you will find seven ways to transform a hotel room into a smart room.
  • Video: Example of a smart hotel room
    • kmill139

Great video to see everything in a smart room.
  •
This article first introduced us to the definition of smart hotel rooms, and then explained the importance of smart room technology. From a customer perspective, smart hotel rooms can provide guests with a higher level of personalized service and enhance the customer experience. From an environmental point of view, smart hotel rooms are conducive to sustainable development. The consumption of lighting or heating in the room can be adjusted according to actual needs, which means that energy waste can be reduced. From the perspective of hotel management, smart hotel technology enables the front desk to remotely manage the room, improves management efficiency, and monitors the operation of equipment in the room through the Internet to achieve faster repairs.

Top 15 Advantages and Disadvantages of Social Media Marketing - 0 views

  • But just like the two sides of coins, social media also has its two sides; positive and negative. Every marketing strategy to be applied needs proper research and planning to make it effective and worthwhile in social media. Social media marketing has become a core element of success in marketing. It will only prove successful when used properly and efficiently.
  • 1. Reach Your Target Audience Many businesses are using social media as a marketing platform for their business to reach a large number of audiences to increase the demand for the products and expand the range of services.
  • By keeping an eye on the engagement on the posts, customer reviews, and followers, you get a better idea about the customer
  • ...12 more annotations...
  • 2. Directly Connect With Your Audience A direct connection with your audience is possible with the help of social media. You can grow followers of your social media accounts, and finally, you can collect the data about user behavior, their likes, and dislikes, etc
  • It helps to know about your customers so that you can provide them better services.
  • 3. Create Organic Content One of the major advantages of social media is businesses can post organic content without paying a penny. It is very helpful for your company to build connections with people.
  • Build Your Brand
  • When people start knowing your brand, it helps in the creation of brand loyalty and recognition. Social media helps in building brand loyalty, which in turn provokes customers to buy the brand which they are familiar with.
  • 1. Negative Reviews Social media is used as a platform to share the content and experience they have gone through, be it a positive experience or negative experience. If someone is not satisfied with your business, then it gives them a chance to share the negative experience with others, which can definitely become a hindrance in the path of success of your business.
  • 2. Embarrassment Social media is a medium where it takes only a few seconds for your posts to become viral. You should always be careful before posting your content on social media. Check many times before posting it so that you don’t have to face any sort of embarrassment.
  • 3. Time Consuming Campaigns Social media is one of the most exciting and interesting platforms to create and recreate the content, to post photos, videos, and to engage the audience with it. But, the main disadvantage is that creating and running social media campaigns is a time-consuming process.
  • If you don’t spend enough time on this because you lack resources, capital, and people, then definitely, you will end up leading to a problem where your social media marketing campaign will suffer losses.
  • . Results Come Late
  • You have to continuously post new content related to your campaign to achieve success. The result of social media marketing campaigns will take time to determine results. Never expect immediate results, and you have to wait for it patiently for a few weeks or even months to get success.
  • . Need to Stay Engaged and Active It is also one of the disadvantages of social media that you need to stay engaged and active every time you monitor your marketing campaign. Social media is constantly changing, so you need to be up-to-date else you will lack behind.
  •
Social media can both positively and negatively affect companies. Companies need to dedicate time and resources into creating content to help build brand recognition and fan loyalty. Content needs to feel organic, to help drive more traffic and brand loyal and awareness. With the many upsides to social media marketing, comes some disadvantages. Posting content allows for negative feedback from consumers. Companies should work on replying back with positive solutions to customers as other potential clients will also see these and reconsider using your brand.

Global distribution systems work by connecting travel companies (airlines, car rentals, cruise lines) to travel agencies (online or human) who then connect with the interested traveler. By this chain, the travel agent is able to offer real time availability from the companies to the traveller. The benefits of this system are the ability to deliver tons of information direct from the relevant companies, it is convenient for those that use them and easy to track travelling trends and interests. To me, it works like a mass marketing strategy. The content is generated by the owners and instead of enlisting their own man power, they utilize the efficiency and convenience of remote technology to mass distribute. The intended consumer receives the information without ever having to think where it's coming from, but inevitably trusts its reliability. The productivity of this system is something that those in the hospitality industry cannot ignore because this represents moments of the first interaction between the interested consumer and your operation. In order for the information to reach them in a convenient medium. In summary, GDS's help information get from the travel company to the consumer everyday in real time via global networks.

Global Distribution Systems (GDS) are largely responsible for the expansion of the travel industry. They provide the foundation for most internet-based travel services offered globally, and they link the providers of travel services in real-time. To make the travel business more complex and informatics, the GDS system provides global data, pricing, inventory, offers, and real-time availability of flights, hotel rooms, car rentals, and even bus tickets. GDS enables travel agencies and their customers to access travel information, purchase and compare options for reservations, and schedule trips. One of the most essential tools for the travel industry is the GDS system. Global Distribution Systems are server-hosted web platforms that offer worldwide discounts on the booking of travel-related goods like airfares. Amadeus, Sabre, and Travelport are the three main GDSs in the market, and they are connected to more than 650,000 travel agents. Travel agencies depend on GDS's assistance to maximize their own profits because GDS is a direct seller of airline tickets. To increase their revenues and their ability to offer tickets to customers, travel agencies enter into an agreement with GDS and gain access to a listing of fares.

However, technology like KDS to improve the back of house operations or air purification technologies are more behind the scenes type of technologies that I have not given much thought so I found this article interesting.

AI in the hospitality industry: Benefits, applications, and use cases - 1 views

  • Science-fiction once claimed that humans would one day live together with robots who would make our lives easier.
  • In recent years, AI is becoming increasingly vital in the hospitality industry owing to its capacity to do traditionally human tasks at any time of day. This might save hoteliers a lot of money, minimize human mistakes, and allow them to provide better service.
  • Customer service is especially important in the travel sector, as hotels often live or die depending on how they treat their clients. The options for improving this element using AI are nearly limitless, ranging from improved personalization to targeted recommendations.
  • ...13 more annotations...
  • The introduction of AI has drastically altered hotel operations. The tremendous number of jobs that front-desk employees are expected to handle demonstrates how different the situation would be without artificial intelligence.
  • A phone system with AI can intelligently route calls. Basic queries can be answered by chatbots on the internet. Remote check-in systems that are AI-connected can allow customers to check into their rooms using a smartphone app without ever having to stop at the front desk
  • To use the data you have on your hotel’s behalf, you must first sort, organize, cleanse, parse, and transform it into something that humans can understand. To put it another way, you must find a means to delete inaccurate or duplicated data, arrange it so that it makes sense, and then present it in a human-readable style, such as charts and graphs.
  • AI, on the other hand, enables personalization on a far deeper level, affecting the very core of the guest experience. It also helps you save time, money, and effort by enhancing efficiency.
  • For example, an AI chatbot linked to your Facebook Messenger can answer queries from visitors and collect basic information to save in your database. This information can then be utilized to tailor future interactions with the guest. You might design special offerings that cater to their specific needs, such as child-friendly accommodations, all-inclusive stays, or experiences that include a hotel room as well as tickets to nearby events or shows.
  • AI may assist you in ensuring that you get it right while also increasing efficiency and accuracy. You won’t have to look very hard to find proof of this. You almost certainly employ both a property management system (PMS) and a point of sale (POS) system. Both of these use AI to assist you to handle bookings, offering add-ons, and adding them to customers’ bills, among other things.
  • Artificial intelligence embedded in the software you use every day, such as your PMS and POS, allows for greater efficiency, a stronger relationship with your visitors, and, ultimately, greater hotel success.
  • Hilton Hotels’ First Robot Concierge, Meet Connie.
  • AI chatbots, for example, have been popular on social media platforms to allow customers to ask questions and receive near-instant responses, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Hotels benefit from this because it allows them to achieve response speeds that are nearly difficult to achieve through human-to-human interaction.
  • Predict passenger flow using predictive analytics and machine learning to avoid airport overcrowding.Based on the current operational state, as well as prior data and patterns, machine learning can be used to assess the probability of delayed departures.By studying typical baggage mishandling and breaking points, conditions, and settings, developers can leverage machine learning skills construct a virtual assistant to proactively track baggage.
  • AI and machine learning can be used to incorporate real-time feedback into workflows. This can help assess whether or not a guest is happy with their room.
  • RPA is capable of automating dull and repetitive operations. AI is capable of detecting demand patterns, forecasting corresponding prices, and even calculating human resource requirements.
  • Hospitality businesses can use AI and machine learning to determine which aspects of their loyalty program appeal to clients and which are deal breakers. By examining emotional activity, sentiment analysis (which uses Natural Language Processing) can help organizations comprehend positive, negative, and neutral viewpoints.
  •
This article details the increasing and already abundant role that AI technologies are playing in the day-to-day operations of hospitality companies. It goes into depth about how these advancements are using analytical data to provide a better guest experience while also taking information from outside sources to focus on aspects of the operation that need improvement or things that are being well received. The process of AI implementation has also allowed for the customization of guest experience allowing guests to be catered to 24/7 offering insights and calculated suggestions.
