  • Aptech Computer Systems, a provider of hospitality software and enterprise financial accounting, has developed an advanced hospitality financial accounting system called the Aptech Next Generation Accounting Solution.
  • “This solution will lift hotel operations into the next decade of financial accounting,” says Cam Troutman, vice president of Aptech
  • The system is Web-based and developed in Microsoft’s VB.NET technology that leverages a Structured Query Language (SQL) database
  • Aptech developed its Execuvue Business Intelligence system in 1997. The system is now used by La Quinta Inns & Suites, Extended Stay Hotels, Hershey Entertainment, Dolce International, Concord Hospitality Enterprises Co., Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Benchmark Hospitality and Highpointe Hotel Corp.
  •

As the title indicates, this article briefly discusses the release of a web-based, financial accounting system specifically targeting the hospitality industry. Created by Aptech, the Next Generation Accounting Solution system is bound to reduce payroll costs and drastically minimize the manual workload put into financial accounting. Thanks to this system, users will be able to monitor their daily numbers more efficiently and access data at any time from any computer with Internet access. Another advantage of the ANGAS system is that it fully supports sole proprietorships as well as corporations. In other words, hotel companies of different sizes should be able to utilize this web-based accounting tool. In summary, this article confirms how the use of cloud-based applications has allowed companies in the hospitality industry to simultaneously keep operating costs down and maximize their productivity levels.
  •
Aptech Computer Systems, a provider of hospitality software and enterprise financial accounting, has developed a system that has the ability to help a hotel enterprise or the common Innkeeper. The is system is Web-based and was developed by the company Microsoft. The Company Ap tech has been around for 40 years and have been hotels with their performance management tools. Originally, they started working on interstate motel with their technology and from then on have been a huge success. I am sure people will be very sceptical when using this product because it is Web-based, however it does seem to be much easier to use and if something were to happen you have access to 24/7 customer service. For a business just starting out, this seems like a perfect tool.
  •
An advanced hospitality financial accounting system is launched by Aptech Computer Systems, which is a hospitality software and financial accounting company. The system is based on internet and can be used by both individual and multi-property hotel companies. The president of the company thinks that with the help of internet, hospitality staff can access to the tools more easily. Also, he has positive attitude towards using new technology by more hotels. There is also an example for the technology's expanding role in hospitality industry. Smith Travel sent its research reports from two to three weeks a time to once a day. I think a good accounting system is very important for a hotel. In the globalized world, many hotels expand themselves in the world, and this system can bring convenience to multi-property hotels.

Hotel operators step up their green initiatives - Travel Weekly - 0 views

  • Our desert surroundings require that we be strong stewards of natural resources, especially water," Dumont said.
  • LEED is an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, the council's rating system for measuring the effectiveness of environmentally efficient buildings. LEED ranks buildings on a 100-point scale measuring energy and atmosphere, the sustainability of a site, efficient use of water and the use of environmentally responsible materials and resources in the building's construction and maintenance. It also awards six points for innovative design and four points for embracing regional priorities in products and services. The resulting levels are Certified (40 to 49 points), Silver (50 to 59 points), Gold (60 to 79 points) and the greenest category, Platinum (80 points or more).

  • MGM Resorts has cut its electricity usage by an amount that could power more than 12,000 homes.
  • Caesars Entertainment (formerly Harrah's Entertainment) set a goal of cutting its carbon emissions by 10% between 2007 and 2013. So far, the Las Vegas-based company has replaced 65,000 halogen light bulbs with LED bulbs, which use about 90% less electricity, and has recycled more than 60,000 pounds of soap for Clean the World, a nonprofit that sanitizes the soap and sends it to low-income areas of the U.S.

  • "We have had the Travelocity Green Hotel program since 2008 and noticed increasing demand and supply of green hotels," said Leilani Latimer, director of sustainability initiatives at Sabre. "Additionally, there is increasing interest on the corporate side as more and more businesses are integrating their overarching sustainability programs into their managed travel programs and looking for significant ways to promote sustainable procurement practices
  • "It's very difficult for hotels to be truly green by their nature," said Bjorn Hanson, divisional dean of New York University's school of tourism and hospitality management. Travel Weekly takes a look at hotels taking real initiatives to their commitment to going green, especially in Sin City. Hotel groups are looking not to save money through transparent initiatives asking guests to simply reuse their towels, rather the article looks at "hotel owner-developers to invest in systems that cut energy usage, save water, and reduce waste". It seems in addition to other environmentally conscious west coast cities, Vegas has set a standard by setting goals for increased recycling, decreased energy consumption, switching over to LED bulbs, composting food waste, reducing overall carbon footprint and emissions. In light of continuing green development, Sabre Holdings has launched an Eco-Certified Hotel Program taking the lead out of the other four major GDS's to tip their hat to eco-friendly hotels. As travelers, GDS's, hotels, travel websites, and developers alike place greater emphasis on the preference for environmentally conscious lodgings, the more likely the industry is going to continue adopting these measures.

Hotels are becoming more green world wide. MGM hotels is on board with a green initiative. Hotels electricity and water add up because they have to cool a building , clean and maintain the hotel. IT costs about 800 per room annually in electricity and water costs. MGM hotels reduced the electrivity they use which can help power 12, 000 houses. HOtels are also trying to reduce its carbon emissions. Although as the article states " its very difficult fot hotels to be trully green by their nature" every little bit helps.

To make sure that all of our positive, local efforts add up to make kind of a major global impact.

In this article, Hyatt has launched a global sustainability program. And also Hyatt has green teams and employee volunteers to do efforts on the sustainability.  When talked about the progress of the sustainability program, Hyatt said they had three steps: First, Hyatt Thrive is supported by 80,000 associates in over 450 hotels in the world, which will give a lot to help. Second, this global framework has a singular goal to help thrive. Third and finally, Hyatt is very committed to measuring and tracking the progress. They were very accountable. I think more hotels need to develop a sustainability program like Hyatt to help the world go green.
  •
This is a great article and not to mention an amazing initiative. A program that is fueled by it's associates will certainly have a positive impact on the community and a lasting effect.

More foreign brands use China's Taobao for e-commerce | IT News - 1 views

  • We are launching on Taobao to expand our reach to Chinese consumers given Taobao is the most trafficked e-commerce site in China,"
  • "(Taobao) allows us to reach millions of consumers in a very direct way, many of whom we could have difficulty reaching through brick-and-mortar storefronts,
  • Taobao, which started as a consumer-to-consumer platform, rose to the top of the China's online retail market after beating out e-commerce rivals like eBay in the country.
  •
This article showed more foreign brands like Adidas and Gap are expanding their reach into China's market by tapping the user base of the country's largest online retailer Taobao.com for e-commerce. A majority of domestic and well-known international brands have set up their own online stores on Taobao Mall for brand expanding and sales. Presence on Taobao Mall is complementary to their own e-commerce site, which is doing well, along with their stores. Through Taobao, international brands can reach millions of customers in a very direct way and Chinese customers are increasingly turning to the internet to do their shopping. But there are challenges with opportunities. They have to fight with counterfeit goods. Counterfeit goods are low price in Chinese e-commerce market. Taobao also launched actions to penalize selling counterfeit goods. In a word, e-commerce in China is not mature, it has a long way to be improved.

Ebookers launches mobile-focused rewards programme - Travolution.co.uk - 0 views

  • The company claims to be the first online travel agent that will allow customers to earn rewards on flights, hotels and packaged trips all in one place, with both business and leisure travellers being rewarded with discounts, bonuses and exclusive added value services.
  • Company research identified a continued lack of loyalty in the industry as 69% of consumers say they will visit more websites to find the right price and will use more comparison sites (41%) in the next 12 months than ever before to plan their holiday.
  • Ebookers spokesperson Rob Define said “Following extensive research to identify exactly what it is our customers are looking for in a rewards programme, we’re extremely excited to launch Bonus+, a programme that will ensure our customers get instant access to rewards, resulting in a little more sizzle, a lot more zing and a few more ‘oh go-on-thens’ out of their holiday.
  •
Ebookers.com has a new rewards program being introduced called Bonus+, with a focus on mobile use. They have done research and developed a program that allows travelers to earn rewards on hotel bookings, packaged trips and flight bookings. Bonus+ offers a membership which has three tiers to their program. If customers reach gold or platinum status, they offer a 24-hr support for hotel bookings and free upgrades at participating hotels. If customers are to book through their mobile app, they receive more discounts on bookings. This concept is very interesting and I'd like to see how much it will effect the status of travel agents. It will be interesting to see how many more companies will try to come out with rewards programs like Bonus+.

M3 Accounting + Analytics Launches M3 Professional Services - 1 views

  • M3PS is structured to offer customized solutions to its customers, from basic accounting functions (such as bank reconciliation and accounts payable) provided on an a la carte basis, to comprehensive management of the full accounting cycle. Outsourcing of these accounting functions will allow M3PS customers to improve margins, increase shareholder value, streamline operations and deliver more focused services to ownership groups. Two major advantages for customers partnering with M3PS will be scalability and talent acquisition. As portfolios change, M3PS will take care of providing service when customers need it, eliminating the scenario of inflexible and non-variable overheads that negatively impact the ROI of a property. By specializing exclusively in hotel accounting, M3PS will have access to top-tier talent in the industry and has two CPAs and multiple MBAs currently on staff. The team will be led by industry veterans with decades of hotel accounting experience.
  •
M3 is a leading provider of accounting and analytic software, business intelligence and operations reporting. The company has been providing accounting assistance to customers for 15 years and has relied heavily on the feedback of their customers to improve their services. As a result of their customers wanting to outsource their accounting functions M3 has developed a customizable software that allows customers to choose from basic accounting functions to a complete accounting cycle depending on their business needs. By using M3PS and outsourcing accounting needs customers will be able to focus more on management functions as well as guest experience. M3PS launched operations on August 1st and since then has expanded its services to over 100 hotels as well as other businesses. M3PS is providing customers with outsourced accounting assistance from a team of CPAs and business professionals that have years of hotel accounting experience. Also, M3PS is saving customers from having to invest a large amount of time and money on IT infrastructure costs.
  •
Where the article I posted emphasizes a total PMS solution, this company focuses primarily on back office functions. This doesn't make it wrong. On the contrary, if the firm is able to conduct all the back office functions and remain integrated with the existing PMS, it could be beneficial. That is of course, if the money being saved by exporting these functions to external CPAs outweighs the costs of keep the functions in-house.

Hospitality Industry Guest Security: Hotels Launch "Radio Frequency Identification Tech... - 0 views

  • One of the latest innovations to be launched in the customer security market within the hospitality industry is non-contact Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. This allows guests to access the hotel and their rooms simply by waving their room card, rather than having to insert it into a lock.
  • The RFID cards can also be extended to lift-systems with cards encoded to allow guest’s access to only the floors that they are entitled.
  • This means that visitors can be rest assured that from the front door to their rooms, their safety is of the utmost concern, which will only enhance the customer experience.
  •
Actually, I don't think RFID is a quite high-end technology in hospitality industry. But using this technology in lifts to limit customers access to certain floors in a new idea. This method can not only enhance the security of the hotel, but also can enhance customers' experience. Because customers may get a sense of safety. But the staffs should be trained to know how to explain to customers and make them get a positive experience.

The article talks about Marriott's strategic endeavors beginning in 2001 with the launch of Avendra to support the company's procurement and hospitality supplies in Central and North America. Furthermore, it launched Marriott International Procurement for the rest of the world due to the fact that such markets are ran differently. It goes on to mention that this has evolved from a centralized and decentralized system to a workable hybrid system. Through this hybrid system, along with data that has been collected 90 years, Marriott is able to improve visibilities, efficiencies, and contracting to ensure hotels are buying the right products. Most importantly, making sure that hotels are capturing the right amount of revenue for rooms being sold.

Conde Nast is a mass media company publishing well known magazines such as Vogue and Conde Nast Traveler. Over the past few years their brands have incorporated more and more events into their repertoire, so I wasn't surprised when I came across this article a few months back. In 2017 they acquired an event concierge platform called Ribyt which has evolved into Concierge.com. Not only is it a guest management software system - it also gives users access to a team of hospitality professionals who can handle project management, staffing, web design, and branding details. I was in the event industry for 5 years prior to starting the graduate program at FIU so I am always excited to see how tech and the events world intersect. I think this software is really innovative and believe it can be a great resource for meeting planners.
  • An expansion of event concierge platform Ribyt—which Condé Nast acquired in March 2017—Concierge.com promises to offer “software with a service.”
  • Translation: In addition to online registration and guest management, users will have full access to a team of seasoned event and hospitality experts.

  • “Ribyt started as a home-grown software for managing guests attending our more complex events—events with multiple levels of invitee and variable itineraries,”
  • The resulting platform offers a variety of features and services. On the software side, it can design and deploy event invites, track activity, manage travel accommodations, generate personalized itineraries for guests, delegate responsibilities to team members, and more. The accompanying service side, though, is what makes the platform unique: Concierge.com's team of professionals can handle everything from overall project management to event-day staffing to website design and branding details.

To me this is a unique selling point - I don't know of any other management programs that includes people who can help you with the the planning aspects of your event.
  • Concierge.com is a turnkey solution for time-strapped event producers
  • Clients can use the self-service software on its own, or tap into the full-service option. Pricing is based on the number of guests being managed.

Again, I like that they've made their service scalable. This takes into consideration that not every client is the same.
  • “Consumers, and as a consequence marketers, are valuing in-person experiences more and more,” says Murphy. “As such, Condé Nast is leveraging its strong heritage in creating unforgettable moments—like the Vanity Fair Oscar Party and Glamour's Women of the Year—to create a full-service offering for clients looking to connect with consumers in powerful ways.”

Some of the features of this new upgrade include direct help on each screen of Maestro's property software and also the ability to perform screen captures. They have real-time help available with 24/7 tech support with chat feature and screen sharing options. The new upgrade also enables users to request support or training online.
